“We had a bunch of different ideas circulating among the writers,” Eid says, “and it just so happened we were like, ‘Hmm, there’s this sarin gas idea out there…,’ and it could be an interesting, organic way for Maggie to take some time off. This time, though, the FBI creatives opted to go with something a bit more dramatic. There are not only physical injuries but maybe some emotional ones, and that may affect how she sees the world and how she handles cases.” OA raced to the scene, and not a metal chair nor even several bullets could bust the door’s glass. SPOILER ALERT: Do not read if you have not watched “Fear Nothing,” the April 19 episode of “FBI.” “FBI” Is saying goodbye, once again, to Maggie.
During the April 26 episode, fans will see the “aftermath” of what happened to Maggie and how the team — OA in particular — is affected. “It gives you an opportunity to think of a new character possibly or a new dynamic or new partnerships, and to explore, whether permanently or temporarily, a different dynamic or different elements. During the episode, Maggie and OA (Zeeko Zaki) attempted to track down a man who is using deadly sarin gas — a poison with horrific results that OA has witnessed in his past. In real life, Peregrym approached showrunner Rick Eid with the news that she is expecting her second child. In the episode’s final moments, he sits at her bedside and lets her know that he needs her and doesn’t want to do this job without her — and receives a brief nod, assuring him that she’s still there. After hunting down the man responsible and killing him, Maggie gets trapped in a room where the gas has been released, causing her to pass out as OA tries without success to break in.
FBI delivered an intense twist for Maggie, and showrunner Rick Eid broke down why it happened and what follows for her.
His desperate search for a mask and determination to get through and save her just made her fate feel all the more uncertain. The showrunner explained why sarin gas was the choice to take Maggie out of commission: OA’s experience with sarin gas and palpable fear in the episode raised the stakes even before Maggie was trapped in a room with the leak, and he couldn’t even shoot his way through the glass. When the FBI was running out of time to prevent a sarin gas attack, Maggie and OA had to race into a booby-trapped building with no protective gear. While “Fear Nothing” was her last episode of the season, she will be back. Still, Maggie is in bad shape after being exposed to sarin gas, and there’s no 100% guarantee of a full recovery.
As Missy Peregrym goes on maternity leave, she and Zeeko Zaki put in spectacular performances.
Was it a conscious decision to tackle loss and the possibility of it this season? That’ll be front and center in episodes, seeing the impact of some of the things he’s been through coming to light in a current case. In the hospital scenes, hopefully it just supports this idea of family in the show and in 26 Fed and our main characters are there supporting her and then OA has his moment with her alone, and you just get to see how special their relationship and partnership really is. Throughout the whole episode, we just wanted to reinforce the idea, especially since Maggie was leaving, that these two really care about each other and they have a real relationship that exists beyond just 26 Fed, so I think towards the end, when she’s in the lab and trapped, we just wanted to see how important it was to OA to save her and the lengths he would go to and that he would ultimately risk his own life to do this. That leads to perhaps the most emotional scene of the series, as Maggie begs OA to get her out of there and he fights to do just that. We just started talking about it and thought it would be a good way to send her off.
