I think he will see it with minutes in the next matches.” “It’s hard decisions at the moment," continued Tuchel. "Maybe he feels these decisions are against him but for other players. It’s impressive because he overcame this kind of period where things felt a bit more difficult for him during the winter period. This will be his next steps in the next weeks. No. I don’t think we will rush this (Ben Chilwell return). Ben will now be in the transition to join academy training, to have team training but not on the physicality level like with us. Hopefully he can join our training at the end of the season but no matches on that level.

It gives an advantage to both sides heading into the derby between Chelsea and Arsenal on Wednesday night, with at least one of the two sides set to extend their lead over them. Owen says the Blues are back on top form and that the Gunners could be be in trouble after an awful run recently. Michael Owen says that Arsenal's decision to let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave the club in January could prove costly in the Mikel Arteta's quest for a place in the Champions League places. For Chelsea, they currently sit in an awkward position with the Blues all but guaranteed a top-four finish, but are too far behind the top two to be involved in a title race. Arsenal were thought to be in the driving seat just two weeks ago, but defeat in each of their last three games has completely altered proceedings. It comes after a horrific fortnight for Mikel Arteta's side that has completely changed the balance of the race for Champions League qualification. Arsenal are now three points off of the pace, with their clash with Chelsea representing a significant examination of their top-four credentials. The defeat means that the Gunners have fallen three points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the top four. Meanwhile, Antonio Conte’s side have a fairly kind run-in with a trip to Liverpool the only real cause for concern. "We're going to go there as always to win the match and that is going to be our intention tomorrow when we're at Stamford Bridge." “We want to play a physical game again, want to demand again from the team. Rest assured, we will be bringing you all of the build-up, team news and reaction from Stamford Bridge throughout the evening as the Gunners aim to re-establish themselves back in the Champions League race.

After four years in the wilderness, Arsenal are finally starting to show signs of restoring their values once more. This decision caused untold outrage from fans who saw the decision as little more than the Kroenkes trying to protect their own financial status. To all the Arsenal lovers take care of the values of the club. A home clash with Everton was marred by pre-match protests from the Emirates Stadium faithful who had come to the end of their tether with KSE's ownership. Many saw the Spaniard's message as a dig at the Kroenkes. That final passage, four years on, sticks out like a sore thumb with the ability to look at how the Gunners have fared since his departure.

Confidence is a huge thing in football, and for Arsenal, it's surely starting to wane after three successive Premier League defeats.

Arsenal have seven games to return to the Champions League, and with Tottenham three points ahead of them, everyone – not just Gabriel – needs to step up. Of course, that might sound silly to say, but – as aforesaid – hair loss can certainly have a negative impact on a person’s confidence. Aside from football, hair loss can impact confidence, and it seems Gabriel Magalhães has sought to rectify that issue in recent weeks.

Chelsea v Arsenal: Premier League – live! (The Guardian)

Thomas Tuchel's side are back in form as the Gunners come to town. Join Rob Smyth for updates.

Chelsea are going to finish third, barring a tale of the seriously unexpected, whereas Arsenal are involved in an increasingly messy struggle for fourth place. Injuries, outgoing loans and the inherent irreplaceability of Thomas Partey have left Arsenal short in recent weeks, and few people fancy them to get anything tonight. There will be a reduced crowd at Stamford Bridge the night. Christensen played a poor backpass, well short of Mendy, and Nketiah was onto it in a flash. He cut inside and hit a pretty tame shot that took a deflection off Xhaka, who turned away from the ball, and spun past Ramsdale. I’m pretty sure Werner’s shot was going wide, in which case it will go down as a Xhaka own goal. Another way, perhaps, in which that Wenger-era Arsenal seems to span the birth of Football Today.” Loftus-Cheek won the ball 30 yards from goal and gave it to Werner on the left. It was an excellent break, starting with an indecently cool nutmeg on Alonso by Xhaka. Eventually Odegaard played a short pass to Smith Rowe, who ran onto the ball in the D and shaped a sweet first-time shot into the far corner. Nketiah turns Sarr smartly, 22 yards out, and cracks a left-footed shot just wide of the near post. It was a pretty poor challenge from Mount, actually, and he’s fortunate not to be booked. 25 min Saka’s deflected shot is headed across goal by Nketiah and volleyed off target by the stretching Tavares. No matter: Tavares was offside. That was crying out for Mick Harford, arriving late to put the ball and four Chelsea defenders into the net.

Kick off: Thiago Silva has come on for Chelsea replacing Andreas Christensen in the back line. The striker halts his run though as he looks offside and Aaron Ramsdale comes out to tidy up for Arsenal. He curls a low pass into the box for Lukaku to run onto but the forward is blocked off by Xhaka who holds him up long enough for Ramsdale to scoop up the loose ball.

