In his third and final mock of the 2022 NFL Draft's first round, Peter Schrager has two teams -- the Eagles and Packers -- trading up to nab wide receivers.
Comped to Matt Forte, Hall is the choice. Only 21 years old and a redshirt sophomore last season, the Tulsa product is just getting started. With this selection, I will have had Tampa taking a safety in back-to-back mock drafts. Williams is the burner of this receiver group and, when healthy, would join former Alabama teammate DeVonta Smith. That's exactly what the Jets need. It feels like Walker is the guy. Now the winds have changed direction to Ickey. I think the Falcons go edge rusher no matter what. But I don't see it happening. The Chiefs wait patiently and nab Burks -- one of the more versatile wide receivers in this draft -- near the end of the first round. I think the Eagles get aggressive -- trading away Pick Nos. 18 and 51 overall to Houston in exchange for No. 13 -- to ensure they get the wide receiver they covet. The first wideout off the board, Wilson is able to contribute from Day 1 for the Jets. Many believe he is the surest thing at the position in this year's draft class.

It’s not even a given which position will be selected first. Maybe the Ravens dip into those seven third- or fourth-round picks and move up from 14. Maybe a guy like Kayvon Thibodeaux or Derek Stingley Jr. is available outside the top 10. Vikings Big Board It’s hard to poke many holes in Cine’s game, and it spoke volumes throughout his college career that Georgia coach Kirby Smart always wanted him on the field, executing a key role in neutralizing the opponent. Rankings and testing data for 1,698 prospects. Scouting reports on 399 prospects. This is the first draft under new Saints coach Dennis Allen, so there's certainly a little bit of mystery as to how they might operate after Sean Payton ran the show for so many years. The Saints' top needs are wide receiver, a left tackle to replace Terron Armstead and perhaps another starting safety after Malcolm Jenkins retired. The Rams have eight picks, though those don’t begin until No. 104. Find out who goes where and other predictions for each team below. The 2022 need-based crowd is clamoring for a cornerback, which could be the pick.
A year ago, there was no doubt the Jaguars would draft Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick. As we inch closer to tonight's draft, the betting markets ...
Golden State is down to +135 to win the West and +320 to win the NBA championship. Meanwhile, Hutchinson is now the favourite to go second overall to the Detroit Lions at -200. Liberty’s Malik Willis is the betting favourite to be the first quarterback selected in the draft. Michigan EDGE Aidan Hutchinson, who could be found as low as -400 to be the first overall pick over the past couple of weeks, is now +500 to go No. 1 at FanDuel. Looking at the updated odds at FanDuel right now, Walker is currently the overwhelming favourite to go first overall at -450. Walker is now -450 to be the No. 1 overall pick.
Travon Walker and Aidan Hutchinson come off the board first, while quarterbacks slide to the Saints and Steelers.
Elam has an NFL pedigree as both his father (Abe) and uncle (Matt) played safety in the league. Lloyd can impact the game in a variety of ways with his ability to cover tight ends, get to the quarterback as a blitzer and defend the run. Ideally suited to play press where he can use his size, strength and physicality at the line of scrimmage, Elam has outstanding straight-line speed (4.39 40-yard dash). Dotson creates separation with his nuanced route running and quickness, has outstanding hands and is elusive in the open field even though he won’t break a lot of tackles. Ojabo is relatively new to football, but he finished last season with 11 sacks—second in the Big Ten behind Hutchinson—and his pass-rush moves are more developed than one would expect given his limited experience. Smith has tremendous power and the bully mentality to be a dominant run blocker, offers plenty of upside and could sneak into the back end of Round 1. Karlaftis lacks ideal length and bend at the top of his rush, but he wins with power. Neal started at a different position—left guard and both tackle spots—in each of his three seasons at Alabama. The former five-star recruit has size and tremendous power, but also the movement skills of a much lighter player. McDuffie has just average size and lacks length (sub-30" arms), but he’s aggressive and physical in run support and limits yards after the catch. Hamilton would give Lovie Smith a true difference maker on the back end with his unique blend of height, length, athleticism and ball production (eight career interceptions). I’m sticking with Thibodeaux here from my most recent mock, but there is some buzz that this could be Florida State’s Jermaine Johnson II (instead of Thibodeaux, if they go edge) and I’ve mocked Johnson to the Jets (albeit at 10th) much earlier in the process. All of the offseason chaos leads us into a draft that has shaped up to be one of the more unpredictable in recent memory.

Even if the NFL didn't get everything it wanted out of this year's setup, it's still the most ambitious draft stage it's done to date. While the NFL historically hasn't skimped on its stages, this one is by far the most involved. The league isn't letting the postponement hamper its plans for the lavish host city.
As has been the case in recent years, there is a bevy of options for NFL fans to watch the draft, including cable subscriptions, apps and streaming platforms.

