Embiid fouled Anunoby with 26.2 seconds left, and scored on one of his two free throws while a livid Sixers coach Doc Rivers raged at the official. A COVID outbreak in March of last season saw them tumble down the standings to finish 12th, the only year they've missed the playoffs in the past nine seasons. Philadelphia turned the ball over just four times in all of Game 1. The quarter had some heated moments. Precious Achiuwa chipped in with 20 points for the Raptors, who were missing NBA rookie of the year finalist Scottie Barnes for the second straight game. "It's tough for sure," VanVleet said of the loss. "Got to stand up, look ourselves in the mirror, get some rest, recover and go lace 'em up again. Harden's free throw with 49.7 seconds left tied the game. "Obviously we know what happened a couple of years ago, I just knew coming in it's always a tough place to play at, especially in the playoffs, they've got great fans, really loud. Gary Trent Jr., scored a career playoff high 24 points despite fighting an illness the past week. It felt great, but the job ... job's not done." "Obviously if we pull that thing out, we've got ourselves a series and instead, you've got yourself a really, really deep hole to dig out of."

Precious Achiuwa Highlights The Importance of Playoff Reps, but a ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Toronto Raptors are now facing a series sweep following Joel Embiid's miraculous game-winner as the Philadelphia 76ers take a commanding 3-0 series ...

He grabbed two steals in the first half and got to work with his classic pull-up game, nailing the kind of jumpers Toronto so desperately needed from him earlier in the series. When the Raptors needed buckets in the second half, Trent repeatedly stepped up. "He got a little more aggressive and he made a lot of tough shots. "He looked really confident with the ball," Nurse said of Anunoby who lead the Raptors with 26 points on 8-for-18 shooting. Instead, the Raptors were playing disciplined, holding the 7-foot center to just five points on 2-for-5 shooting with four turnovers in the first half. This is why he wanted this young team to get into the playoffs and feel these moments. Even on the final bucket, though, a Hail Mary off-balanced three from Embiid to redeem himself after Kawhi Leonard famously sent him off the court crying back in 2019, Achiuwa was there in Embiid's face and making life difficult. And while Embiid certainly went off in the second half, it was no fault of Achiuwa's who was in his face, pestering the 76ers' superstar to take contested jumpers way outside his comfort zone. "Don't want him to live in that play for sure because he was really, really effective and forceful out there tonight," added Raptors coach Nick Nurse. "That's just what happens, man. He was nearly perfect from the field, with timely buckets on cuts to the rim and a pair of three-pointers off the bench. He’ll lose some sleep over the free throws as we all do, we’ve all been there, but we got to bounce back and get better from it." But the 22-year-old center had maybe the best game of his career.

TORONTO — Raptors rookie Scottie Barnes could be close to a return, but it won't be for Game 3 of Toronto's series with Philadelphia.

He brings a lot to the table with his size and his IQ and just the way he plays. He had four fouls with zero points over nine minutes before calling it a night. Barnes, who averaged 15.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists a game in the regular season, can play virtually every position. So whenever he is ready, we'll take him back for sure." "He’s been able to do some things, but not to the level of letting him go tonight. I would certainly assume he’ll be ready for the next one (Game 4 on Saturday)."

The guy has one skill and one skill only and yet we’re not able to deal with him. Maybe this playoff series is a comment on that, and gives management enough data to make some offseason moves that will SHOCK THE WORLD BABY!!! Doc Rivers was shouting in their ears and would’ve kneed all three in the groin if they had. Tapered in the second half but still maintained a high compete level and did well on the many rotations he was asked to make. It’s accentuated by a roster which has major depth issues, but at the very least you expect your star players to show up in what is essentially an elimination game. It was a little weird to see him come and check Harden on several possessions in the first half, with a low success rate. Nobody on the inbounder for the Embiid three is weird, but if it’s Embiid catching on the other end, does it matter as much? Did well to respond to Philly’s zone too by flashing Siakam and Precious to the middle and having them pick out perimeter options. Got the start and had a legitimate PnR to start the game which added a different dimension to the Raptors opening sequences. He improved his challenge in one-on-one defensive situations and his darting in and out of space helped bust the Philly zone early on. Bailed the Raptors out of many possessions that weren’t going anywhere, and led the team in offensive rebounds. And why is he not handling the ball and playing point forward more?

No team in NBA history has ever lost a series after building a 3-0 lead.

Embiid (33 points, 13 rebounds) led the way for Philadelphia in Game 3, but he also got his fair share of help, as he has all series. But while the big fella was obviously happy with the outcome of Game 3, he's also acutely aware that the series isn't over. The shot had to be especially deflating for the Raptors after they had played their best game of the series, by far. The Sixers never had a single lead in the game until overtime. The Raptors had a 10-point lead after one quarter, and they maintained that lead heading into the halftime locker room. Game 3 between the Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors blessed us with an epic ending.

Unfortunately, Anunoby’s late-game heroics were unable to salvage a win as they did in the Boston bubble series. With two more of the hypothetical four remaining games left in Philly, things are looking fairly grim for Toronto. An Embiid dagger to seal the win was enough to give Philly a commanding 3-0 lead.
