Feel Good Oilers Fans! (Oilers Nation)

Feel Good Oilers Fans! April 20, 2022, 7:00 AM | Tyler Yaremchuk. If you would have told me back on ...

But if they can get just average performances from both of those areas, then their forward group and powerplay could very well carry them on a run. The chances of the Oilers’ offence being shut down are very slim. They’ve also been getting much more production from players like Derek Ryan and Warren Foegele since Jay Woodcroft took over as Head Coach. Could the offence dry up if McDavid and Draisaitl can’t produce? Would it be foolish to expect that this year’s Oilers team can be the one that doesn’t let down its fanbase? I’m here to say that there is no reason to feel pessimistic. Well, honestly it’s pretty easy to be pessimistic about this team. Just 89 days ago, I was laying on a couch in our offices yelling about how we were about to go through another season without the playoffs. Go subscribe to The Nation Network on YouTube so you don’t miss it! There was a group of us who had a long talk about how boring our jobs were going to get when the Oilers were eventually eliminated. At that point, the team had just come off a nine-day break and it looked like Ken Holland was just going to keep rolling with Dave Tippett for the remainder of the season. When the postseason begins on either May 10th, 11th, or 12th, there will be a game at Rogers Place.

“I know him a little bit just from being around the game and he’s a great guy. “That pairing of Keith and (Bouchard) has been very good for us and I’m proud of how far they’re coming,” Woodcroft said after the game. Evander Kane converted a pass from McDavid for his 17th goal of the season. “I think our team is trending in the right direction, but I don’t think we’ve played to our full potential yet.” “I thought we simplified it early in the game and allowed ourselves to assert our will on the other team.” ”Up and down the lineup, guys feel good about their own game and the team’s game,” Oilers captain Connor McDavid said after the game.

Dallas Stars Game Day: 4/20/22 @ Edmonton Oilers (The Hockey Writers)

The Dallas Stars continue their current three-game road trip against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night. They are 0-1-0 so far.

“He’ll bounce back,” Bowness said of Oettinger. “We have faith in Jake, we have faith in Scott. A couple of bad goals? “And you don’t win at this time of year with half your team playing and the other half not playing well. He has been exactly what Dallas needed with the injuries to Ben Bishop, Anton Khudobin, and Braden Holtby throughout the season. Jake Oettinger did not have himself a good game on Monday in Vancouver. The 23-year-old netminder allowed four goals on 19 shots and was pulled midway through the second period. Nashville secured a win on Tuesday night, so two points for the Stars would keep pace with the Preds for that top wild card. The Stars have also earned points in nine of their last 10 games against the Oilers.

Edmonton Oilers Vs Dallas Stars: Pre-Game (Oil On Whyte)

The Edmonton Oilers are home at Rogers Place in Edmonton to take on the Dallas Stars in a NHL regular season game hoping to get the win.

I expect this game to have a playoff vibe to it as both teams really want the 2 points up for grabs. So far this season in the two games played the Stars have won both games. In order to do that the Edmonton Oilers must first lock in their spot as a playoff team. If the Oilers can get to the playoffs riding a hot streak that would be ideal. The Oilers are 8-1-1 in their last 10. It looks like this may be the first time in the existence of their franchise that Vegas will miss the playoffs.

The Stars were still without Vladislav Namestnikov (lower body). ... Edmonton had its entire regular lineup available. At 37, Dallas forward Joe Pavelski is the oldest player to be leading his team in scoring. "It's playoffs, they have already started for us, so it's obviously disappointing because every game his huge for us," Dallas forward Radek Faksa said. The Oilers made it 4-2 with two minutes to play in the stanza as an Evan Bouchard shot ticked off of Puljujarvi on the way into the net, just his second goal in the last 16 games. "I think guys are confident right now," McDavid said.

GDB 77.0 Wrap Up: Closing in on Clinchmas, Oilers dominant in 5-2 ... (Oilers Nation)

In Woodcroft We Trust. Final Score: 5-2 Oilers. Is there anything better than watching a meaningful Oilers game when the sun is still out?