Arsenal are the only club of the English Premier League (EPL) 'Big Six' who have the financial resilience to withstand major future economic shocks, ...

The researchers hope this study can help clubs to better withstand and recover from economic shocks. "The findings show the lack of economic resilience amongst the wealthiest clubs and their reliance on external financial resources puts them at risk if the UEFA Financial Fair Play Regulations (FFP) were to change. This became starkly evident during the COVID-19 crisis (which was outside of the time period when the data was collected) , where a number of EPL teams made it clear that they were struggling financially, or acted in a manner that demonstrated that the financial pinch was being felt." While EPL clubs present a large and increasing contribution to the UK economy, clubs are highly reliant on one major source of income and on key individuals. The results show Arsenal is the only current EPL team that has a strong resilience to changes in the wider economy. From 1993 to 2018, the UK economy more than doubled, whereas the wealth of the EPL clubs is 10 times larger than in 1998 and 30 times larger than in 1993.

Romelu Lukaku has been brought back into Chelsea's starting XI for their Premier League showdown with Arsenal on Wednesday night.

He's getting chances, it's just a matter of time for me that he's going to score. The first goal of Lukaku's second spell at Chelsea came away at the Gunners back in August, and when asked if that played a part in his thinking on Wednesday Tuchel admitted: 'A little bit. 'It was not the main reason - he deserves to play first of all and Kai is a bit tired. 'Lukaku has six weeks to save his Chelsea career. As a manager you never give up on your players especially when they come for that kind of price tag. Kai Havertz is overloaded so it was the moment to go with Romelu.'

Player Ratings: Chelsea 2-4 Arsenal | Premier League (Sports Illustrated)

Chelsea were the architects of their own downfall in a 2-4 loss against arch-rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

That was clear as day here, struggling in the physical duels and not extracting inches of space like he so often does. The German is surging with confidence and he's got the goals to show for it. Not the blockbuster performance like that which he put up against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final, but it was neat, tidy and he was not detrimental to his team, unlike his illustrious midfield partner. Wore his heart on his sleeve as per usual and showed his brilliant best to win possession high up and deliver a sumptuous cross for Chelsea's second equaliser. Opened his account for the club nine years ago against the same opposition and kissed the badge after what may well transpire to be his final goal for the club he has served for the better part of a decade, if rumours are to be believed. Inability to make a tackle despite that being his job would be almost impressive, if he didn't leave the viewer on edge with every time he leaves a dangling leg in. Never looked truly settled and not given the licence to bomb on until it was too late, when Lukaku as an obvious target was already withdrawn. Only faced three shots between his sticks and failed to deal with all of them, although much of the blame very much lies at the calamity occurring in front of the Senegalese giant. Yet again at a crucial stage of the season, Chelsea have been charitable to their noisy but less able neighbours. It was welcome respite from the chaos that had come before, and Thomas Tuchel no doubt had some choice words for a number of his men. Any prospect of the Blues bucking their ideas up at the back however quickly dissipated when three defenders somehow failed to deal with one determined attacker in Nketiah again in minute 57. But as so often in this fixture, the World Champions delivered the fatal shot to their own foot with an unforgivably complacent and frankly disgraceful showing.

It was the 11th goal conceded by Chelsea in their last three home games and Azpilicueta's frustration boiled over in an angry exchange with a fan after the final whistle. Chelsea were hit with a sucker punch in the 27th minute as Xhaka and Saka led an incisive counter from a Blues corner, with Martin Odegaard teeing up Smith Rowe for a low strike past Mendy. Eddie Nketiah double hands Arsenal vital win amid Chelsea chaos (The Guardian)

Eddie Nketiah scored twice to give Arsenal a crucial 4-2 win over Chelsea as they chase a place in the top four.

The left wing-back found Nketiah and, when Silva, Sarr and N’Golo Kanté failed to clear, the striker prodded the ball past Mendy. Arsenal appealed for a foul on White; in truth the defender was not strong enough. After 32 minutes Mount hounded Ben White off the ball and crossed for César Azpilicueta, who escaped Tavares and prodded the ball home. The goal summed up Chelsea’s difficulties without Thiago Silva and Rüdiger at the back. The problem, however, was that the opening period summed up the contradictions in this Arsenal team. Two goals from Eddie Nketiah, his first in the league this season, were enough for them to go level on points with Tottenham in fourth place with six games left.

Cedric gets away on right and he has lots of space to find the unmarked Saka in the box, but he blazes his centre well wide of him and the chance is gone. The youngster has bagged his first Premier League goals of the season at what could prove to be a key juncture. Arteta makes his first change as Martinelli comes on for Nketiah who leaves to an ovation from the Arsenal support. Cedric is then caught by a late challenge by Mount who is booked as a result of the clash. Penalty for Arsenal and it wins the game for them. To the home side's annoyance that is interrupted by Holding going down with what appears to be a bit of cramp.

