We left our goalies out to dry, and we got embarrassed in the second period.” “It’s a game where the kids on the other side are going to try and come out and show their worth, and they did.” Josi added, “I actually thought we played a pretty good first and had a lot of chances … but in the second period, we just fell apart. “We got off to a really good start, and to come out of the first period 1-1, I felt we deserved better than that,” Predators coach John Hynes said. It was a hard game to play,” Flames coach Darryl Sutter said postgame. There’s a lot of things we have to look at and do better, and the next game is huge.

Flames' 2022 First-Round Matchups Are No Cakewalks (The Hockey Writers)

Regardless of who the Calgary Flames' first round opponent is in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, they should be in for a tough test.

He has registered a SV% of .915 and a GAA of 2.49, and has the ability to frustrate Calgary’s sharpshooters. Their top line of Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz and Joe Pavelski is a threat anytime they are on the ice and each is producing at or close to a point-per-game pace. Paul is also known for his interesting perspectives on the key issues and challenges facing the teams he follows. Battling for a postseason berth, the Predators are tied with the Stars for fourth spot in the Central Division with 91 points. In this season’s lone matchup with the Flames back in November, they notched a 3-2 overtime victory. Flames fans get to see the rubber match on Thursday. What’s more, many young goaltenders rise in the playoffs to perform beyond what were believed to be their limits. Then there was 2020, when the Flames were shown the door by the Stars after a humiliating 7-3 loss in Game 6. Who could forget 2019 when the Flames got an early start on their golf season after being eliminated by the Colorado Avalanche? That year they entered the playoffs atop the Western Conference. There’s no question the Flames are one of the teams who should be heavily favoured to hoist the Stanley Cup in June, or at least that’s the way it looks on paper. The dust bin of Stanley Cup history overflows with sure bets who went on to suffer ignominious falls worthy of Icarus. They are sure to crumble once they come up against the honest, hard-working lunch bucket crew that Flames general manager Brad Treliving has assembled, led as they are, by hard-nosed head coach Darryl Sutter.

Flames Game Day 77: Headin' down to Nashville (6pm MT, SN West) (Flames Nation)

Johnny Gaudreau – Elias Lindholm – Matthew Tkachuk ; Noah Hanifin – Rasmus Andersson Oliver Kylington ; Daniel Vladar to start and be backed up by Jacob Markstrom ...

This is the second of three scheduled meetings between these clubs this season. Last time out, Nashville lost 8-3 to the St. Louis Blues in a game where they were leaky defensively and saw Saros chased midway through the game. Given the back-to-back situation, we’re expecting Daniel Vladarto start and be backed up by Jacob Markstrom. There’s no morning skate, so we’ll see what unfolds at warm-up. Just 24 hours after a win over Chicago, the Calgary Flames (47-20-9, 103 points) are back in action! And like on Monday night, they visit the Nashville Predators (43-28-5, 91 points) four months later than originally intended. The Flames

NHL Talk: Flames, Canucks, Capitals, Golden Knights, Hurricanes ... (The Hockey Writers)

In this edition of “NHL Talk,” these are the top hockey stories with quotes from players, coaches, managers, and more.

… The work in what has happened all year and what has happened the whole year has put us in a spot where we don’t have the luxury to relax and play loose this time of the year. “We’ve been playing that way for a good chunk of time now because we’re desperate and that’s what desperate hockey is.” Carolina is gearing up for a playoff run, with the fourth-best record in the NHL this season at 49-20-8. Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin scored his 48th goal of the season in a 3-2 win at the Colorado Avalanche on Monday. At age 36, he tied Teemu Selanne (2006-07) for the most goals in a season by an NHL player age 36 or older. Gave him a little bit extra towards the end of the game and the D-zone, an extra half shift. A lot of help from those guys in the locker room.”

NHL Odds: Flames vs. Predators prediction, odds, and pick - 4/19 ... (ClutchPoints)

The western wild-card holder Nashville Predators will play host to the Pacific division leader in the Calgary Flames tonight. It's time to continue our NHL ...

They haven’t been playing amazing hockey as of late, per se, but now that we’re at the end of the regular season, every point counts for the Preds. The Flames will battle hard, as they always do, but they’re on the tail end of a road back-to-back and starting their backup goaltender. The Calgary Flames have clinched a playoff spot but with a win tonight they would clinch the Pacific Division, giving them the number two seed overall behind the Avalanche. The Flames have played pretty strong in their last 10 games, going 7-2-1 but they’ve been beating up on weaker opponents during that time. He’ll look to help his team get an upset win here tonight and add some points to their total. The western wild-card holder Nashville Predators will play host to the Pacific division leader in the Calgary Flames tonight. The Flames are still a legitimately strong team, but their hopes for a big playoff run are slowly diminishing if they can’t find wins against other playoff teams. The Predators are looking for a bounce-back effort as they lost 8-3 to the Blues on Sunday. The Flames will be in the second half of a road back-to-back series tonight while looking to officially lock up first place in their division with a win here tonight.

Calgary Flames: Breaking Down Gaudreau's Shot at the Art Ross ... (The Hockey Writers)

Thanks to a two goal outing on Monday night, Johnny Gaudreau now trails Connor McDavid by just three points for the league lead.

Similar to McDavid, that seems like a tough task, but it is worth noting he has played at a similar rate as of late, having recorded six points in his past five games. He’s been a very active and reliable source for nearly two years at The Hockey Writers. He is a credentialed writer for the Calgary Flames but also does features on other teams throughout the league. Of course, these are all hypotheticals that could play out much differently, but regardless of what happens, this race appears to be one that will come right down to the finish. As for Draisaitl, it seems rather unlikely he would hit Gaudreau’s projected point total of 116, given that he would need 11 points in six games. As a result, he has moved past Leon Draisaitl for sole possession of third in league scoring, and trails the leader in Connor McDavid by just three points. With the 2021-22 season coming to an end in just under two weeks’ time, we now have a relatively good idea of how a number of things will turn out.
