Beast Tamil (Theatres) Director: Nelson Cast: Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Selvaraghavan, VTV Ganesh, Yogi Babu Rating: 2.5/5 Clearly, Vijay's on-screen ...
Nelson has made a film that tries too hard to be special. The plot doesn’t feel the need to use her to solve the problems. Towards the end, the feeling of watching an outdated, one-man show film is inevitable. Thanks to half-baked characters, the movie suffers from a slow screenplay. The hilarious VTV Ganesh emerges as the best of the lot. Be it in Karthik Subbaraj's ‘Petta’, ‘Master’ and now ‘Beast’, the directors have brought out the classy avatars of these big stars.
Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's new film 'Beast hit the screens on Wednesday, April 13, which has banned in Kuwait and Qatar.
It is also believed that the reason may be due to the anti-Pakistan sentiment in the film. In a tweet, Bala speculated that the film’s portrayal of Pakistan and scenes depicting Islamists as terrorists could be the reason behind it being banned. The much-awaited Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay’s new film ‘Beast’, which hit the screens worldwide on Wednesday, April 13, has been banned in Kuwait and Qatar for depicting Muslim characters as terrorists.
Thalapathy Vijay Beast Movie Review Update: Nelson Dilipkumar could have used this plot set-up to turn in a nail-biting thriller.
What?! He’s the hero and the ultimate sign of a hero is sacrifice, isn’t it? And when Veera steps out of his safety to face the terrorists, time slows down. After the terrorists take control of the mall, Veera safely escorts himself and a few friends to safety and finds a safe place to hide. It is a huge subversion of the expectations of hardcore fans. So he quits RAW. Call it the good fortune of innocent people or a stroke of bad luck for a group of Pakistan-based terrorists, Veera unexpectedly ends up in a shopping mall, which gets hijacked. No matter how maverick and rebellious the director is, he has to whip up a series of events, creating anticipation and setting the ground ready for the entry of the hero.
Let us also not make the mistake of comparing Yash's KGF: Chapter 2 box office performance with the Hindi version of Beast, starring Vijay.
And when a star rarely promotes his movie and yet breaks box office records, it is a sign that he has reached the highest form of stardom in Tamil cinema. The cast, the crew and the producers of Beast have neither spent the time, money nor energy like the makers of KGF 2 in promoting the film not just in the north but across the country and world. The long waiting period to get a fresh dose of the Rajini-magic was enough to ensure that the release day of his new movie was celebrated with a lot of gusto and gaiety. Let us also not make the mistake of comparing Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2 box office performance with the Hindi version of Beast. At this stage, the Hindi release of Beast, under the title Raw, is just a formality, carried out maybe due to peer pressure. In Tamil Nadu, there are superstars and then there is Rajinikanth. The main source of his superstardom is his elusiveness. The ground rules of stardom and the terms of engagement are also dynamic.
Beast is the new movie by Tamil star Vijay. Like his recent movies, he works with another young talented director Nelson Dilipkumar for Beast.
Vijay is currently aiming for the number one spot in Tamil cinema. Veera (Vijay) is a RAW agent. — Beast takes off with a over the top formulaic under cover action episode. Vijay would be hoping to continue the good track record and improve the long run further with Beast in Telugu. Dil Raju backing it in Telugu states is a good sign, and it should augur well for the film if the talk is good. The theatrical trailer and the action have clicked with the youth of Telugu. Anirudh’s background score is doing wonders for Vijay like it did previously with Master. The early morning shows occupancies are good across the board, and if there is a positive talk, Beast will post good opening day numbers. He is already leading the race with back to back successful outings for a long time.

The director seems to have banked entirely on his star to carry the film, but with a script that hardly offers him anything to work with, even Vijay can only do so much with his star power. In fact, the film barely delivers the laughs in the places where it should have been funny and makes us break into a laugh whenever it tries to be a mass hero movie. The problem with Beast is that it has a protagonist who is too strong given a mission that never seems to be a challenge.
'Beast' directed by Nelson Dilipkumar features Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Selvaraghavan, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley and Aparna Das. The movie is released in.
