Before the Warriors open the second round of the playoffs against the Grizzlies, here's everything you need to know about game one.

Following a minute restriction to start the playoffs, Steph Curry is back in the starting lineup for Steve Kerr’s squad. The wait for round two is over. After dropping three of the four contests against the Grizzlies in the regular season, the Warriors will have to find a way to slow down Ja Morant, Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. to punch a ticket to the Western Conference Finals.

Golden State Warriors vs. Memphis Grizzlies Odds, Picks ... (The Action Network)

Action Network contributor Jacob McKenna preview Game 1 of the Warriors vs. Grizzlies series, including his betting pick.

I like the Warriors to win this one outright on the road. The Grizzlies simply can not rely on tremendous fourth quarter scoring in order to win games, especially against this Warriors team. During Round 1, the Timberwolves averaged just 22.7 points per game in the fourth quarter while shooting 35% from the floor, hitting a wall that allowed the Grizzlies to get right back into many games that could have easily been losses. After losing Game 1 on their home court by 13 to Minnesota, Memphis came back and won Game 2 to even the series. Can Golden State make the rest advantage work in their favor, or will being on their home court again propel the Grizzlies to an early 1-0 series lead? Ja Morant leads the team with 7.2 points in the fourth quarter, followed by Brandon Clarke, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson all averaging above five. At just 22 years old, Poole, who has averaged 21 points per game, has shot 54.8% from the floor, and 48.4% from behind the arc. The Dubs currently lead all playoffs teams with a 42.2% 3-point percentage and overall they have shot a tremendous 51.5% from the floor. However, Memphis ultimately prevailed, winning the series 4-2 and showing that its young core is capable of making a postseason push. The total has also increased from 219.5 to 221.5. I was skeptical of the Grizzlies in Round 1, and after seeing their performance in many of their playoff games in that round I am once again hesitant to back them in this series despite being the higher seed. The Golden State Warriors will make a trip to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies in what is the start of Round 2 of the NBA Playoffs on Sunday afternoon.

Since November 18, he has been the NBA's best 3-point shooter at 45.9 per cent, and now he has Memphis' postseason mark with 27 3s in six games to lead this postseason. "Memphis is in a similar boat now gaining that experience, feeling what it's like to be on the road and trailing in the fourth quarter, and they've done a really good job of advancing and getting to this stage and now it continues," Kerr said. Curry scored at least 30 points in his last two games and three of four coming off the bench in all but Game 5 against the Nuggets to protect his tender left foot. Memphis earned the No 8 seed a year ago after beating San Antonio, then going on the road to beat the Warriors in the play-in tournament. "We feel like we are one of the best backcourts in the league as well," Morant said. The dynamic guard leads a young, brash and deep roster that edged out Golden State for the No 2 seed in the Western Conference with the NBA's best record behind only Phoenix.

Golden State didn’t have its full assortment of superstars for those previous encounters and the playoffs might as well have a permanent 415 area code while the young Grizzlies are in uncharted waters. Grizzlies predictions and picks in a single-game parlay, you could win $56.82 on a $10 bet? This is easier to do with Adams out and not patrolling the paint for at least Game 1. Once inside, Morant is a ferocious finisher at the rim or can kick out to shooters on the wing who need him to collapse the defense in order to get that extra space for 3-point attempts. The Grizzlies aren’t a dangerous 3-point shooting team, earning just under 30% of their total points from beyond the arc (fifth lowest). Perhaps the Warriors’ best defensive strategy is on offense. Those veterans have plenty of support in Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins, who can shoulder the scoring load and allow Steve Kerr to find different ways to win. Adams could miss the first two games, which means Warriors forward Draymond Green can play bully against a Memphis frontcourt that runs a little “light” without Adams as the anchor. And behind Wiggins, Gary Payton Jr. is making poppa proud with his defensive prowess, using his speed and tenacity to get inside opponents’ shorts. Second-seeded Memphis did not play its best basketball in the opening round series with Minnesota, which means the ceiling is high for the conference quarterfinals… Home teams are 18-25 ATS so far in the NBA Playoffs while road favorites own a 12-6 ATS mark (67%) heading into Round 2. The Memphis Grizzlies are coming off a rather tight series with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but they have to prepare themselves for the NBA Finals favorite.

