Toronto (51-20-6) has won four in a row and all but wrapped up second place in the Atlantic Division, which will give the Maple Leafs home ice in at least the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Leafs are 8-1-1 over the past ten and playing their best hockey at the right time. Talented winger Nikita Kucherov (19 G, 33 A) has also gotten hot, scoring eight goals in the past nine games. Toronto will be a little easier to defend if Matthews isn’t in the lineup, but not much. Despite their struggles, Tampa Bay captain Steven Stamkos (33 G, 54 A) has seven points over the past three games and is one point from becoming the franchise’s all-time leading scorer. Tampa Bay (46-22-8) has also clinched a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the Lightning are stumbling heading into the postseason.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Tampa Bay Lightning – Game #78 Preview ... (Maple Leafs Hot Stove)

Gunning for a fifth-straight win, the Maple Leafs begin a three-games-in-four-days road trip with a possible preview of their round-one matchup against the ...

I liked that we got on top of them early, were able to score, and played with the lead a lot in the game. They’ve been a hell of a hockey team that’s run into some bad breaks come the Spring. It seems that, for whatever reason, they haven’t gotten over the hump yet, but they’ve got a team that definitely can. They had some great opportunities in that game to go ahead, and we got some great saves that allowed us to stick around and then pull away from there. That was one game for certain that we didn’t want Jack to play. For me, I see a hell of a hockey team. We got some really good saves from Jack, and that allowed us to stay even in the game. For the Lightning, Andrei Vasilevskiy is expected to start, but it has not been officially confirmed as of yet. I think we had a similar type of mindset when we were in here not too long ago. You think about that today, but at the same time, as much as there is that potential, we’re focused on the fact that it’s a regular season game on the road here against a team that we had success against the last time we were here. Mired in a mediocre stretch of form dating back to March 1 (12-11-2), the Lightning have been following an ugly trend in their games against playoff opposition as of late. The Leafs did not practice yesterday, so there won’t be much of an indication on the lines before warmups. An abundance of caution continues to be the description from Sheldon Keefe.

The Maple Leafs have scored four-plus goals in four consecutive games and 11 of their past 13. That meshes well with the Maple Leafs, who’ve scored and allowed a third-period marker in seven of their past 10 games. Maple Leafs over 3.5 goals (+100): Look for Toronto to take advantage of Vasilevskiy’s struggles, even if Auston Matthews remains sidelined. Its .538 win percentage in this setting is noticeably its worst of any amount of days between games. One other thing worth mentioning is how the Lightning have fared in games on one day of rest. Toronto currently occupies second place in the Atlantic Division while Tampa Bay clings to third with just over a week left on the NHL schedule.

Tampa just isn’t driving play at 5-on-5 at their normal levels. While the Lightning has earned themselves the benefit of the doubt with their back-to-back titles, it is a bit confounding to see the Bolts post a 50.3% expected goals rate over their last 25 games. Toronto has gone 11-1-1 in its last 13 games and has a +24 goal differential in that span. New customers only. Tampa Bay is currently mired in a 9-10-2 stretch with an even goal differential. “To me, it was clear that the game meant more to them than it did to us. • Well over 2,000 folks responded to this poll I posted on the Maple Leafs’ ideal Round 1 opponent. “They played a hard game; they did a lot of a lot of things right. “We know what we can do to be successful,” Hedman reminded. unless they do better in the playoffs," Cooper said. I think they're as good a team as we've played all year, but they'd probably judge [things] more on how they do in the spring." “This was a one-off. The organization that once tried to lure him away in free agency. We've been together a decade, so I've watched a lot of his points. Andrei Vasilevsky, the most bona fide Number 1 in the league, was dialled in. The Bolts’ explosive power-play clicked thrice in frightening fashion. None of their stars appear in line for individual trophies, and they won’t claim home-ice advantage in Round 1.

Toronto Maple Leafs can't score against Lightning, Stamkos sets ... (Pension Plan Puppets)

You know that thing where the Toronto Maple Leafs are really good against playoff bound teams? They forgot about that. The Maple Leafs get a power play ...

Mikheyev and Killorn each go to the box. Mikheyev tries again and scores, ruining the shut out. Anthony Cirelli also goes to the box for his part, giving the Leafs some more time with to score a power play goal. I don’t know why it wasn’t 3 on 3 when each team had two in the box, but I hate the minimum 3 guys on the ice thing. Post-goal, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare gets hit by a shot in the back of the knee while being hooked by Jason Spezza. Too much happens at once. They’re playing in between that team and the one that was beaten by Buffalo recently. But, those aren’t goals and the Lightning take the lead four minutes into the second, when a tipped Erik Cernak shot goes into the net. No power play goal for the Leafs once again, and we’re still tied at zeroes despite the Leafs doubling the Lightning in shots and shot attempts. He's never obliged me before so I don't think I'm the one that's soft." "We've never dropped the gloves. The Lightning get a couple of nice chances on the Leafs net that gets the crowd on it’s feet but Erik Källgren is on top of his game tonight. Kerfoot talked to the trainer about his foot, but he’s playing through it.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning square off at Amalie Arena on Thursday in a matchup that has no shortage of star power.

The superstar has tickled twine in three straight games, four of his last five, and seven of his last nine. Kucherov anytime goal (+150): Kucherov has become a player that bettors should absolutely want to target right now. He’s also skating on the team’s top power-play and that unit has scored in back-to-back games. Marner has rifled off three shots or more in 15 of his last 19 games. The winger has been absolutely buzzing in the offensive zone lately as he’s racked up 11 goals and 33 points over his last 18 contests. The pregame narrative: There are a number of options to target from either side when looking at the player prop market, even with Auston Matthews potentially out.

"Second, it's a good lesson for us going forward to understand just the way we need to play. "I really like a lot of the things we did, but don't read too much into it, it's just one game," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. You get a little sample of how hard you need to play and how well you need to play to be able to beat a team of that quality when they're playing at that level." But I'm super excited and I feel like I have a lot of hockey left to play." "To me it was clear that the game meant more to them tonight than it did to us, and it showed in how they played and how they competed," Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe said. "I've been fortunate that I kind of came in at the right time and things have gone well for us recently. "I told him I'm definitely keeping the puck because he's got 600 or 700 more points to come," Stamkos said. "To do it at home against the team I grew up idolizing. I will definitely cherish this moment for a long time." It was just amazing experience for me to have." St. Louis narrated a congratulatory tribute video for Stamkos shortly after the goal.