Nketiah proves Arteta wrong, gives Arsenal new life in top-four race ... (ESPN)

Both Eddie Nketiah and Romelu Lukaku are out of favour, yet the former fueled an unlikely Arsenal win as Chelsea's record signing's slump continued.

Cesar Azpilicueta showed a striker's touch to poke home Mason Mount's cross to send the teams in level at the break, but Arsenal made the most of more defensive uncertainty, not eradicated by Thiago Silva's half-time introduction for Christensen. But still, we had the same mistake against Real Madrid that cost us the next round of the Champions League, and this one cost us the next match. Perhaps Arteta's shift to a three-man defence surprised Tuchel somewhat but, not for the first time, it was individual errors that cost them dearly. Lukaku looked off the pace in attack and provided a reminder of what Chelsea lose in their pressing game when Kai Havertz is not leading the line. Contrast that with Lukaku, who gave a more incendiary interview in December that prompted Blues boss Thomas Tuchel to drop the Belgium international in a move from which his individual form has never recovered. Both are out of favour and may well be playing their football at different clubs next season after publicly voicing concerns about how they are being utilised, yet Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah -- the 22-year-old making only his 13th top-flight start -- outshone pedigree heavyweight Romelu Lukaku to breathe fresh life into the Gunners' top-four hopes with a brace in Wednesday's 4-2 win at Chelsea.

It was superb forward play, and finally set the game further back. The midfielder played the most beautiful curved ball for Cesar Azpilicueta to arrive at the front post and guide the ball like an arch finisher. Xhaka used his feet to deliberate and rather deft effect, winning the ball back there and then starting the move with a nutmeg. This may well have been Christensen’s last game for the club and, if so, it was crowned by a dreadful back pass that gifted Arsenal the lead. It was admittedly difficult to escape the feeling that a relatively secure Chelsea weren’t at their most focused, not that Thomas Tuchel will see it that way. It was also the wicked deflection off Granit Xhaka, as Timo Werner’s shot spun off the midfielder’s foot.

As a result, should the midfielder leave for good, the aforementioned squad number will be vacant once again ahead of the new campaign. If Gakpo was to complete a move this summer, naturally supporters will be looking forward to seeing the Netherlands international holding up the Arsenal shirt at his unveiling and it could have no.11 on the back of it as that appears to be his favoured option having switched to it from no.19 for PSV at the beginning of the season. One of the players expected to leave is Lucas Torreira as Fiorentina will open talks with the Gunners at the end of the season with the Uruguay international keen on returning to Italy on a permanent basis after playing a key role in their quest to qualify for Europe by chipping in with five goals in 27 Serie A appearances.

LIVE Transfer Talk: Arsenal, Spurs, Man United in race for ... (ESPN)

Youri Tielemans could be available for around £40m this summer and there's a top-four battle for his signature. Transfer Talk has the latest.

Juventus have also been in contact with the 29-year-old's representatives, with the Bianconeri looking to negotiate a deal that includes a lower salary than the £290,000-per-week he earns at Old Trafford. The Serie A club would like to compromise on Matic's deal that currently sees him earn a €7m yearly salary, though he is keen to work under Jose Mourinho again for a third time. - Barcelona have made a contract offer to Sergi Roberto, with hopes of extending the defender's deal at Camp Nou, reveals Sport. The 30-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and after postponing talks in December, manager Xavi Hernandez has this week decided to resume negotiations. The Sweden international can be signed by Spurs this summer for a transfer fee off £24.9m, which is in addition to the £8.3m loan fee already paid. Phillips has started just 12 games for Leeds in the Premier League this season, having sustained injury problems throughout the campaign, though he has also remained on the radar of Manchester United too. Sources cautioned that Vela hasn't signed the deal just yet, but now the former Mexico international looks set to remain in Los Angeles through the end of the 2023 campaign, if not beyond. The Belgium international wants to play Champions League football, which ninth-placed Leicester won't be able to offer this season, but there are a host of interested clubs. It was during that campaign that he scored a league record 34 goals. Vela, 33, has been LAFC's marquee player since arriving ahead of the club's inaugural season in 2018. Nemanja Matic is open to moving to AS Roma, reveals Calciomercato. Matic revealed on Friday that he will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season, bringing an end to his five-year spell at Old Trafford. Matic, who is under contract at United until 2023, has made 26 appearances across all competitions for the club this season. Paul Pogba is open to joining another Premier League club when his contract expires in the summer, according to Sky Sports. The Manchester United midfielder looks almost certain to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, and it is reported that he hasn't ruled out a potential move to domestic rivals. ESPN reported in early April that United were set to finalise the appointment of Ten Hag and the Dutchman has agreed a three-year deal to take over at Old Trafford, with the option of another year.