Ja has cleared this number just twice in six playoff games, and he’s shooting just 38.6 percent from the field and 20.0 percent from beyond the arc. Ja Morant led the NBA in points in the paint during the regular season, but the points haven’t come as easy with heightened defense in the NBA playoffs. Golden State defeated the Denver Nuggets in five games, and the trio of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole has been a nightmare to defend so far this postseason.

They led the league in offensive rebounds this season and should be able to make that a problem for the Warriors even if Adams misses time. A lot needs to happen for the Grizzlies to win. They keep the momentum rolling from Round 1. The pulse of the Grizzlies is… Both are going to fill the highlight-reel and cause major headaches for the opposing defences. He needs to be the guy who looked like an MVP candidate at times this season. After a gentleman’s sweep of Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in Round 1, they look like championship favourites. They came into the playoffs with conviction as one of the stories of the season after finishing a surprising second in the West, but facing the Minnesota Timberwolves was a bit of a struggle as far as No. 2 vs. The Warriors are back looking like a juggernaut as they push for another shot at Larry OB, while the Grizzlies – whose oldest starter is 26 with Steven Adams out – are inexperienced and still learning how to win in the playoffs. Curry is the greatest shooter of all-time who’s unstoppable from anywhere on the court when he gets rolling. Morant and Curry are two of the game’s most exciting point guards for opposite reasons. After winning the season series 3-1, Memphis will definitely put up a fight.

NBA Odds: Warriors vs. Grizzlies prediction, odds and pick - 5/1/2022 (ClutchPoints)

It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a prediction and pick for Game 1 between the Grizzlies and Warriors.

The Grizzlies finished first in the NBA in fastbreak points this season. This gave the Warriors the best offensive rating in the first round and could pose problems for a young Grizzlies team as well. This Game 1 win should be the difference-maker for them to eventually take the series. In addition, Clarke’s versatility and energy give Memphis a better matchup against the Warriors. They also finished with the sixth-best defensive rating in the NBA during the regular season. Memphis won’t have Steven Adams for Game 1 as he is still in health and safety protocols. Though he cooled off in the last couple games of the Denver series, Poole’s emergence as a legitimate scoring threat next to Curry and Thompson has made the Warriors favorites once again. Despite starting out on the road, the Warriors enter Game 1 as 2.5-point favorites and a lot of that has to do with their experience advantage. The Warriors and Grizzlies begin the next chapter of what is rounding out to be a budding rivalry, one that started in the play-in tournament last season. Memphis has had Golden State’s number since the play-in tournament, so the psychological edge might be there for the young up-and-comers. Meanwhile, Memphis had a challenging opening-round series versus the Minnesota Timberwolves. They found themselves trailing for a majority of the series, but still gutted it out in six games. Golden State dispatched reigning MVP Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in five games.

Brooks has been quieter from deep, but he’s got to this mark in three of the last six games. Bane is shooting 46.0 percent from deep in the playoffs, and took 9.2 attempts per game against the Timberwolves. He’s almost a lock on this number, hitting it in five of the last six games. With Stephen Curry back in the lineup and Jordan Poole emerging as the third “Splash Brother”, look for the Warriors to light up the Grizzlies from deep.