Leonard reportedly had top 30 visits with the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts, which is a strong indication that he is being considered for the draft. He performed well for approximately 40 NFL scouts at Wake Forest’s pro day and participated in the College Gridiron Showcase. The Cowboys hit a home run in last year’s draft by selecting NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and first-team All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons at twelfth overall. He finished his four-year NCAA career with 151 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, six knockdowns, and one fumble recovery. Don’t forget to get in on the action and place your bets before things get underway on Thursday. At least one Canadian player has been selected in each of the past eleven NFL drafts, a streak that is expected to continue this year.

In Lance Zierlein's final mock of the 2022 NFL Draft, he sees the Steelers trading up for a quarterback -- the only one picked in Round 1.
One of the hotter names on the board at linebacker, Walker is dependable, smart and athletic. Dallas could go in a variety of directions at this spot, including trading up. The Giants already grabbed a pass rusher at No. 5. Sure, the Falcons need help at receiver, but have you seen their pass rush? What a tough call for New York with Aidan Hutchinson still on the board. Philadelphia has an obvious void at one cornerback spot. Tampa, in need of a guard in the worst way, takes a talented drive blocker with guard/tackle flexibility and loads of upside -- if he can learn to play with better discipline. Gordon didn't run as fast as expected at the combine (4.52 40-yard dash), but he's a physical specimen with twitch and toughness and a good deal of improvement still to come. Elam has been a riser in the draft process, thanks to strong interviews and a solid showing at the NFL Scouting Combine. The Saints, in desperate need of a left tackle after Terron Armstead's departure in free agency, get the best one still on the board while passing on receiver (for the time being). Big win for the Panthers. In Neal, they get a Day 1 starter at left tackle upon which to build a foundation for success. I'm sure the Giants will race this card up to the podium, as they take home one of the top players at a major position of need.

Baalke has drafted eight defensive linemen on Day Three of the draft, including three in the seventh round. - Baalke also seems to value the safety position early. Sixth round: wide receiver (3), safety (2), center (1), linebacker (1), cornerback (1), guard (1), quarterback (1), running back (1), Fourth round: running back (3), guard (1), wide receiver (3), cornerback (2), tight end (1) defensive end (1), defensive tackle (1) Second round: quarterback (1), running back (2), defensive end (1), tight end (1), safety (1), cornerback (1), tackle (1) - Pederson likes to draft defensive lineman on Day Three of the draft. Note: Throughout this article, positions for each pick are listed below, but individual player names are not. Fourth round: wide receiver (1), running back (1), cornerback (1), defensive end (2), safety (1), guard (1) Of course, with each franchise, there are multiple people with input into a draft pick and Pederson and Baalke were likely not the only person in their respective rooms making the pick in any given year. But with that in mind, let’s examine the data and see if there are any particular positions the decision-makers have favored not just in the first round, but through all seven rounds of past drafts. By the end of Thursday night, that question will finally be answered. The 2022 NFL Draft begins tonight, Thursday April 28 at 8 p.m., and runs through Saturday, April 30.
Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze admitted he has "no clue on what's really gonna happen tonight" in regard to which team selects QB Malik Willis.
The tide of these evaluations and debates will play a pivotal role in the Cowboys' moves tonight. - One route that could see the Panthers selecting a quarterback involves acquiring a Day 2 pick. The 2022 crop of quarterbacks, as well as the position at which teams are willing to bite, looms over the draft as one of the big question marks. Cornerback and wide receiver stand out as positions of need, but Palmer went as far as to identify Philadelphia's primary target: Oregon pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. "He is a freak on film," Palmer said. "In the right place, he can come in and play," Freeze said. Freeze told NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano that the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks have maintained the most contact.
It's likely we'll see an early run on edge rushers and offensive linemen – but even at those positions, there's no clear consensus as to who will be selected ...
(ES) the Super Bowl champs have already won the week: (ES) Because Seattle’s facing a full-on rebuild they’re also facing a long list of draft needs. Just like the Jets, the Giants are in an enviable position with two picks in the top 10 and five in the first 81 selections. The Panthers are in quite the pickle after missing out on Deshaun Watson. The team reportedly likes Kenny Pickett but based on scouting reports from the 2022 draft class, no quarterback this year is worth taking in the top 10. (ES) The Bears need last year’s first-round pick, Justin Fields, to be the solution to their long-standing problems at the QB position and the only way to do that is to give him some support. Green Bay has yet to draft a wide receiver in the first round during the Rodgers era (the last time they did, they took Javon Walker in 2002) but this is a trend that needs to end in 2022. It would add another layer to an offence that also has Derick Henry at RB. (MJ) Dolphins GM Chris Grier has had a productive off-season by adding Tyreek Hill and Terron Armstead – no excuses for Tua & Co. this season – so the few picks they have could be used for defence. Teams are grouped by division, with their top draft position listed. The Lions, Eagles, Saints, Packers, and Chiefs round out the rest of the field of teams that have two first-round picks.
The Sporting News has everything you need to know about the 2022 NFL Draft, including date and start time from Las Vegas.
1 1 1 Unlike last year, however, there isn't a consensus No. 1 player (though most draft experts believe Aidan Hutchinson or Travon Walker will go in the top two, in some order). Cord cutters have a few different options to catch the NFL Draft at cost. Considering teams have 10 minutes per draft pick, the first round of the NFL Draft can be expected to end at roughly midnight.
Teams have ten minutes to make their selection and that clock starts as soon as the previous team has made their move. With 32 picks tonight, that's a ...