The ball bounces very, very awkwardly in front of Andreas [Christensen] when he wants to play this ball." The likes of Lucas Paqueta, Lautaro Martinez and Darwin Nunez have all been mooted as potential targets for technical director Edu, who will be keen to bolster Arteta's squad at the end of the current campaign. Speaking after the game, he said: "To say that the pitch is difficult to play here is maybe sounds like an excuse but it is a very, very difficult pitch that we have here. The north London are in the market for a clinical frontman this summer after allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave during the January transfer window. The Spaniard has been linked with a transfer to Arsenal in the summer, while Newcastle are another side reportedly interested. PSV winger Cody Gakpo is being tipped for a move to Arsenal when the summer transfer window officially opens.

Mikel Arteta told he's made major transfer mistake as Arsenal boss ... (Football.London)

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has questioned Mikel Arteta's decision to let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang go in January.

It was obviously a big gamble to get rid of Aubameyang, but it also shows that Arteta's true to his principles. Aubameyang was stripped of the club's captaincy back in December following a disciplinary breach before securing a move to Barcelona shortly after. When discussing these non-negotiables in August of last year, the Spaniard said: "First of all, respect.

75 – Final third touches for Chelsea from the 23rd to 60th minutes. The stretch run for Arsenal looks manageable but will still be full of potential drama. Arsenal controlled the middle of this match. The opening period of this match was pure chaos. They had 2 big chances (the first Eddie Nketiah goal and the Bukayo Saka penalty) but still created some solid medium quality chances in this match. Well Arsenal used every bit of it and then some with the three straight losses, making this match huge in the race for top four.

When we had the ball we were good and created good chances to score maybe one or two more, but in the end we take the three points like this. It is not what we wanted, but what we wanted was to show a reaction and I think, over 90 minutes, we deserved to win the game. But it will also come down to a battle of wills and nerve as Arsenal looked like they had blown up after three straight defeats before their win at Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Arsenal keep top four hopes alive with chaotic win at Chelsea ... (Eurosport.com)

Eddie Nketiah's brace led Arsenal to a 4-2 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a crucial win for their top-four aspirations.

Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal) - Was this the birth of new Arsenal striking hero? Their vastly superior goal difference means the North London duo would have to finish a point clear of them, and of course there is one North London derby remaining in the season. Timo Werner's improved form is very welcome, but with the exception of Mason Mount he seems the only player playing at his best in the business end of the season. They were far from their best against Crystal Palace at the weekend and may be feeling the repercussions of the dramatic Champions League exit eight days ago. Chelsea are five points clear in third. LONDON, ENGLAND - APRIL 20: Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal celebrates scoring his teams third goal during the Premier League match between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on April 20, 2022 in London, England

Mikel Arteta leaves celebration to Bukayo Saka and Arsenal players ... (CBSSports.com)

A late penalty from Bukayo Saka secured a 4-2 win for Arsenal away to Chelsea.

So it was that the first notable contribution of Thiago Silva, brought on to add some composure to a defense awkwardly anchored by Christensen, saw him execute a perfect slide tackle on Nketiah only for the ball to cannon around his other center backs before the Arsenal striker turned it past Mendy. It did, however, offer Arsenal's No. 7 with the perfect moment to move on from the most trying moment of his fledgling career, missing the decisive spot kick at the final of Euro 2020. When that happened to Bukayo, it happened for a reason. "With the rollercoaster we had out there, it was difficult to predict what could happen," Arteta said. Arsenal refused to turn the most favorable of breaks to their favor. Tuchel, meanwhile, so often a bundle of rage on the Stamford Bridge sideline, was serenity writ large. And yet his side have hurled back into the Champions League race and ended a three-game losing streak that was threatening to be terminal for their hopes of finishing fourth. They had diced with fire in their own box before Granit Xhaka nutmegged Alonso to get Arsenal fizzing up the pitch on the counter. From there, the goal was a picture, Martin Odegaard teeing up Emile Smith Rowe to roll the ball into the bottom right corner. Not for the first time in recent weeks, it was Thomas Tuchel's side that ended the game with more critical errors to its name. Even when his side was taking the lead, they seemed to be giving their manager a stress headache. The pitch is difficult to play here.

Early team news for Arsenal trip (Manchester United)

There's a training boost for United, ahead of Saturday's game with the Gunners in north London.

Thomas Partey departed the pitch at Selhurst Park with a thigh problem, just before the Eagles scored their final goal of a 3-0 win, and both he and Tierney may have played for the last time this season. The trio were all pictured working at Carrington this morning (Thursday), and we expect interim manager Ralf Rangnick to provide a further update in his Friday press conference, which you can watch live on MUTV, ManUtd.com and in the United App. Meanwhile Varane has been absent for each of our last three games since the 1-1 draw with Leicester at the beginning of April.