- Jason Robertsonpulled the Stars back into the game (2-1) with a goal from the slot after his shot rode up Kulak’s stick and into the top corner. Unfortunately, Smith wasn’t able to tack on a third straight shutout, but the good news is that he played very well once again, and he rode that performance to a seventh straight victory. Smith finished the night with 34 saves and a .944 save%. His shutout streak, unfortunately, came to an end at 144:39 minutes which is good for the 7th longest in franchise history. As much as the boys had enough of a lead to feel comfortable, we had already seen how quickly the Stars could respond with two of their own and that suggested to me that this third period needed an all-out effort to ensure that we locked in these points. - After picking up shutouts in his last two games, it was no surprise to see Mike Smithback between the pipes for a third consecutive start. Instead, they spent much of the final period chasing the puck and scrambling to make anything happen and those spinning wheels allowed the Oilers to coast to a comfortable 5-2 victory. Up by two goals with 20 minutes to play, the Oilers had to avoid another lull that would give the Stars even the slightest chance of coming back for a second time. At both ends of the ice, the Oilers were as sharp as we’ve seen them with their puck choices and Dallas really couldn’t come up with much of an answer for what they were doing. Heading into the second period, the Oilers needed to keep the gas pedal to the floor and do what they could to get the next goal. Unfortunately, it wasn’t all good times as the Stars were able to get one of the goals back, but all-in-all, it was a pretty damned fine start to the hockey game. Mix in the added bonus that the game was against the Dallas Stars — a team I’ve hated since the 90s after all those playoffs series — and you’ve got the makings of a fine little Wednesday. What I didn’t expect, however, was that the Oilers would come out like a house on fire, completely steamrolling the Stars for the better part of the first period to the tune of a two-goal lead. The bad news was that the Stars had the exact same idea and it was them that were able to score the next one and even the game up at two apiece.

- The Oilers record moves to 45-26-6 and 96 points on the year! - Connor McDavid came roaring back to retake the scoring lead with two more points tonight. Great to see him break out of a scoring slump as well. Zach Hyman and Zack Kassian had a few very good looks on the net in the first 10 minutes but weren’t able to convert. The crowd might have been louder for the hit than any of Edmonton’s four goals to this point. They had long periods of play one each period where they absolutely dominated the Stars in the offensive end. Edmonton continued their high pace of play in the third. It wouldn’t stay that way, a few shifts later Evan Bouchard sent a point shot that deflected off Jesse Puljujarvi’s leg and into the net. Edmonton up to an early lead as they were all over the Starts in the offensive end. The Oilers got caught on too many men call at the midway point of the period that would cost them. Jason Robertson ended Mike Smith’s shutout streak as he slapped home a shot that deflected off Brett Kulak’s stick and into the top end of the net. Evander Kane, Derek Ryan, Jesse Puljujarvi, Zach Hyman, and Connor McDavid had the goals for the Oilers. Mike Smith was sublime in the Edmonton net stopping 34 of the 36 shots he faced.

Edmonton Oilers keep foot on the gas, run over Dallas Stars (Sault Star)

For more years than fans in Edmonton care to remember, springtime, the Oilers and the Dallas Stars was a painful combination.

There were no surprises in the third period as Edmonton shut it down and closed out the win. “We were playing pretty good the whole game,” said Keith. “Maybe the first bit of the second period they were able to get some plays off the rush. I don’t think I’ve played with, or seen anybody, who moves the puck as well as him.” “I think that our third and fourth goals were classic examples of what we’re working towards. That’s going to be the real test going forward.” “They’re a good team and they pushed back and I liked our response.

Coaching change, improved goaltending have saved Oilers' season (NHL)

With Jay Woodcroft behind the bench and some improved goaltending from Mike Smith the Edmonton Oilers finally look like a team with a chance to win.