Neither the Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams have a pick in the top 100. If the Jags don't select a QB with the first pick, it will be the fifth time in the past 16 drafts that a quarterback does not go first overall. Breer believes the Chiefs could be looking for a wide receiver, pass rusher, or a cornerback. "Breece Hall seems to be the consensus No. 1 running back and if there was someone who has a chance to go in Round 1, Breece Hall would be it. With 2021 No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence at quarterback, the Jaguars are heavily rumoured to be selecting either Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson or Georgia defensive end Travon Walker. Walsh, who spoke to head coach Doug Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke on Wednesday afternoon, was told that the franchise had yet to make a decision on who would be taken first overall. And he could be the guy some team winds up making a move up for." The Jacksonville Jaguars will pick No. 1 for a second-consecutive year as NFL Draft day has finally arrived. Cimini adds that it's possible both teams are waiting to see what players are available at the Jets' No. 10 overall pipck, before pulling the trigger on a deal. The Jacksonville Jaguars will pick No. 1 for a second-consecutive year as NFL Draft day has finally arrived. But the team to me to look out for here would be the Buffalo Bills. It really only makes sense to take a running back this early if it is the final piece of something. "On its surface it seems like bad news, he now heads into a contract year for the New York Giants. But the reality is if Daniel Jones has the kind of season that he wants and the Giants want, he can cash in big time.

The night is all about football, but it is a little bit about fashion too.
I would describe his suit as "classy with flair." Another Georgia Football alum, Nakobe Dean, also showed off his championship ring on the red carpet. I appreciate a bold suit choice and former Georgia Bulldog Jordan Davis wore his old colors on the NFL Draft carpet. Why have one chain with your nickname on it, when you can have two? To make a good first impression, players often spend a lot of time and effort deciding what outfit to wear. It is a night where fans still have hope for their teams, players stand on the podium as their dreams come true and experts are breaking down each selection and how well it will help the team.

With two nights remaining in the regular season, only two playoff matchups are set in stone. He bet it all and nailed the question (Who is William Butler Yeats?) to pull even with Roach, who looked like she might be in trouble after scribbling down her response just before the deadline. Since losing Game 3 in overtime, the Raptors have gotten NBA rookie of the year Scottie Barnes back from a sprained ankle, cracked down defensively, and held the Sixers to 88 points in a stifling Game 5 upset that had Philly fans booing their team off the court. If they can pull off another victory over the Philadelphia 76ers tonight at home, the Raptors will send their first-round playoff matchup to a deciding Game 7 and have a chance to become the first team in NBA history to win a series after trailing 3-0. Last year, a record-tying four Canadians were picked (all from rounds two through four in the seven-round draft). Dion's take: A move to defensive end out of team necessity in 2021 helped to refine and diversify Luketa's draft appeal. Dion's take: Metchie will be the first Canadian selected in this year's draft, and he's likely to come off the board between rounds two or three on Day 2. None are expected to be chosen in tonight's first round, and as few as two could be picked before the draft wraps up on Saturday.

In the run game, he doesn't roll his hips at the point of attack, but stays on his feet and flashes upper torque to turn and dump defenders. He also has the ability to grab and control the wrist of his opponent. He likes to cradle-catch balls on his frame, which leads to some drops, but he flashes the ability to high point and finish. Against the run, his burst and angles to the ball are highly impressive, but he will go low and miss a few tackles. He has the ability to layer the ball accurately in the intermediate area of the field and he throws a beautiful, lofting deep ball. The dip/rip move is his bread and butter, but he needs to add to his arsenal. He gives up separation out of the break, but he has the ability to recover and locate the ball in the air. He has a quick release and he can really power the ball outside the numbers and down the field. He is fluid and fast in everything he does on the field. He has the fluidity to match up in man coverage underneath and he’s a dynamic blitzer. He has some pop out of his plant and he can find and play the ball. Against the pass, he has the athleticism to match up with RBs and TEs underneath.

