Who will win RB Leipzig vs Rangers? Our writers make their ... (Scottish Daily Record)

Giovanni van Bronckhorst takes his side to Germany for a monumental last four first leg against the Bundesliga side.

Rangers are up against it with top level opponents and a depleted squad. The Ibrox side’s form in Europe is absolutely terrific and despite having no Morelos, Roofe or Ramsey, they can score in Germany to give themselves a real chance in the second leg. The Germans have been in superb form ever since new boss Tedesco took over back in December. But they will be weakened by the loss of midfielder Kevin Kampl, and defenders Willi Orban and Mohamed Simakan to suspension and that could open the door for a Rangers team themselves depleted by injuries.

Even though Erling Haaland wasn’t playing they still have players who can do damage and I think the way Rangers went to Dortmund and played them off the park, they definitely deserved to win.” “He’s a fantastic player. “Dortmund have normally got more possession than their opponents, they are an attacking side at home due to the supporters and due to the way they play. “You cannot underestimate Glasgow Rangers. They really deserved to go through in the last round against Braga with the way they played and if they get into the final, I think anything is possible as it’s a one-off game. “They struggle a little bit at home because they always try to win the game at home and they are always open to counterattacks. “If Rangers play the way they did against Dortmund, I think there’s a chance to win especially in Leipzig.

Minute-by-minute report: Will either team take control of this tie in Germany? Join Nick Ames.

Tonight they go again, in this not-particularly-new-fangled Europa League of ours – and they’re tantalisingly close to making history again. Back then, they edged past Fiorentina in the Uefa Cup, only to fall short against Zenit at the last. So at long as there are no disasters tonight, the Ibrox crowd may well be able to see them home next time out. Our players believe, they’ve trained well, they look very focused and we’re going to play in a great atmosphere against a good team. Nkunku goes down in the box as he tries to spin Goldson, but tumbles a bit too easily. Rangers’ fans have been making themselves seen and heard in town all afternoon, in tremendous number.

Seventh in the Premier League against ninth in the Bundesliga with both teams having the carrot of knowing that if they triumph they will be just one game away, when the final is played on May 18 in Sevilla, from not only winning a major trophy but also qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League. 80 minutes to KO: And now we have the Frankfurt line-up too. In 1976 they lost 4-2 to Anderlecht in the final. A real challenge ahead for West Ham, who are struggling to get a foothold in this game so far as the Germans dominate possession. They'll be hoping for a similar result to this tie, though a different outcome in the final. "It has worked for them well and we have to be ready to deal with." His shot is saved by Areola, but Kamada is on to the rebound and taps it home from practically on the line. It had been coming and West Ham are level. 25 mins: It has been a terrific response from West Ham but they cannot afford to let their guard down. Warning signs for the Bundesliga side though they show their danger on the break as Kostic races away after Bowen loses possession but his final ball to Borre is wayward. 47 mins: Frankfurt have lost all four of their previous ties with English sides, most recently against Chelsea in the Europa League semi-finals in 2019. Despite still having a mathematical, but slim, chance of finishing in the top four, David Moyes signalled his intention to prioritise the Europa League by making a number of changes in Sunday's 1-0 domestic loss at Chelsea.

CHRIS SUTTON reckons Rangers are still "well in" the Europa League semi-final tie against RB Leipzig despite a first-leg defeat.

"A moment of brilliance decided the game from Angelino late on. But, the Celtic hero did reserve special praise for the winning goal as he insisted it was a "moment of brilliance" from the Spanish full-back. And despite a strong display from Rangers, a late volley from Angelino earned a lead for Leipzig. The full-back slammed home first-time from the edge of the box with five minutes left.

West Ham v Eintracht Frankfurt: Europa League semi-final, first leg ... (The Guardian)

Minute-by-minute report: Will West Ham continue their dream run and take a lead to Germany? Find out with Rob Smyth.

