Red Sox vs. Blue Jays: Prediction, picks, prop bets, how to watch via ... (DraftKings Nation)

We go over how to watch Tuesday's game between the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays and make some picks.

He finished with 2 hits last night and had success against Gausman last week, hitting 2-for-3 against the Blue Jays starter. Toronto has a substantial edge in pitching in this matchup with one of the top throwers in the American League against a struggling Pivetta, whose career numbers have not been all that impressive. The game takes place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, and will only be available on local TV or through an MLB.tv subscription. The Blue Jays broke an eighth-inning tie on Monday night when Bo Bichette smashed a grand slam. He went up against the Blue Jays in his last time out, allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits and 4 walks over 4 innings of work in a 6-1 loss.

The Blue Jays covered this mark in both Pivetta’s start and Gausman’s outing last week. Guerrero over 0.5 RBI (+135): This price point isn’t quite on the level of $1 hot dogs at Rogers Centre, but it’s pretty good for a guy who drove in 111 runs a season ago. George Springer has reached safely in each of his past five starts, and Bo Bichette has a .500 on-base percentage in 18 plate appearances against Pivetta. Gausman, on the other hand, allowed one run while scattering seven hits (all singles) a day later. Boston’s Nick Pivetta was shelled when he faced the Blue Jays six days ago, while Toronto’s Kevin Gausman went eight strong innings against the Red Sox last week. At such an early point in the season, a deluge of divisional matchups can be a gift for bettors.

Red Sox vs Blue Jays Picks and Predictions: Jays Have All-Around ... (Covers.com)

MLB odds, picks, and predictions for Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays on April 26. MLB betting free picks for moneyline and Over/Under.

The Blue Jays have a stellar 2.65 ERA in relief, while the Red Sox are slightly above average with a 3.50 ERA. There are juiced 8.5 totals available at some books, but they’ll likely be off the board soon and therefore we will use Under 8 as the prediction. Still, Pivetaa was solid in 2021, and his 3.81 xERA and 4.53 ERA paint the picture that he may have even been a tad unlucky. He’s already faced this Red Sox lineup once and had no issues, allowing only one earned over eight straight innings his last time out. In a year where the baseballs seem dead and low-scoring affairs happen across the league every night, Pivetta has found a way to an ERA over 10. The Blue Jays are 5-0 in their last five games as a favorite. The pitching advantage in this matchup lies with the Jays. Gausman is a very solid starter and has come into his own over the last two seasons. Blue Jays Perhaps a day of rest Monday will prove beneficial for Story, who has a .592 OPS in his first 12 games in Boston. He faces the Red Sox in his last outing and dominated, allowing only one earned while striking out eight over eight innings. Things may turn around for Pivetta (he was decent in 2021, after all), but Tuesday offers a tough matchup against a terrific Toronto lineup. Nick Pivetta (0-3, 10.03 ERA): It’s been an awful start to the season for Pivetta, who’s been shelled in each of his three starts.

Game #18 Preview: Pivetta vs Gausman (Red Sox @ Blue Jays) (Bluebird Banter)

Kevin Gausman will make his fourth start of the season, and second consecutive against the Red Sox. As you'll probably remember, his last start against these ...

He held the lowly Diamondbacks to just 3 hits and nothing more over his 9 innings, striking out 10 and earning the win in the Dodgers’ 4-0 victory. For his efforts, Smith gets the WPA King trophy with a .651 WPA in the Mets’ 5-2 win over the Cardinals. And when you read “2 run single”, I hope your mind went to this: Cavan Biggio went on the COVID-IL yesterday, and I would imagine they’re keeping him out for a day or two longer, at a minimum. His Angels rode his bat all the way to the 3-0 win over the Guardians. He went 8 shutout innings with 6 hits allowed and no walks, then came back out for the the 9th, threw one pitch that allowed a Story single, and that was the end of the day for Gausman. Facing a team in back to back outings can certainly be difficult, so hopefully Gausman is able to find success again. Pivetta brings an 0-3 record with a 10.33 ERA into action today, certainly not the results he and the Red Sox were hoping for out of him after he put up a respectable 4.53 ERA over 155 innings in his first full season with them last year. Both of his home runs came in 2 strike counts against Shane Bieber, so he definitely earned himself that award. In his 11.2 innings this year, Pivetta is having a lot of problems. Zack Collins caught Gausman’s gem last week, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that happen again today. Pivetta’s latest start also came against the Blue Jays, and it didn’t go well for him. But he did have flashes of good in that outing. That outing ran Gausman’s season numbers to 1-1 with a 2.89 ERA over 18.2 innings.