The Dolphins traded this year's first-round pick to the Chiefs for receiver Tyreek Hill. The 49ers used the 2021 pick they received in the trade to draft quarterback Trey Lance. The Chiefs sent the No. 29 pick to the Patriots for the No. 21 pick, which they used to draft Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie. The Bears traded up from No. 20 to No. 11 in 2021, giving the Giants the No. 20 pick and a fifth-rounder in 2021 (No. 164) along with a first (No. 7) and fourth-round pick (No. 112) this year. The Lions traded the No. 32 pick to the Vikings, then drafted Alabama receiver Jameson Williams. The Eagles traded the No. 15 pick to the Texans for the No. 13 pick, then drafted Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis. The initial first-rounder ended up being the No. 23 pick in 2021. The pick was traded from the Saints to the Commanders on Thursday. The Eagles used the No. 13 pick to draft Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis. The Texans used the No. 15 pick on Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green. The Seahawks used the No. 9 pick on Mississippi State tackle Charles Cross. The first-round pick was originally traded to the Dolphins from the San Francisco 49ers last year as part of the Trey Lance trade. The Commanders used the No. 16 pick on Penn State receiver Jahan Dotson. The Lions originally acquired the No. 32 pick from the Los Angeles Rams in the Matthew Stafford trade last year. The Titans used the No. 18 pick on Arkansas receiver Treylon Burks.

He is their ideal type of interior blocking prospect with his versatility tied to balanced strength and agility and fills a considerable need with Ted Karras and Shaq Mason no longer on the roster. Wyatt slipped a little with the Cardinals not picking, but Green Bay had a need to upgrade around Kenny Clark in its three-man front. The Cowboys took a late-rising player vs. Elam was worthy of a late first-rounder or early second-rounder, so this isn’t really too much of a reach. going for a wide receiver or pass rusher, but they liked McDuffie as their replacement for Chavarius Ward to make this move. Penning has a mean and nasty streak along with his athletic upside in a sturdy frame, making him the ideal bookend for Ryan Ramczyk in front of Winston. With the Olave pick earlier, the Saints are committed to better downfield pocket passing. Johnson does a little bit of everything well with his all-around skill set, featuring his natural agility and power. The Commanders took a circuitous route to getting their deep threat complement to Terry McLaurin, knowing Carson Wentz operates best when having that type of player outside. Davis had a late boost up the board as he got more attention for his sometimes explosive interior pass rush. Look for Moore to slide into the slot while Davis acts like more of a big possession body and Wilson becomes the primary field-stretcher for his second-year QB. The Falcons jumping on London made this a no-brainer. Gardner is the best corner in the draft and the Jets didn’t want to take a chance on him still being there at No. 10, given the crosstown Giants had heavy interest behind them. It’s a true boom-or-bust selection for Nick Caserio.

