“It took us 59 minutes and 59 seconds to get the goal we needed, but it was a fun game. “I wouldn’t say it was a meaningless game for us, but we’re out of the playoffs and we’re just playing for pride,” Bonino said. For Barabanov, it was his 29th assist of the year. “It’s a great story for us and I know I’ve never seen the room as happy and as joyful.” The Sharks’ rivalry with the Golden Knights was at an apex in 2018 and 2019. “I got a bounce off the boards and just ripped it,” Meier said. Jaycob Megna took control of a puck that came back to the blue and fired it back toward the net. However, the Sharks have not beaten the Golden Knights since Nov. 21, 2019, when San Jose had Aaron Dell as its starting goalie and Pete DeBoer as its coach. “I don’t think you could draw it up any better,” Boughner said. It also dented Vegas’ postseason hopes, something the Sharks were motivated to do. He approached Vegas goalie Logan Thompson slowly, quickly went forehand to backhand, and tucked it into the open net. “Just comfortable with it.

What Happened to the Vegas Golden Knights? (The Hockey News)

After blowing a lead and eventually losing to the lowly San Jose Sharks in a shootout Sunday, the Vegas Golden Knights hovered where they've been for a ...

In three of their past six games, Vegas has allowed four or more goals. This is the time of season in which teams are ratcheting up their defensive play, but the Golden Knights are losing control in their play without the puck. What’s worse – if Vegas does miss the playoffs entirely or goes out meekly in Round One, they’re locked into this roster, for better or worse, for the 2022-23 campaign. The Stanley Cup playoffs are about peaking at 5-on-5 play, but the Golden Knights haven’t inspired much confidence if they do go up a man or down a man in the post-season. Head coach Peter DeBoer needs to find solutions on the special teams, or their playoff experience this year could be especially short. In their past eight games, the Golden Knights have allowed 27 goals. In addition, veteran defenseman Alec Martinez has appeared in only 22 games, and starting goalie Robin Lehner has been dealing with a knee injury for a lengthy stretch and was rumored to have been on the verge of shutting down his season to have surgery.

What needs to happen in order for the Vegas Golden Knights to ... (Knights on Ice)

Vegas, Nashville, Dallas and Vancouver all have a game in hand over Los Angeles, but the Kings need just one point to clinch the third slot in the Pacific ...

Even if Vegas beat Chicago and St. Louis in regulation, the Golden Knights could finish the season with a maximum of 94 points, 35 regulation wins and 40 regulation or overtime wins. If Vegas wins in regulation, the Golden Knights would have 92 points in 80 games and would trail Dallas (93) by one point. Considering Dallas finishes its regular season against Arizona and Anaheim, it’s safe to assume the Stars will win at least one of those games, which would give them 96 points, the maximum point total Vegas can reach. In that scenario, Dallas would have 95 points. That’s assuming Vegas beats Chicago and St. Louis in regulation, of course. If Dallas beats Vegas in extra time, the Stars would have 95 points in 80 games and would hold a four-point edge over the Golden Knights (91). Vegas could finish with a maximum of 95 points, so the Golden Knights would need the Stars to lose both of its final games in regulation or would need Nashville to lose all three of its games in regulation, thus finishing with 94 points. One regulation win for Nashville also would do the trick, as the Predators would have 96 points, 36 regulation wins and 42 regulation and overtime wins, thus beating Vegas on the second tiebreaker since the Golden Knights can finish with a maximum of 96 points, 36 regulation wins and 41 regulation and overtime wins.* If the first four tiebreakers aren’t sufficient, goal differential is the next factor to be considered. The first tiebreaker is regulation wins. Nashville already has 94 points, 35 regulation wins and 41 regulation and overtime wins. That means that if Dallas were to win one of its final two games (in any fashion) and simply make it to overtime in the other (thus earning three points in its final two games of the season for a total of 97), Vegas would not be able to finish higher than Dallas. Vegas and Dallas would then have two games remaining; if the Golden Knights were able to pull even with the Stars by earning at least one more point than Dallas in the final two games, they would win the tiebreaker.

Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars Go Head-To-Head Tuesday For ... (Forbes)

With less than a week to go in the NHL's 2021-22 regular season, a high-stakes game with major playoff implications is set to go down on Tuesday night.

After sitting out two games before his no-trade clause was verified and the situation was resolved, Dadonov has 14 points in 13 games since returning to the Vegas lineup, including two game-winning goals. Pavelski remains the Stars’ leading scorer and has signed a one-year contract extension for next season. This Friday will mark the last day of regular-season action for the NHL’s playoff-bound teams. Dadonov had a 10-team no-trade clause which included Anaheim but somehow, it was believed that clause had been voided before Dadonov was acquired by Vegas from the Ottawa Senators last July. Last week, ESPN and other outlets reported that Lehner was finished for the season and would be undergoing knee surgery. In 2020, well-travelled veteran Anton Khudobin played hero in net for the Stars after Ben Bishop was sidelined with an injury which has now proven to be career-ending. The 23-year-old has never played an NHL game. Plenty of other drama has also swirled around the club. If the Stars win Tuesday’s game within 60 minutes, they’ll move to 95 points and lock in a return to the playoffs, after missing out by four points last year. He has 12 goals and 21 points in 31 games. The two teams will got head-to-head in Dallas on Tuesday (8:30 p.m. ET). The club’s management, led by president of hockey operations George McPhee and general manager Kelly McCrimmon, has never hesitated to go after the biggest stars who become available.