Devers over 1.5 bases (+100): The Red Sox slugger has cashed this prop in nine of 16 games. The shortstop also has a strong record against Eovaldi (5-for-15 with a home run and just one strikeout), plus the benefit of Guerrero’s bat to drive him in. Rogers Centre is also a top-10 ballpark for right-handed home run hitters. He also doesn’t have a negative run value against any pitch. Blue Jays hitters that can handle his elite velocity should thrive, while players with even the slightest bat-speed deficiency could be in for a long day against the flamethrower. That’s the best mark in the majors among batters with at least 75 plate appearances resolved on those pitches.

Pre-Series Notes: All eyes on the Restricted List as the struggling ... (Blue Jays Nation)

The Blue Jays will host the struggling, shorthanded Red Sox in Toronto as Boston has multiple players unable to enter Canada.

Manoah has gone six innings in all three of his starts this season and he’s allowed only four earned runs. Wacha has 12 strikeouts and seven walks through 14 1/3 innings and is getting a lot of help from a .114 opponent batting average on balls in play, well below the .313 figure he posted last season. Ross Stripling will make his third start of the season as Hyun Jin Ryu is still on the shelf. Pivetta’s season thus far can be summarized by the fact that his ERA went down after the Blue Jays tagged him for five runs over four innings last week. This game was absolutely wild, as it also featured Marcus Stroman hitting a pinch-hit double and then scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th. But given the way things are going for both Boston and Toronto, and based on what we saw at Fenway Park last week, there’s no reason to expect anything less than taking three of four from a struggling opponent.

That means before April 20, Bogaerts was 1 of 16 against Berrios in his career. Berrios has traditionally got close to 50% of his batted balls on the ground; that’s a little above MLB average. Beyond that, Eovaldi does an excellent job throwing strikes, so you won’t have to worry about too many needless baserunners due to walks. I don’t think he’ll be so fortunate this time around. Eovaldi was lucky the last time these two faced off. It’s difficult to imagine that this is where Eovaldi will take a step forward. This is so hard to handicap because you have a pitcher in Eovaldi, who is due for positive regression. Our best bet is our favourite pick across all markets. He only gave up one run a week ago to this Red Sox team, but it came at the expense of eight hits. Garrett Whitlock will start for Boston Red Sox on Thursday vs. Blue ... (masslive.com)

Whitlock struck out seven batters in four innings Saturday night against the Rays.

It’s unclear if Whitlock will remain in the rotation on a long-term basis. Two factors -- Rich Hill’s stint on the bereavement list and Tanner Houck being ineligible to pitch in Toronto because he’s unvaccinated -- have caused the Red Sox to reshuffle their rotation in recent days. Manager Alex Cora has used Whitlock in a high-leverage, roving relief role throughout the first couple weeks of the season and may choose that route again once Houck returns and the rotation is at full strength.

Charlie DiSturco previews Monday's MLB game between the Red Sox and Blue Jays, including betting odds and a prediction.

But over his three starts, Berrios has given up a .301 xBA, and his xERA of 7.70 ranks in the bottom six percent of all pitchers. While his curveball has been effective (.147 xBA), hitters have keyed in on his hard stuff and taken advantage. On the other side, Eovaldi’s home run issues are unsustainable and I think we see him limit hard contact tonight. While Eovaldi has struggled to open the season, there’s no reason to be worried with the 32-year-old. That’s a number that should positively regress in the coming starts, as his HR/9 sits just under one. Eovaldi’s last outing came against these Blue Jays, where he pitched 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball on seven hits.

Blue Jays to score in the first inning (+240): As long as Toronto’s lineup begins with the names George Springer, Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., this isn’t a bad bet.