With good size and length at 6-foot-5, 310, Cross is considered by some scouts the best pass blocker in this draft. Picks 10, 11 and 12 were all pass catchers, starting with Garrett Wilson to the New York Jets at No. 10. ___ ___
After Travon Walker and Aidan Hutchinson were the first off the board, several trades shook up Round 1. Who won the first day in Las Vegas?
Cine delivers some big hits in run support and is a reliable tackler in space with sideline-to-sideline range. He has a quick first step, violent and active hands and a nonstop motor with the versatility to line up inside or outside. He showed off his elite quickness and athleticism by running a 4.77 40-yard dash at 304 pounds at the combine. Johnson led the ACC in both tackles for loss (17.5) and sacks (11.5) in 2021 as the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Johnson continued to improve his stock throughout the pre-draft process, and he uses his blend of strength, length (34” arms) and burst to make plays against the run and pass. Kaiir has outstanding straight-line speed (4.39 40-yard dash), and he’s at his best in press where he can use his size and physicality at the line of scrimmage. Due to his physicality, run-after-catch prowess and how the Razorbacks varied his alignments, it’s easy to see how the Titans could use Burks similarly to how the 49ers use Deebo Samuel. Burks finished 2021 with 66 receptions for 1,104 yards, 14 carries for 112 yards and a total of 12 touchdowns. The Commanders had only one receiver (Terry McLaurin) with 400-plus yards last season and will benefit from adding a talented receiver like Dotson. Creating separation with his nuanced route-running and quickness, Dotson has outstanding hands and is elusive in the open field even though he won’t break a lot of tackles. Improved hand usage will help cut down on holding penalties, but the former five-star recruit has a powerful lower half, outstanding length and is at his best in the run game. The Ravens get a steal with my second-ranked player overall. Quick and elusive, Wilson ran a faster-than-expected 40-yard dash (4.38) in Indianapolis. He’s a complete receiver that finished 2021 with 70 catches for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s a top-three prospect, so the Giants get some good value here. The Jets needed an upgrade at corner, and he has the chance to become one of the best.
How does No. 12 really feel about the Packers' latest draft picks?
We've got a lot to play for, a lot of exciting things." "I'm excited to get back to there and get things going. To the surprise of many, Rodgers was fine with it.
Most football cognoscenti expected the Packers to draft a wide receiver in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft this Thursday after trading Davante Adams ...
Meanwhile, Wyatt was perhaps the best defensive tackle in the draft, and owns size, speed, and an array of moves to win inside. Stockpiling defensive difference-makers was the smart move by Gutekunst. Instead of reaching for a position of need, he got two Bulldogs who could contribute immediately. Walker combines size and athleticism to shut down the run and has the upside to be a three-down linebacker with range in space.
The 2022 NFL Draft is filled with uncertainty at the top, so naturally that uncertainty has cascaded into the bottom of the first round, where the Green Bay ...
He’s not really productive after the catch, so he’s not going to be a great playmaker with the ball in his hands. He’s big, he can run, he can play the ball in the air. Asked if Dotson is a slot-only receiver or if he could win across the formation, the executive said: “He’s going to win inside. I think he can play outside because he’s smart, he catches the ball, he can run a little bit. If you’re trying to bet on upside, he’s a dude you take in the second round. Framed as Burks would be a good fit with all those quick-hitting passes that went to Adams, the executive said: “You get him the ball in space, flex him outside and throw him jump balls. With Preston Smith and Gary, the Packers could do the same with Mafe, a 260-pounder with 4.53 speed. That leaves the Packers back on the clock at No. 28 with a chance to address other top needs. I don’t have a clue what the Packers are going to do tonight, to be honest. The thought here, and it’s echoing what that aforementioned executive said, is the Packers will move up and select the polished Olave. With two picks in the second round, one in the third and two more in the fourth, general manager Brian Gutekunst has enough draft capital on his hands that he can sacrifice one in a trade. They need someone capable of winning against a good corner on third-and-8 in the fourth quarter in December and January. But you know who else is a great coach with a great scheme?
It was a big night for the Big Apple, Kenny Pickett and wide receivers. The same couldn't be said for Malik Willis. Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.
Pickett became the first quarterback to be selected with the No. 20 pick in the Super Bowl era, and he's going to a stable organization that will allow for a year to develop behind Mitchell Trubisky. Baltimore didn't move at the No. 14 spot, and used the pick to draft Hamilton, a play-making safety who will help a secondary that was riddled by injuries last season. Pickett's hand size was a popular topic at the NFL Combine, but that will only get brought up if he struggles at the next level. Then, the Eagles traded the No. 18 pick to Tennessee for receiver A.J. Brown, who gives quarterback Jalen Hurts a legit No. 1. On one hand, the Packers and Chiefs didn't chase at the position after the run was completed. As for the second pick. What did those Super Bowl contenders do to address the position in the first round? Johnson slid down the board a little more than expected, and the Jets pounced on that value. The Jets improved with an impressive three-pack. It's not a flashy first day, but Schoen took the best players available. Arizona traded for Marquise Brown, and Philadelphia traded for A.J. Brown. Green Bay and Kansas City didn't address the receiver position, which was another surprise. Rookie Aziz Ojulari led the Giants with eight sacks last season.
If a prospect is considered a great pick the day of the draft, but doesn't work out in the long run, that's a completely different evaluation of his new team's ...
Analysis: San Francisco gave up its 2022 first-round pick to Miami last year when moving up for quarterback Trey Lance. With Lance making just two starts as a rookie, I'm giving the 49ers an average grade for now. Roseman turned Philly's second first-round pick ( No. 18) into former Titans receiver A.J. Brown, whom they immediately gave a four-year extension worth $100 million with $57 million guaranteed. New York used the final pick from the Jamal Adams trade to select Wilson at No. 10. Analysis: The Saints gave up No. 16 overall, a third- and fourth-round pick to grab Washington's 11th spot to select Olave. The Saints badly needed speed on the outside and the run on receivers was real, so GM Mickey Loomis pulled off another first-round trade to get his guy. Analysis: The Rams did not have a first-round pick this year because they sent it to the Lions for quarterback Matthew Stafford last offseason. Getting a haul of draft picks from the Dolphins in return for Hill gives Reid another chance to prove that belief is correct. Lloyd's lack of supreme athleticism cost him draft position, but he displayed blossoming pass-rush ability when given the chance at Utah, as well as the willingness to plug gaps against the run and cover tight ends. Analysis: The Colts gave up their first-round pick in the trade with Philadelphia for Carson Wentz last year. It's too early to make a complete evaluation of the Matthew Stafford trade, which netted the Lions an extra first-round pick this year. Immediate draft grades provide a foundation for future evaluations. These 2022 NFL Draft quick-snap grades are an indication of whether I think a prospect's selection is of appropriate value given his college film and athleticism scores. Waiting three years to evaluate draft classes, without accounting for how the decision was viewed at the time, usually leads to revisionist history.
Travon Walker “had a good feeling” he might be the top pick in the NFL draft when he visited Jacksonville earlier this month.
Seattle was initially without a first-round pick due to the trade for Jamal Adams before the start of the 2020 season. no first-round selection. After seeing fellow left tackles Ikem Ekwonu and Evan Neal selected earlier in the draft, Cross had a feeling he could be headed to Seattle. Brown will turn 37 before the start of next season. I would take him at No. 1 and not even blink.” His highlights include more than sacks; he stops the run, tackles speedy receivers in the open field and tips passes that lead to interceptions. 2022 NFL Draft Round 1 Recap, Winners & Losers: Jets/Giants ace multiple picks, Eagles trade for A.J. Brown, Kenny Pickett only QB off the board to the Steelers ...
You'd have to go back to the 1991 NFL Draft to find a similar start to the first round to the one we just witnessed. For instance, in a recent two-round mock draft, CBS Sports NFL Draft expert Ryan Wilson had Strange coming off the board in the second round at No. 51 overall. It wasn't even just the draft community that was surprised by the pick. As we were still gaining all the information about the Hollywood Brown trade, a mammoth blockbuster deal came down that saw the Titans trade star receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles for the No. 18 overall pick and a third-rounder. Back in the 1997 NFL Draft, Jim Druckenmiller was taken No. 26 overall by the San Francisco 49ers. If there was going to be a blockbuster trade involving a receiver, many pointed to it centering around the 49ers receiver as there had been rumors of discontent and a possible trade request for weeks. While his "slide" only lasted until the No. 12 overall pick, it was a surprising team that ultimately plucked him off the board. Throughout the pre-draft process, the talking point on Alabama receiver Jameson Williams was that -- when healthy -- he is the top player at his position in this class. Instead, Marquise Brown was the first domino to fall as the Ravens elected to trade him -- and a third-round pick -- to the Arizona Cardinals for the No. 23 overall selection. Not only did we get the typical drama of a draft, but we also had blockbuster trades thrown our way along with trends that we haven't seen in decades. Entering the draft, the NFL was waiting for the Deebo Samuel shoe to drop at some point. Naturally, the madness from free agency carried over into the opening round of the draft where there were a number of jaw-dropping moments.

