Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens close season by routing ... (Globalnews.ca)

The final night was a visit from the Florida Panthers, with the Canadiens giving the fans a lot of joy to end the season with a 10-2 win.

The draft starts to get a little weaker at around 20 to 25. That’s a lot of potential talent in the first 33 picks, considering this draft looks strong heading into the second round. This caused an emergency call-up of Cayden Primeau as Price was unavailable to even back-up just in case a second goalie was forced to enter the net. He didn’t have an outstanding season this year in the Ontario Hockey League, but the hope is that is more from boredom than laziness. He has been scoring at a point-per-game pace as a defenceman in the last half of the season. The improved play is important because if a would-be suitor had doubt that Petry perhaps had lost some of his game, it has come back. Montreal also has the pick of the Calgary Flames in the first round, so that will be around the 26 mark. His prettiest of the night was his second as he split the defence beautifully. In the third period, he counted another as he went skate to stick to net like lightning. He will be traded in the off-season, unless he withdraws his request, to move to an American club. It was another stellar performance from Jeff Petry who has found his skating legs and his passion for the game again after a hard winter without his family. Harris has been strong in his short tryout this April. He will have to earn his spot next season, but it shouldn’t be too difficult.

Panthers at Canadiens, April 29, 2022: Five things you should know (Standard Freeholder)

Carey Price will start in goal for Habs in final game of the regular season that has the best team in NHL playing against the worst.

The Canadiens traded Chiarot on March 16 in exchange for a second-round pick at this year’s NHL Draft, a first-round pick in 2023 and 20-year-old forward prospect Ty Smilanic, who had 13-10-23 totals in 41 games this season with Quinnipiac University. Chiarot had 7-11-18 totals in 54 games with the Canadiens this season and was minus-18 while averaging 23:33 of ice time. This has been a tough season for Petry, who has 6-20-26 totals in 67 games and is minus-13. The Panthers are coming off a 4-0 win over the Senators Thursday night in Ottawa that clinched the Presidents’ Trophy for the best record in the regular season. Last-place Habs: This is the last game of the season for both teams and the Canadiens clinched last place in the overall NHL standings Wednesday night when the Arizona Coyotes beat the Dallas Stars 4-3 in overtime. That means the Canadiens can pick no lower than third overall at this year’s NHL Draft and they have the best odds of getting the No. 1 pick in the draft lottery (25.5 per cent). The Canadiens ended a nine-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Rangers Wednesday night in New York. The Canadiens have the second-worst home record in the NHL (10-26-4), slightly ahead of the Coyotes (10-27-3). Head coach Martin St. Louis confirmed after Friday’s morning skate in Brossared that Carey Price will start in goal after visiting with the doctor in New York who performed knee surgery on him last July for a torn meniscus.

Montreal Canadiens prospect Joe Vrbetic has helped the North Bay Battalion quickly move past the opening round of the OHL Playoffs.

Vrbetic stopped 22 of them and the team skated away with a 3-2 win and a clean sweep in the opening round of the OHL postseason. Vrbetic wasn’t as strong in Game 2, allowing six goals, but the Battalion offence scored seven to take a 2-0 series lead. He didn’t play hockey last season since the OHL was shut down, but he is showing why the Habs took a chance on him with a late pick with a strong performance this season.

Canadiens Get Potential Drouin Deal Do-Over with Dubois (The Hockey Writers)

In some respects, comparing Montreal Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin to Pierre-Luc Dubois of the Winnipeg Jets is unfair.

The Canadiens have to learn from it so as not to sacrifice someone they’re going to need more down the road. Up to this point, he’s made savvy moves as the team’s new GM, but that was true of Bergevin too at one point, with the Drouin trade going down as one of his biggest mistakes. In that sense, any trade for Dubois can be considered a do-over for the organization, a chance to get things right… In theory, you can also play Dubois on the wing on the first line beside Suzuki and Cole Caufield. Assuming, knock on wood, the Canadiens still finish with one of the top two picks at the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, it would still make sense to draft a center like Shane Wright or Logan Cooley in such an instance. If that’s the case, his name is inevitably going to come up in the Canadiens rumor mill. Canadiens' Carey Price to start season finale vs. Panthers (Sportsnet.ca)

Carey Price will be in the net when the Montreal Canadiens host the Florida Panthers in their season finale Friday night.

Friday's matchup will feature both the President's Trophy winner and the league's first No. 32 seed, which the Canadine locked up earlier this week. "I'm happy that he was able to play but we'll see what the next few days will bring." "It's tough to tell, he will continue to get evaluated so it's tough to comment on that before we get all the information," said Canadiens interim coach Martin St. Louis earlier this week when asked about Price's status.

The Montreal Canadiens season comes to a close tonight with a matchup against the President's Trophy winning Florida Panthers.

He has played 24 games this season, partly due to injuries but he has also been made a healthy scratch on numerous occasions as well. He did score a hat trick early in the season at the Bell Centre which was a special moment, but he hasn’t scored again since. It could also be the last game of Mathieu Perreault’s career.

Montreal is up against the cap and has only 19 players, including Shea Weber, under contract.

