Je veux remercier tous les entraîneurs que j'ai eus au fil des ans, particulièrement Brennan Poderzay, qui a été mon entraîneur des gardiens à Minnesota State pendant mes deux premières années. Il m'a vraiment montré le chemin dans le hockey universitaire. Il était également un des trois finalistes pour l'obtention du trophée Mike Richter, remis au meilleur gardien au pays. Il faisait partie des trois finalistes pour une deuxième saison consécutive après avoir conservé une fiche de 38-4-0 cette saison. Il y a eu des hauts et des bas, et mes parents sont tout pour moi. « Je veux remercier mes parents qui ont été là pour moi à chaque étape, a commenté McKay. Mon père m'a transmis son amour du hockey très tôt dans ma vie et m'a facilité la tâche de devenir gardien. Ma mère m'a conduit pour de longs trajets en voiture et ce n'était pas toujours facile pour elle avant qu'on ait le GPS. Nous avons eu quelques trajets rocambolesques, mais malgré tout, ils ont toujours été là pour moi.