Thursday night brought good news for the Packers, Jared Goff, New York tabloids and Elon Musk. But as for the Cards, Commanders and hand-size advocates…
This is good news for the future of the NFL. This is bad news for a coaching staff that will shoulder the responsibility of making it all happen. Keim has spent a notable amount of draft capital on the wide receiver position; a habit that has only accelerated under the franchise’s transition to a modified Air Raid offense. Pickett is going to a capably run organization in Pittsburgh. Chances are pretty good that he has a fine career. There seemed to be a push just a year ago to surround Jackson with more receivers to help him showcase his accuracy and ability to drive the ball long and outside. It’s difficult to see where offenses are trending, look at Willis’s raw abilities on tape and not see an opening for him to succeed fairly quickly in the NFL right now. The result is an intriguing team on paper that boasts one of the best offensive lines in football and, perhaps, with the addition of Aidan Hutchinson, a far more representative defensive line. There is certainly an analytical and schematic case for Hollywood Brown to the Cardinals. Perhaps the marriage of Brown, Kliff Kingsbury, Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins makes this criticism look foolish in retrospect, but it’s difficult to view GM Steve Keim as a runaway winner on Thursday when the Eagles netted a much better receiver for just an additional third-round pick. Jackson’s style of play was always going to complicate his already-complicated, self-represented contract discussions with the Ravens. Now, Jackson is void of established playmakers beyond Mark Andrews, his phenomenal tight end, and could find himself leaving the backfield on foot more often than usual. But that shouldn’t erase the fact that he came out of Thursday with two players who could immediately change the complexion of Robert Saleh’s defense, and arguably the best receiver in the draft. Dotson is more of a luxury for a team that already has the identity and depth to utilize him. Despite providing a massive vote of confidence for Matt Rhule and Sam Darnold in his pre-draft press conference, I cannot imagine the Panthers’ owner wanted to go out and take a ridiculous long shot on a quarterback. We’ll write a little bit more about the Hollywood Brown trade below, but compare what Roseman gave up for Brown and what he paid to extend him, versus what the Cardinals sacrificed for a lesser wide receiver who will end up needing to get paid almost as much despite less production and less functional uses for him in an offense.