The ticket demand is certainly high for 'Beast' as Vijay is one of the bankable actors in the South. Perhaps that is the reason why some are taking advantage of the actor's craze. As 'Beast' is releasing on a working day, it's going to be a big test for the film. Earlier, the Kuwait government banned 'Beast' to release in their territory as it portrayed Muslims as terrorists and it has a few dialogues against Pakistan. Now, the Qatar government has reportedly banned the film from release in their region pointing out the same reason. The back-to-back bans for 'Beast' have disappointed the fans. The film has reportedly stereotyped Muslims as terrorists, and it was condemned by the TN Mulsim association. Banners and cutouts of Vijay and 'Beast' poster has been erected outside theatres as well all over the state. Vijay’s father SA Chandrasekhar who has been active on YouTube the last few months, has spoken about ‘Beast’ for the first time. He soon prevents the government from releasing a dreaded terrorist, who he had helped to put in prison at great personal cost a few years back.Read full review here! Beast movie review: This Vijay and Pooja Hegde film is a Die Hard-inspired thriller but suffers due to weak writing.
At the last minute, the Indian government decides to call off the mission, but Veera decides to go ahead as per the original plan, against the orders of his own bosses. Beast, a Die Hard inspired invasion thriller, is Nelson’s attempt at going big in terms of vision and scale which is only let down by lethargic writing. After leaving a strong mark with his uniquely entertaining films such as Kolamavu Kokila and Doctor, Nelson takes a quantum leap to attempt something highly ambitious with Vijay, who is inarguably one of the biggest stars in the country.
In Beast, Vijay is surrounded by eccentric and flamboyantly funny characters, but as cliches pile up, the irreverent jokes aren't enough to keep this beast ...
As the film progresses, the loopholes become increasingly unbearable. When the irony is not in the setting, it is in the dialogue or the performance. Not that it would be difficult, not with these militants who don’t even monitor the CCTVs efficiently. Even the jokes and references around Vijay’s political presence are well-done. It feels like some chunks have been left on the edit table. The challenge is to keep us surprised, despite all these tropes. In Beast, Vijay neatly slips into his place in this whacky world as RAW spy Veera Raghavan. Vijay is known for being exuberant on screen. This protagonist is surrounded by characters who are eccentric and flamboyantly funny. He has a protagonist who is stoic but quirky. For example, how the protagonist always walks through a barrage of bullets completely untouched. But in Beast, Vijay gets a frills-free introduction shot. But it’s a hint of Nelson’s biggest tool to surprise his audience -- subversion.

Nelson tries to be imaginative and break out of cliches but he keeps using the oldest tricks in the book whenever he runs out of ideas.
Of course the son has a brain tumour. Of course the terrorist spills the beans in a matter of seconds. Of course Veeraraghavan interrogates the terrorist. Of course Veeraraghavan finds the photo. The Islamic terrorists are from ‘ISS’ and appear to be from Pakistan and Afghanistan. They speak to each other in fluent Hindi, and to the hostages in Tamil. They seem to be extremely talented in linguistics but downright foolhardy when it comes to planning a terror operation. It felt like a good sign — that Nelson was going to smash the star vehicle format and reinvent it by giving primacy to the plot.
In hostage rescue situations, the big, almost tangible, fear is that innocent people could potentially get killed. It's what negotiators want to avoid; ...
The filmmaking that’s keener to romanticise the hero’s style than it is interested in telling a meaningful story. the execution of such scenes in Beast only adds to the disbelief. Even this early in his career, director Nelson’s strength is thought to lie in humour—particularly of the dry and dark variety. And as I have so often said about invulnerable heroes, where’s the fun in the bad guys getting the crap beaten out of them… In hostage rescue situations, the big, almost tangible, fear is that innocent people could potentially get killed. All this, of course, is an excuse to introduce Preethi (Pooja Hegde), who—even after 160 minutes of watching this film—I didn’t know much about, except that she hates her fawning fiancee (a track that did not work for me at all) and is desperate for a replacement man.
Cast: Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Yogi Babu, Selvaraghavan, Shine Tom Chacko, Redin Kingsley, VTV Ganesh, Shaji Chen, Aparna Das. Director: Nelson.
Beast dares to make a home minister, a bumbling self-seeker, the butt of its barbs. Egged on by Altaf Hussain (Selvaraghavan), the interlocutor between the Indian government and the terror mastermind Saif (Ankur Vikal, whose face is revealed only in the second half of the film), he swings into action. He hears the wails of a distressed child and he cannot hold himself back. Only one of the actors who is in the Beast cast to provide comic relief manages to serve the purpose of his existence - VTV Ganesh, who has his share of laconic one-liners. In Beast, Vijay pops up without any pomp and show, flashes half a smile at the audience, and goes about his job in a manner that serves to underscore the hero's phlegmatic nature. Yet, no matter how much proven wallop a megastar might bring to the table, he still needs a strong and cohesive script to sustain the combination of fire and flint that drives him.