The result was a team that would play at a playoff level when one of the two superstars was on the ice and play like a lottery team when they were not. The Oilers still have some flaws and question marks that will eventually need to be address in the offseason and beyond. When McDavid and Draisaitl played together, that was three different lines that were getting crushed on a nightly basis and the goals for and against numbers were dreadful. But over the past couple of weeks Smith has caught fire and is unbeaten in his past six starts with a pair of shutouts. The Oilers entered the season with the same goalie duo from a year ago in Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen. It was risky, curious, and not exactly ideal given how much goalie talent was available this offseason. Around the halfway point of the 2021-22 season it looked as if the Edmonton Oilers were on the verge of flushing another prime year of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl down the toilet.

I’m not going to say we took our foot off the gas, but we didn't have to play that desperate style of hockey.” McDavid answered with a three-point night against Dallas, but spoke afterwards like a guy who has moved on from focusing on individual trophies, in exchange for the one trophy that has eluded this franchise since 1990. We have been playing playoff hockey here for a while and I think maybe last year we were a little more comfortable in our position. We’ve gone through a lot and we’ve tried to learn a lot. Today, as they build towards their third straight second-place finish and playoff appearance under general manager Ken Holland, they are a team that has perhaps found the brake lever on excitement. EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers have, for some many years, been must-watch hockey in the regular season.

Vegas is three points back of the Kings and seven back of the Oilers. We’ve got to spend a little more time in their zone, got to slow them up in the neutral zone, and then we’ve got to end plays quicker in our zone. Edmonton is four points up on the L.A. Kings for second place in the Pacific Division and the Oilers have a game in hand. His save percentage on the season is now all the way up to .913. He could not have picked a better time to get hot. Only one non-80s Oilers team has reached that mark, the 2016-17 team. The Oilers outshot the Stars 49-to-36 in all situations and they were dominant in terms of possession with 72 shot attempts to Dallas’ 40. Our team is trending in the right direction, but as I’ve said the last couple of days, I don’t think we’ve played to our full potential yet.” – Jay Woodcroft. Despite blowing their lead, the Oilers didn’t allow the Stars to build on that momentum, as Zach Hyman and Jesse Puljujarvi scored in the second frame to restore the two-goal lead. Edmonton jumped out to an early lead as Evander Kane and Derek Ryan scored in the first half of the first period. The Oilers had 19 high-danger chances and they held Dallas to just five, including only one in the third period when the Stars were trailing by two goals. “This year we have had to fight for our lives.

4 Significant Stats From Oilers' 5-2 Win Against Stars - 4/20/22 (The Hockey Writers)

The Edmonton Oilers are now within two points of clinching a playoff spot thanks to production from Evan Bouchard and Connor McDavid.

Bouchard is also the youngest Oilers blueliner to have a 30-assist campaign since the Hall-of-Famer did it in 1983-84. Smith is providing the Oilers with stellar goaltending of late. Tommy Salo holds the Oilers’ record at 192:53, set in the 2000-01 season. Moreover, the Oilers move closer to officially punching their ticket to the postseason, with their magic number down to two. Brian is an Edmonton-based sports writer and broadcaster. The Oilers have just one regulation loss in 11 games since March 27.

Oilers' Woodcroft Gets Approval From McDavid & Agent (The Hockey Writers)

Connor McDavid's agent recently offered a glimpse into what the star player thinks of Edmonton Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft.

By him saying “yes” on a public platform, it’s the best indication that McDavid himself would like his new coach to stay, and be the one to take the team to the next level. I feel a contract extension should happen after the playoffs to avoid distraction, but hopefully, general manager Ken Holland has had discussions with Woodcroft to let him know his intention to bring him into the fold long-term. That said, waiting longer to sign him to a deal might risk a contract offer from other NHL teams after the season. In regards to the Woodcroft extension, Rishaug also tweeted that he felt the team will take a “wait and see” approach when it comes to re-signing their current head coach. When Woodcroft first joined the team, McDavid stated, “‘Woody’ is going to come in and put his touch on the group and put his touch on the team. Because of that, it’s hard to get a take on what truly goes on inside his mind.