Zappe set FBS records for passing yards and passing touchdowns in a season in 2021. Now, he's hoping to hear his name called at the 2022 NFL Draft.
"And his NFL future will hinge on whether a coach believes there is enough to work with moving forward." Stuff like that tends to translate well at the NFL level, even if the physical skills don't quite match. He ran a 4.88 in the 40-yard dash. He picked the Red Raiders' defense apart to the tune of 567 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-33 loss. Still, the numbers were gaudy: 15 touchdowns to one interception, 65.6 completion percentage, 159.3 passer rating. Zappe was a relatively unknown quantity for the first three years of his collegiate career.
Is it fair to grade draft picks as they happen, as opposed to two or three years down the road, when we can really what prospects can do with their NFL ...
The Bengals did a lot in free agency to upgrade their offensive line (a veritable and obvious necessity), and they may do more in this particular mock. Wyatt is an amazing interior defensive lineman who brings Kenny Clark to mind, and when dealing with the Packers’ interior defensive line over the last few seasons, it’s been all about doubling Clark and singling everybody else. Since Johnson was my top edge-rusher in this class, and the Jets managed to get him by trading up to 26 with the Titans… well, this is ridiculous. With that 12th overall pick, Detroit gets the best receiver in this class (in my opinion), and a player who, when he recovers from injury, should have a Tyreek Hill-like impact on a Lions offense in desperate need of downfield speed and separation. This isn’t the flashiest pick, and there are those who will criticize the team for moving down when they could have had Jameson Williams with the 11th pick. Add Wilson to Corey Davis and Elijah Moore, and the Jets’ offense just got a lot more interesting. And he’s a better run-blocker than you may think, or Pete Carroll wouldn’t touch him with a 2000-mile pole. Well, my NFL comp for Ekonu was Taylor Moton, who will now be Moton’s bookend, if the Panthers choose to keep Ekwonu at tackle — he could also be a plus guard. Gardner played about 75% press in his snaps last season, and the Bearcats played more single-high than any NCAA defense except for LSU’s. There is no better fit for Robert Saleh’s defense in this draft class, regardless of position. The Texans obviously hope that Stingley can capitalize on his 2019 tape, which was first-overall pick stuff, and get past the last two seasons of injuries and relative ineffectiveness. I think that Florida State’s Jermaine Johnson II is the better edge defender, but it’s hard to argue against Walker’s potential. Add in who else might have still been on the boards, and you start to get a clearer picture of each pick.
We take a look at the 2022 NFL Draft order for Day 2, which includes the second and third rounds, and the first compensatory picks.

Will the Jaguars' gamble of taking Travon Walker pay off?
According to Valk, Long was on the road “minutes later … after stopping at a store to buy a jacket and scarf.” Long went all the way from Los Angeles to the Yukon-Alaska border, and only one of his photos made it into the magazine: a black-and-white shot of the climbing party from a distance. The only players from the ’97 draft who went on to attempt more than 200 passes were Plummer, Koy Detmer and Danny Weurfel. The strange thing about the photo is that it was shot by two of SI’s favorite outside photographers of the late 1960s. ‘It’s Sheedy and Long.’ In Los Angeles the girl comes on and says, ‘Sheedy and Long. You want Mr. Sheedy or Mr....’ ‘Well, which one is in?’ says Bloodgood. ‘I'll put him on,’ she says. (Caveat: before 2022, when five defenders were taken to start the draft.) Conor Orr wrote more about the draft than any person should, so I’ll just link to his author page instead of one individual post. This year’s QB class was widely regarded as a weak one, so it wasn’t a surprise that we had to wait until the back half of the round for one to be taken. Still, it was a bit of a surprise that only one (Pitt’s Kenny Pickett) was chosen. While Hutchinson’s and Thibodeaux’s college production made them safe choices at the top of the draft, Jacksonville is betting on Walker to take a leap once he gets to the NFL. He’s a stout run defender but had only 9.5 sacks in three college seasons. Kevin Hanson gave Detroit an A+ for the Hutchinson pick, not just because of his talent but because he fills a need for a team that struggled to pressure opposing quarterbacks last year. That’s why Hanson gave Jacksonville a B- for the pick. Georgia’s Travon Walker went first to the Jaguars, who had been rumored to be targeting him for the past week or so, allowing the Lions to take a hometown product many considered to be the best player available, Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson. After that, the moves were more unpredictable.
The first round of the 2022 NFL Draft was a record-breaking evening of chaos, beginning with the culmination of Travon Walker's surprising ascent to No.
Oh, what a first night at the 2022 NFL Draft it was, indeed. Each of them members of Georgia's national championship team, they bookended a first round in which five Bulldogs defenders were taken, which is the most for a school in the common draft era. Pickett ended up being the only quarterback to hear his name called, marking the first occasion in which only one QB was picked in the opening round since 2013. It was the latest a quarterback has gone in the draft since the 49ers picked Jim Druckenmiller 26th overall back in 1997. Entering Thursday evening in Las Vegas, the draft was poised to be one of the most unpredictable in memory. Six wide receivers were selected in the top 20 -- beginning with USC's Drake London to the Falcons at No. 8 and concluding with Arkansas' Treylon Burks at No. 18 to the Titans -- for a common draft era (since 1967) record, per NFL Research.
The 2022 NFL draft is finally on the clock, and USA TODAY Sports will provide instant insight into all 32 of Thursday night's selections.
Of note, it hardly mirrors your typical mock draft, with Walker – who could be Jacksonville's selection at No. 1 – listed 18th, and Pitt QB Kenny Pickett not making the top 50 cut at all (only two QBs did). Here is our friendly advice for all 32 NFL teams, pertinent both to the draft and beyond, as they continue shaping their rosters ahead of the 2022 season. Quite the indicator of how trades have pervaded the roster-building process when it seemed it wasn't that long ago that teams were highly reluctant top part with prime draft capital, especially first-rounders. USA TODAY Sports' Nate Davis and Mike Middlehurst-Schwartz both released their final mock drafts this week ... Davis good-naturedly complaining about the quality of Middlehurst-Schwartz's Thursday mock as compared to his Wednesday version. USA TODAY Sports' Josh Peter did a deep dive on the suit game that occurs before the draft. But you never know in the NFL. The Jets and Lions could be receiver-needy teams to monitor. But Lisfranc surgery limited him to three games in 2021 – a year after he was slowed by ankle issues. 19. Saints (from Eagles) – 18. Eagles (from Saints) – Hutchinson, who has a non-stop motor, was also a two-time team captain in Ann Arbor – and should help establish the kind of culture coach Dan Campbell and the Lions are seeking. He’s the No. 1 overall player on many draft boards even if he might not have the ceiling of Walker. But Hutchinson is closer to a finished product, the All-American and Heisman Trophy finalist setting a Wolverines single-season record with 14 sacks in 2021 while also posting 51 hurries. However the Sin City backdrop should make the visuals uniquely spectacular this year.

