Lindell’s original Twitter account was permanently banned in January 2021 after he continued to perpetuate the baseless claim that Trump won the 2020 election. Lindell rose to become a national political figure during the Donald Trump presidency. Trump has also had his account permanently suspended by Twitter. The former president posted on Truth Social, his own platform, on Thursday. He had not made any appearance on the platform, save for one quick post before the platform was opened to the public in late February. He has said that he has no intention of rejoining Twitter even if his account is reinstated following Elon Musk’s agreement to buy the social media giant for roughly $44 billion.

It’s important to note that there is not a constitutional right for an individual to express themselves however they deem fit in a private facility, like at a place of business or on a social media platform. “I don’t care about the economics at all.” The move by Twitter comes as the company’s policy surrounding what constitutes free speech on the platform has become a hot-button issue. Jeff Bezos no longer owns the top spot. And there’s plenty of speculation over whether Musk, who has described himself as a “ free speech absolutist,” will institute different rules on the platform surrounding “free speech” when and if his offer to buy the company is executed. “My strong intuitive sense is that having a public platform that is maximally trusted and broadly inclusive is extremely important to the future of civilization,” Musk told a crowd at a TED Conference last month.

Shut Down: MyPillow Guy Re-Banned From Twitter After Just Three ... (Gizmodo)

The deplatformed CEO tried to slither his way back onto Twitter following news Elon Musk plans to acquire the company for $44 billion.

Prominent liberal accounts, on the other hand, saw a decrease in new users during the same period. “Please share with everybody you know, let everybody you know, so we can get the word out on Twitter in case they do take it down. Though it’s unclear what exact Tweets pushed him over the edge, Lindell had repeatedly denied the 2020 election results and had gone as far as to ask former President Donald Trump to enforce “martial law,” to keep Joe Biden from assuming office. All those defectors have helped boost the user count of decentralized social network Mastodon, which reportedly saw an uptick of more than 30,000 new users in a single day. But that hasn’t stopped some controversial users from testing the waters. “All those other ones are fake accounts and they’ve been using my name out there, so we started this account,” Lindell reportedly said in his video.
