KGF Chapter 2 Movie Review: Yash and Sanjay Dutt steal the show ... (India Today)

Director Prashanth Neel's KGF: Chapter 2 starring Yash, Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon is a paisa-vasool action entertainer.

With Sanjay Dutt, Prashanth found a menacing villain, who has an equal weightage as the hero. The sequel has enough meat in terms of story, which comes as a huge advantage. The second part, KGF: Chapter 2, shows the enemies unable to handle Rocky's rise as the messiah of the masses. Like Baahubali, Prashanth Neel did a clever job of establishing the characters and plot in the first part. Raja Krishnappa Bairya AKA Rocky Bhai (Yash) is now the ruler of Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) after killing Garuda. In Prakash Raj's words, Rocky has built an indestructible empire in KGF with his clever thinking and quick wit. The first part, KGF: Chapter 1, ended on a high note and managed to keep curiosity alive for over 3.5 years.

KGF 2 movie review: Too much sound, a lot of fury, little impact (The Indian Express)

KGF Chapter 2 review: KGF 2 has hit theatres across India. KGF 2 movie cast: Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Prakash Raj, Srinidhi Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Anant Nag, ...

In her tasteful saris, and that trademark white streak in the hair, Raveena Tandon leaves a little more impact: she is also responsible for an act which has ensured the erasure of the wild and valorous deeds of Rocky from our history books. The film swings haphazardly between the past, which shows us Rocky’s devotion towards his mother (Archana Jois), and the present, in which he swings between being a saviour and the guy who cracks the whip and roars at the workers to never stop working. His unruly mane is still the same, but this time around Rocky appears in a series of sharp suits, standing out against the thousands of extras dressed in mud-brown humble clothes.

Bhuvan Gowda, the cinematographer, creates his own visual palette and doesn’t seem too bogged down by the period setting of the story – each frame, each swipe of the camera is beautiful and admirable. The main star of the film, however, is the exceptional synergy between Prashanth Neel and his team. Sanjay Dutt is certainly a striking figure on the screen in his Vikings avatar and is his imposing best in the breath-taking action sequences. As he expands the mining operations of KGF, he turns it into his hidden fortress and becomes a demigod in the eyes of the people, while Adheera’s menacing presence looms larger than ever. Prashanth Neel, whose story unfurled in a slow-yet-intriguing manner in KGF: 1, makes no bones about his intent with the sequel and cranks up the energy right from the word go. Vijayendra Ingalgi (Prakash Raj), son of the former journalist and author of the infamous book El-Dorado, takes over as the narrator of KGF: 2 and soon sets the context.

KGF 2 review: Explosive tale of brash, unapologetic, larger-than-life ... (Hindustan Times)

KGF Chapter 2 review: This Yash-starrer is an immersive film that is worth the hype and one of the finest sequels to have come out in a long time.

As the story unfolds, it brings in a lot many characters without interrupting the pace of the story or screenplay. In fact, there’s quite an irony in the character sketch she’s given. One of the finest sequels to have come out in a long time, KGF 2 takes off right from where the first part ended. Rocking Star Yash returns to screen as the raw and ruthless hero. As Anand Ingalagi (Anant Nag), the author of El Doradao is hospitalised and can no longer narrate the story of KGF (Kolar Gold Fields) and rise of Rocky, his son Vijayendra Ingalagi (Prakash Raj) takes over. It was only recently that I sat down to watch KGF part 1 and in all honesty, I didn’t understand most of it.

KGF Chapter 2 Review: Yash Struts Through Battering Ram Of A ... (NDTV)

Cast: Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Srinidhi Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Prakash Raj, Anant Nag. Director: Prashanth Neel. Ratings: 2 Stars (Out of 5).

K.G.F. Chapter 2 is a battering ram of a movie. With the background score intent on squashing any possibility of serenity, the film gallops like a runaway horse with Yash ('Rocking Star' is prefixed to his name in the opening credits) firmly on its back. But if you love your eardrums and have had your fill of the super-heroic exploits of an underdog-turned-top dog hero, K.G.F. Chapter is best avoided. That is the apogee of the philosophical wisdom that this mass entertainer peddles. Ultimately, the big action sequences, mounted with flair but sans any element of surprise or realism, look and feel mechanical because we know all along no great harm is going to befall the hero. Lead actor revelled Yash in playing a hero with the power of a battalion - an act that catapulted him and the movie into the national consciousness. The film allows itself absolutely no breathing space either in terms of pacing or with regard to what it piles up on the soundtrack. Of course, for good measure, Rocky, sounding like Gordon Gekko, intones that greed is good, greed is progress. Relentless action, an unstoppable torrent of words, a splotchy and grainy colour palette and dizzyingly fidgety camerawork get in the way of the story acquiring any degree of tonal variation. By way of facile tokenism, there is much ado about a girl child in Narachi who hasn't been killed at birth. He is a lone wolf with the appetite of one. About the only good thing about K.G.F. Chapter 2 is that you know what you are buying into.