Ranking the top 230 prospects who could still hear their names called in rounds two through seven, including Nakobe Dean, Malik Willis and David Ojabo.
Watson has an elite combination of size and speed with a wide catch radius, and is elusive for a big receiver. Hall finished with his most productive season (13 TFLs and six sacks) in 2021. His intelligence and instincts allow him to play fast and impact the game in so many different ways. He had a 95/1,292/10 line in ’21 and PFF credited Moore with 26 broken tackles after the catch, which led FBS wide receivers last season. Although he has shouldered a heavy workload (800 career touches), Hall was highly productive and has the frame and versatile skill set to be a featured back. For teams that miss out on Jordan Davis or prefer to wait (a little longer) on a run-stuffing nose tackle, there won’t be much of a drop off with Jones. While he isn’t as effective against the run, his length (34 ⅛" arms), bend and active hands should allow him to become a productive pass rusher early in his career. Pickens’s best season came as a highly-touted true freshman when he hauled in 49 receptions for 727 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019. The scheme-diverse corner is a smooth and fluid mover with excellent ball skills. Similar to Elam, Hall has an NFL pedigree as he follows in the footsteps of his stepfather (Jeff Smith) and cousin (Roger Craig). Ojabo is relatively new to football, but he finished last season with 11 sacks—second in the Big Ten behind Hutchinson—and his pass-rush moves are more developed than one would expect given his limited experience. He’s joined by Iowa State running back Breece Hall, Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean and other collegiate stars who didn’t hear their names called on Thursday night in Las Vegas.
The first day of the 2022 NFL Draft has come to a close with some usual surprises in terms of reaches, trades and players who slipped.
He is a player who has the leadership and mental intangibles that teams covet from the quarterback and despite the lack of a top ten ceiling, Ridder in the middle of the second would be a great pick for the Seahawks. He is an unbelievably raw talent, although he has the ceiling of a player who can contend for a Defensive Player of the Year award if he can reach his ceiling. No team traded up into the first to draft him (giving them the fifth-year option), which is rather surprising and can be viewed as a message that the league might not be as high on him as many thought.

McBride can block, he can catch and he's a card-carrying tough guy. Needing to find a future starter at tackle, Green Bay takes a shot on Petit-Frere, who has experience on both the right and left side. After using first-round picks on cornerback Trent McDuffie and edge rusher George Karlaftis to address the defense, Kansas City takes a swing on the talented Georgia wideout to help restock the passing game. The addition of a quality running back makes sense on the surface -- and it makes even more sense considering the potential suspension coming for Alvin Kamara. The Seahawks might not have planned on drafting a QB this year, but is it even possible to pass on Willis at this spot? With Round 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft in the books, here's a look at how Rounds 2 and 3 could play out in Las Vegas on Friday, beginning at 7 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