With Craig Dawson likely to be the only recognised centre-back available, David Moyes will probably go with the extra protection of a back three. David Moyes, ostensibly admired but still insidiously disparaged, doesn’t get nearly enough credit for creating what is surely, with a respectful nod to the Paolo Di Canio era, the best West Ham team since the Boys of 86. This is a great piece on Yeboah from the archive. (Don’t play silly buggers and start talking about the 1999 Intertoto Cup, not on a night like tonight.) And they haven’t played in a European semi-final since 1975-76, when - of all the gin joints - they beat Eintracht Frankfurt before losing to Anderlecht in a pulsating final. This has been a terrific response from West Ham, and inevitably the goal came from a high-class set piece. And yet my favourite moment is when he decided to climb atop a pile of guys in Munich. The bad stuff is always more memorable innit.” But if you want charm, romance, great stories and a refreshing lack of entitlement, the Europa League is where it’s at. The ball deflects off a West Ham defender and away from Borre. In the end he takes a touch and is dispossessed by Hinteregger. Antonio had very little time, but it was still a chance. 35 min Knauff, the 20-year-old on loan from Dortmund, looks a player. Cresswell stretches between Knauff and Areola to make a desperate, brilliant tackle, but Knauff is able to collect the loose ball. Borre runs 40 yards and then angles a superb through pass to Knauff, charging infield from the right.

West Ham's exhilarating Europa League run has lifted expectations ... (iNews)

Both sets of supporters were determined to make the most of a rare European semi-final but the visitors did enough to secure a first leg lead.

That is almost as true for Frankfurt as it is for West Ham, who after winning the Uefa Cup in 1980 had to wait 39 years to be back on the big stage when reaching this stage of the Europa League. No surprise then that both sets of supporters were eager to make the most of it. A major trophy hasn’t felt this close in decades; the prospect of winning one is as intoxicating as it is terrifying.

They deserved their goal and West Ham really are on the back foot here. West Ham needed some impetus to get back in this game and their man off the bench has definitely offered that. West Ham trying to build some late pressure but nothing comes from the resulting corner. That is exactly what Frankfurt did as they set their stall out from the off with a flowing passing move that got them in to West Ham's penalty area. West Ham now know they must win next Thursday in Germany to have any chance of going through. They had survived West Ham's comeback and equaliser to begin the second half still level.

West Ham let historic Europa League night slip past as Eintracht ... (ESPN)

It should have been a historic night in London. Instead, West Ham ceded advantage to a Eintracht Frankfurt side that again made its presence felt.

West Ham can avoid that fate in the second leg next week in Germany, but they have to cope with the occasion better than they did here. Instead of this being a famous night in West Ham's modern-day history, they have the ignominious honour of becoming just the third side to lose a Europa League semifinal first leg at home. "I don't know if it is the level -- the level of the games go up and maybe we don't quite have the quality at times required to be at this level," Moyes said. There was a lack of intensity in their defending, while going forward they never hit the exhilarating heights that have got them into this position. Moyes made six changes in West Ham's previous outing at Chelsea in an effort to keep preserve energy levels for this but they still rallied far too late in the piece. After almost 15 minutes of stabilising themselves in front of a capacity crowd fearing the worst, West Ham did improve.

Europa League: West Ham can take lessons into Eintracht Frankfurt ... (Daily Mail)

West Ham's hopes of reaching a first European final for 46 years were dented in their 2-1 defeat at home to Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night.

And all the pressure will be on the hosts in next week's decider. An early leveller would spark life back into the Hammers, yet they need to be much more precise and clinical to make that happen. It was not only the start of each half when Frankfurt posed West Ham problems, nevertheless. And after a 1-1 draw against Lyon, Moyes' men blitzed their way to a swaggering 3-0 win out in France to reach the last four. Keeping Frankfurt at bay will make things much easier in the second leg, as only a goal would be required to send the tie to extra-time and a 2-0 win would be enough to book their place in the final. The Hammers got off to the worst start possible in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie, falling a goal behind inside the first minute when Ansgar Knauff headed home after 49 seconds.
