Jets Hang on for Narrow Victory in Ottawa (Game On Hockey)

At this point, it really doesn't matter anymore. Winning important hockey games was something that the Winnipeg Jets needed to address a month-and-a-half ...

He legitimately was probably the only guy that started on time and he gave us a chance to get going. After watching a Josh Norris power play shot get deflected up in the air, Tkachuk opted for his best Vladdy Guerrero impression, batting the puck out of mid-air and past Hellebuyck, top corner on a beautiful display of hand-eye control. The goal came late in the first period, bringing the Jets to a 1-1 draw through 20 minutes of play. Captain Brady Tkachuk made them pay just 50 seconds into the period, as he potted his 25th of the season, cutting Winnipeg’s lead to 3-2 with 19 minutes to play. The Jets came out with gumption in the middle frame. “I didn’t like our puck management, I didn’t like the pace we were playing, I didn’t like the urgency in our game. But, with Mathieu Joseph in the box for tripping Evgeny Svechnikov, Winnipeg’s power play made the Sens pay. They were facing the league’s 27th ranked team and a goaltender, Mads Soogard, who was making his second career start. Like you said, I think throughout the year whether it’s COVID or injuries we’ve had so many guys in and out of the lineup, that it’s pretty easy to shuffle them up and just keep playing. Giving up a goal to Josh Norris – his 32nd of the year – just 1:48 into the contest certainly didn’t help matters for a team desperate to win every single game from here out. “I didn’t really see what happened because I was on the ice and it happened so quick. Especially with the magnitude of the game, nobody’s going to feel bad for us.

But with the Jets on a back-to-back, it looks likely that Eric Comrie will start in goal against Sam Montembeault. And as well as Montreal has played for St. Louis, the defense remains a mess. New customers only. They continued to struggle until a coaching change was made, with Martin St. Louis hired to replace Dominique Ducharme. It’s fair to say the Jets are done and will be playing out the string over the last two weeks of the season. At this point of the NHL season, it is fair to incorporate motivation levels into your handicap.

Jets take down Canadiens to continue 'desperation mode' playoff ... (CBC.ca)

Evgeny Svechnikov's third-period goal lifted the Winnipeg Jets to a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens Monday night.

I didn't see a lot of action at the moment but I think it's going well and I'm working well. "It was a bit of a weird year," Montembeault said. The Canadiens opened the scoring with a goal by Joel Armia, then Josh Anderson tied the game 2-2 in the third period. Samuel Montembeault tried his mightiest to keep Montreal (20-42-11) in the game. The Jets swept a brief two-game road trip with a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night. [We] hope to get some help from other teams, but I don't think we really talk about anything bigger than the next game.

Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens doubled by Winnipeg Jets in ... (Globalnews.ca)

When a team finishes 31st out of 32 teams in the league, there are clearly some holes. Brian Wilde explains where those holes are for the Montreal ...

He’s good on the faceoffs, and that helps, but he needs to find a way to be more Phillip Danualt-like, if he cannot be more offensive. However, they need Christian Dvorak to be the player that he was in juniors when he was a scoring star. Emil Heineman and Lucas Condotta are eligible to play in the AHL post-season after recently signing with the organization. The club has to have a second top six at the centre position. The next hole that needs to be filled is some puck-moving defenders for the entire season on the blue line. The zone entry and move he made heading into the Jets zone on Montreal’s opening goal was outstanding. The second biggest hole of the year is the special teams, with the Canadiens having been the worst or second worst all season on the power play and penalty kill. He’s been scoring at a point-per-game clip since the arrival of Martin St. Louis with 28 points in 28 games. That help is on the way and happening now. At this moment, the kill is 28th, and the extra-man is 31st. This was one of Montembeault’s better games as he held the desperate Jets in check in the first period. That’s actually the biggest hole of the season.