The guy who was signed as his backup, Jake Allen, has injury concerns of his own and made only 35 appearances. Price, who has been the top choice in previous years, was next at 16.9 per cent. Could the much-anticipated return of goaltender Carey Price be the finishing touch in a makeover? Montreal won seven of eight games with a win over Toronto and road wins against playoff-bound teams in Calgary and Edmonton. There were what realtors call good bones, a core of proven veterans and some youngsters who showed signs of becoming productive NHL players. Article content

Was Canadiens' season-ending win the end of Carey Price era? (Sportsnet.ca)

With roughly 20 seconds to go in a 10-2 win for his Montreal Canadiens on Friday, Carey Price plopped his stick atop his net and began waving at his family.

Never mind the goaltender, who was the best in the world, and all the things he did; I had the chance to be with him alone in the dressing room on many early mornings, and he’s just an extraordinary person.” He was incredible, and I had no doubt at all we were going to win the gold medal in Sochi. Carey was invincible.” Injuries have piled up over the years and validated this doubt, with him only appearing in five of 82 games this season. Several setbacks — following a one-month stint in the NHL/NHLPA’s player assistance program — turned what was supposed to be an eight-to-10-week recovery into a nearly season-long absence, and there was fear Price had suffered another setback after just four games of action. It was something much better than what we saw on most nights this season — the Canadiens tumbled to the bottom of the standings early on and locked themselves into last place in the NHL before the puck even dropped. Without any official word, Price was back on the ice Thursday despite the Canadiens having a day off. And he might not be willing to come Saturday, when the Canadiens hold their end-of-season media availabilities. “It means everything to us (to win for him),” he started. This happened while play was still ongoing — with the Canadiens in possession of the puck just 10 feet away from him — and there’s no way of knowing with any certainty what it symbolized. Cole Caufield, who began the season with one goal over his first 30 games, managed to score three to bring his total to 23 in 67 games. “I’m not going to lie, it feels pretty good,” Caufield told the media. “I hope the best, and for whatever he hopes,” Gervais said.

Rest 'em Up: Montreal Canadiens 10, Florida Panthers 2 (Florida Hockey Now)

The Montreal Canadiens host the Presidents' Trophy winning Florida Panthers at Bell Centre on Friday, April 29, 2022.

He looked dazed for a second, but got up and skated off on his own power. Eetu Luostarinen found him with a behind-the-back pass and he put in a shot from the slot with 1:37 left in the first period to put Florida on the board. Noel Acciari got the Panthers back on the board with 5:05 to go, poking a loose puck home and cutting their deficit to 10-2. The Panthers got a power play out of it and it was Chiarot who cashed in. The Canadiens started the scoring 1:57 into the game as 21-year-old defenseman Jordan Harris got his first NHL goal off of a shot from the point that bounced off of Matt Kiersted and into the net. The Panthers, playing a meaningless game after wowing for much of the first 81, found themselves down three goals in the first 4:30 — and it did not get much better from there.

Montreal Canadiens: Watch Jordan Harris Score First Career NHL ... (A Winning Habit)

Montreal Canadiens defender Jordan Harris scored the first goal of his NHL career tonight against the Florida Panthers in the Habs last game.

Harris goal was the first of an outburst of offence for the Canadiens as the Panthers iced a minor league-ish lineup in the final game of their terrific season. There are not a lot of positives to come from a 55 point team in the standings, but Harris is part of a young core of defenceman that is coming along and could transform the blue line of this team in the near future. He turned pro after his senior season with the Northeastern Huskies ended early in the NCAA Championship tournament.

Montreal gives its fans something to cheer about, while Florida rests its key players ahead of the playoffs.

Head equipment manager Pierre Gervais was honoured in a pregame ceremony. It was his fourth of the season and the first since he had a hat trick against Detroit on Oct. 23. He finished the season with 23 goals, an impressive total when you consider that 22 of those goals were scored after Martin St. Louis took over as head coach in early February. Count rookie defenceman Jordan Harris as a keeper. Before you get too excited over the result, it should be noted that the Panthers’ goal was to get out of this game in one piece. Article content

Canadiens: sept records peu enviables - TVA Sports (TVA Sports)

Canadiens: St. Louis Compares Cole Caufield to Steven Stamkos (A Winning Habit)

Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis compared Cole Caufield to Steven Stamkos as a rookie. Just how similar were the rookie seasons of the two snipers?

Under Dominique Ducharme, he scored just a solitary goal and 8 points in 30 games, even being sent down to the AHL for 6 games in the Fall. Following the 4 goals he scored in his first 10 NHL games at the end of last regular season, and the 4 goals and 12 points he put up in 20 playoff games, hopes were very high for him to take the next step this season with the Canadiens, but that didn’t happen… Caufield has potted matched his jersey number in goals scored (22) and added 13 assists for 35 points in the 37 games he’s played since St. Louis’ hiring. Caufield, for his part, shattered the USNTDP goalscoring records on a generational team filled with future first-round picks and current NHLers. Caufield scored 72 goals in 64 games in his draft year. However, through his first three months of play, he scored just 4 goals and 14 points in 36 games. Caufield, for his part, had a highly-documented struggle to produce to start this season. Over the 79 games Stamkos played, who spent 46 minutes in the box that year.
