Clippers vs. Pelicans Play-In: Odds, predictions, three things to watch (Sporting News)

After both winning their first Play-In tournament matchups, it is now win or go home for both the Los Angeles Clippers and the New Orleans Pelicans with the ...

His minutes restriction has been lifted, it's now or never for PG and the Clips this season. Still, the Clippers entered the Play-In tournament as the eighth seed and a big reason for that has been their defense. The Clippers are 24-27 in games overall without PG13 this season. They went 13-10 after the break to make into the Play-In seedings with McCollum averaging 25.2 points, 6.0 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game on 49.5% shooting in his first 25 games with New Orleans. The Clips will need another defensive effort like that again. The Pelicans defeated the San Antonio Spurs 1113-103 in the 9-10 game, while the Clippers get a second chance at advancing to the postseason after losing their 7-8 matchup to the Minnesota Timberwolves 109-104.

This is why the New Orleans Pelicans traded for CJ McCollum (Pelican Debrief)

The New Orleans Pelicans beat the Spurs 113-103 with help from CJ McCollum and will advance to play the Clippers for the 8th seed in the NBA Playoffs.

The Smoothie King Center was rocking, which also helped propel the Pelicans to victory. This was the reason the Pels went out and traded for McCollum, as they needed someone who had some playoff experience and the ability to carry the offense at times. The bench was outscored 32-20, but made important hustle plays that helped keep the momentum for New Orleans.

The New Orleans Pelicans defeat San Antonio Spurs 113-103 ... (WRUF)

The New Orleans Pelicans got going early in yesterday evenings game at the Smoothie King Center, taking down the San Antonio Spurs 113-103.

This game marks New Orleans first postseason game since 2018. With the Pelicans holding the lead for almost the entire game, the Spurs fought back for a hard last quarter, but ran out of steam. After a series of three-pointers over the fourth quarter, the Spurs had a 16-1 scoring run for just over five minutes. Behind McCollum, Ingram put up an impressive 27 points, along with five rebounds and assists. Ingram’s two final free throws for foul against San Antonio’s Dejounte Murray was enough to put the game away 113-103. — New Orleans Pelicans (@PelicansNBA)April 14, 2022

'That guy ain't no rookie': Pelicans react to Herb Jones' play-in ... (The Rookie Wire)

With New Orleans' season on the line, Jones produced one of his finest performances to help the Pelicans defeat the Spurs.

It was also a prime example of how the 35th pick is in the discussion for an All-Defensive team placement. He is doing everything he can to be prepared. He knew that was going to be a challenging matchup (against Murray) and he met it head-first. He is in the gym, doing two-a-days. He was watching and studying. I looked into his eyes and he just was ready.

Not on Herb: Pelicans rookie Jones punches ticket as defensive star (BasketballNews.com)

The Pelicans secured a matchup with the Clippers after beating the Spurs, and it was sparked by Herb Jones' defense.

Try to initiate the offense with a kick-ahead to one of the best downhill drivers in the game in Keldon Johnson? Not so fast. There aren't enough words to describe what a fun and enjoyable defensive player and prospect Jones is. That reconnection on Murray after the screen is all you can ask for, even if ideally a foul is not attached. This man is legitimately already one of the best defenders on planet earth regardless of age. That rotation to block Vassell is fantastic; the communication and vision stands out. (I'm super interested to see how this plays out against a more dynamic offensive team in the Clippers, because it's much harder to play ICE against a team that can thrive on five-out lineups). And as the viewer, you quickly find out that this isn't a tune-up fight. Jaxson Hayes comes up with the double drags to ICE along with Jones, calls out the coverage and Murray catches him going downhill. If you've followed the NBA season and come across the Pels for even a modicum of time while perusing NBA League Pass, you probably know about Jones, as he's done this all year. In a dynamite defensive performance, the New Orleans Pelicans stifled the San Antonio Spurs, 113-103, advancing to the second round of the Play-In Tournament toward a matchup with the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night. This is one of my favorite things about Herb, and a part of what makes him a special defender. Jones' hands were everywhere and on everything, reminiscent of a Naruto montage.