So was Green. On his podcast Sunday night, he was adamant that the play in question wasn’t excessive and that he was trying to hold Clarke up after fouling him. The league suspends a player for one postseason game if he gets four flagrant foul points. Odds are Clarke was referencing Green’s infamous incident in the 2016 NBA Finals, when he was suspended for Game 5 after picking up his fourth flagrant foul “point” of that postseason. Green is optimistic the league will rescind his flagrant 2 after reviewing it. During that half-minute or so that he paraded around the court, Green wanted to hype up his team. But instead of slinking toward the visitors’ locker room in disappointment, he reveled in the animus, encouraging a hostile FedEx Forum crowd to boo him louder and louder.

Warriors vs. Grizzlies: Jordan Poole's enhanced playmaking proves ... (CBSSports.com)

Poole's scoring has been electric in his first postseason, but don't ignore his crucial work as a facilitator.

On this possession from the second quarter of Game 1 against Memphis, Poole knows Andrew Wiggins is going to be open before he even receives the pass, then fires a laser to him all in one motion for an easy bucket. He could have hit Porter flaring out to the 3-point line or skipped it to one of the floor-spacers on the other side of the court. Poole feeds Otto Porter Jr. in the post, fakes like he's going to set a screen for Klay Thompson, then uses his quickness to shake Grizzlies big man Jaren Jackson Jr. as he gets to the corner. Poole collected nine assists on Sunday, six of which came in the second half after Green, their primary half-court facilitator, had been banished to the locker room. Poole was held to just 19 total points in the final two games of the Warriors' first-round series against the Denver Nuggets while going 6-for-20 from the floor and 2-for-9 from 3-point range. In the Warriors' thrilling 117-116 win over Memphis on Sunday, Poole went off for 31 points on 12-of-20 shooting, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range.

Poole returned to the bench for the first time since March 10. GPII moved into the starting lineup and got to guard Morant, which he referred to as “fun” after the game. Looney’s probably not going to start again until next regular season, but he could play a big role in this series, especially when Steven Adams returns. But the bigger news is that the Warriors won despite the poor shooting. Porter continues to struggle with his shot and excel at pretty much everything else. Green was having a pretty excellent game — with the exception of a ton of turnovers — before getting ejected in the second quarter for a Flagrant 2 foul. If they can win, on the road, without Dray, when Steph and Klay shoot 14-for-39 from the field? But Steph was huge down the stretch. Even with his meh shooting numbers, you still trusted him on every possession down the stretch. Would still love to see him cut more off ball, settle for fewer contested long jumpers, and make more of his free throws. Wiggins is settling into a role as someone who does the dirty stuff, as he’s been rebounding, hustling, and playing strong defense lately. He had a few timely buckets, and really stepped up his defense — including blocking a Ja Morant layup with 20 seconds remaining and the Dubs clinging to a one-point lead.

5 takeaways from Warriors' Game 1 Western Conference semifinal ... (NBA.com)

Jordan Poole's continued emergence, Stephen Curry's underrated defense and more help the Warriors steal home-court advantage from the Grizzlies.

Maybe a little extra resolve was what enabled them to outscore Memphis 36-29 in the third quarter, outrebound the Grizzlies 50-47 and come up with those key stops. Look, it’s refreshing not to have every out-of-bounds play getting reviewed, one after another after another, down the stretch of games. Memphis got the ball in the frontcourt with 3.6 seconds left and a great chance to tie or win. The Warriors reset for 26 of them in this one. Memphis had a brutal turnaround, from clinching its series against Minnesota Friday evening and traveling home, to playing the opener as a matinee. Certainly, Golden State’s feelings about the call might have been different had the outcome gone differently. What it didn’t have was the same comeback ability it showed three times against the Timberwolves. Main reason? You play the Grizzlies, you shoulder the responsibility of defending Ja Morant, Memphis’ frenetic, exciting point guard. But the way he stepped up really helped us. Said Curry: “He hadn’t been on this stage before, and it’s not something you can teach, being ready for a moment like this. Asked how it went when he told guard Jordan Poole he’d be coming off the bench in the opener against Memphis, Warriors coach Steve Kerr kind of smirked. “The Jordan we’ve seen the last few months, this is what he looks like.
