The Toronto Maple Leafs host the Boston Bruins at Scotiabank Arena on Friday in what will be the regular-season finale for both squads.
It should also be hard for Toronto to find offence on a night where its entire first line, plus Tavares, is sidelined. Toronto, meanwhile, has gone under this total in six of the eight games Matthews has missed this season. The Bruins have won four consecutive games and six of their past seven. Boston’s top stars have been exactly that during this run. Toronto will rest Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and John Tavares in Friday’s contest. An overtime loss for Boston and a regulation loss for the Bolts would also create a first-round matchup between Boston and Toronto.

The Tampa game got a little physical at the end, but that’s more a reflection of the score than anything else. He earned a place in the All-Star game for a reason because of how he had played. Some of that might be made [based] on our injuries and stuff like that, but those guys have given us great belief about our ability to get more out of the fourth line. He’s in a really good place and feels confident and comfortable with where his game is at. The fact that we didn’t clinch home ice until game 81 despite setting franchise records and having a terrific season shows just how tight the division is. He’s worked extremely hard to get his game back, and he’s in a really good spot right now. That was priority one for us for the last couple of months: getting Jack back in a groove. Obviously, the most important thing is just to get through the game healthy and compete at a high level. We think we are going to need more from our depth guys when the playoffs begin just because of the pace, the physicality being so high, the volume of games, and how quickly the games come at you. If the Lightning win their game against the Islanders tonight, it’s all moot anyway, and the Leafs will be welcoming the back-to-back Cup champs to Scotiabank Arena on Monday night. For the Leafs, all of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and John Tavares will be resting for tonight’s regular-season finale. With the Bruins facing down the possibility of playing Carolina or Toronto — winners of 54 and 53 games, respectively — while starting on the road, the difference clearly isn’t enough for Bruce Cassidy to sacrifice rest and risk injury to core players, as Boston will sit nine regulars tonight.

The Boston Bruins have responded in kind, with eight regulars set to watch from the press box. Otherwise, the Leafs will play Tampa and the Bruins will face the top seed from the Metropolitan Division — the Carolina Hurricanes. The Toronto Maple Leafs aren't the only ones resting their star players for Friday's season finale.

Maple Leafs picks, you could win $27.58 on a $10 bet? This is the Bruins’ game to lose and I think they have some incredible value. The Bruins offence has been solid all season — not great, but solid — as they are currently ranked 15th, averaging 3.1 gpg. They’ll be facing a Toronto Maple Leafs team sitting several key players to give those guys some extra rest for their first-round playoff matchup. Anyway, the Leafs are coming out of comfortably cruising through a 3-0 victory over the Red Wings and ekeing out a win over the Capitals in the shootout. The Leafs fan is currently wracked with anxiety, they’re already thinking of the demon in the back of their brain stem that says “It could happen again” louder and louder and louder. Right here at the very end of the regular season. I was probably going to use today to start drafting previews for a possible Boston-Carolina series, and now here we are; The Bruins are potentially playing Game Zero of their first round series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs if all the cards fall in the right place. The Lightning, the team ahead of Boston, let the Blue Jackets walk all over them in a 4-1 loss, meaning that they’re now only a single point up on them. The actual events of this game don’t matter, not really.
Welcome back to another day of NHL Predictions. Today's featured game is the Boston Bruins vs Toronto Maple Leafs.
Coming from a 5-0 loss to the Bruins on Thursday, the Sabres will try their best to guarantee the win to enter the offseason on a high. The chances are they’ll make a big push to get the win! Columbus is only trying to get a win to enter the offseason on a roll and keep the morale high. Entering the last game of the season, both teams should try to get a win to finish the season on a high. With Pittsburgh already clinched and trying to hold on to their third spot in the Metropolitan Division, this should be a fun game to watch. They’ll likely not make a big push against Columbus but if they want to avoid falling to the wild card, the Penguins will have to try and win this one.
It's the final game of the regular season, and there's still something to be decided.
Will the Leafs play the Bruins or the Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. There’s really nothing left to say on the season right now. The Leafs areshort on forwards with all those scratches, even with the emergency recall of Joey Anderson from the Marlies, so they will use a variant 11 forward/7 defence setup tonight meaning the lines will be scrambled from the start.

The Boston Bruins left behind some of their best players in Boston and it showed in a 5-2 loss to the Maple Leafs to close the year.
Certainly Mark Giordano is worth recognition as well for his plus-3 rating and assist in a strong performance on Toronto’s back end, but Nylander was the guy that filled the starring role for Toronto. Nylander finished with a very strong 34 goals for the Maple Leafs and goes into the postseason with some momentum on his side. TURNING POINT: The Boston Bruins looked like they were in good shape after Trent Frederic scored just 70 seconds into the game, but Toronto exploded for offense early and often while building up a 3-1 lead at the end of the first intermission. BLACK EYE: Tough night for the kids as Jack Studnicka and Marc McLaughlin combined for a minus-6 rating and did not look good against Toronto’s offensive skill and speed.

They entered Friday with the worst power play in the league and third-worst goals per game. They finished with fewer victories in a full season only three other times, two of which came in the second and third year of the club's existence. Hellebuyck got a piece of Tkachuk's shot, but the puck still went over the line. Boos reigned down as they skated off the ice. When Winnipeg went on its fourth power play eight minutes into the third, another Connor blast got blocked. Then Caufield winded a wrist shot to get Montreal up by three. Vladar stopped Wheeler close in, then leading-scorer Kyle Connor shot wide of the net. Tkachuck reached the 30-goal plateau for the first time in his career with the eventual winning tally on a wrist shot on a power play with 3:22 left in regulation. Jordan Harris notched his first career goal from the point with the first shot of the night. Edmonton tied the game 31 seconds into the third as a Kulak blast from the point found the back of the net with with Evander Kane providing the screen in front. Playing his ninth NHL game after signing with Toronto following the conclusion of his U.S. college season in late March, Abruzzese then scored his first in the NHL on a nice deflection of a Morgan Rielly point shot with 6.7 seconds left in the period. However, Vancouver would start the scoring with 2:27 left in the opening frame when Miller blasted a shot off the crossbar and into the net for his 32nd goal and 99th point.
