Rockets vs Raptors Picks and Predictions: Failure to Launch (Toronto Sun)

NBA odds, picks, and predictions for the Houston Rockets at Toronto Raptors on April 8. NBA betting free picks against the spread and Over/Under.

Want sports betting straight to your inbox? Given that kind of consistency, it’s not likely he goes off against the team playing the best defense in the NBA right now. We could see garbage time in garbage time, which will typically trend towards more lackadaisical defense and back-and-forth action. Nick Nurse has never really been one to worry about playing his dudes too much, and there’s the implicit truth that Toronto’s rotation can all rest Sunday against New York if it wins tonight. The Raptors can win this game on either side of the ball — which makes the total a precarious proposition — especially in regular-season garbage time. They just won’t have the guns to test a motivated Raptors team that will want to put Chicago away with an easy win here and take the last game of the season off. They’re 8-2 straight up and 7-3 against the spread during that span, with five of those wins coming by double-digits. This should mean more experimentation from the Rockets, which highlights the main thing they have going against them in tonight’s matchup. Such is the case with the Houston Rockets, who currently own the NBA’s worst record at 20-60 and have lost five games in a row. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets. Toronto opened as a -14.5 to -15.5 favorite across various books, being steadily bet down to -11.5 as of Friday morning. Article content

That screams smashing the over regardless of who is playing. My over/under prediction (17-14-1 this season): Houston ranks second worst in defensive rating. Green hasn’t been in any serious rookie of the year consideration because of the Rockets record, but he’s just another example of an extremely impressive 2021 class. TV: TSN 4/5 Meanwhile the Raptors (47-33, 5th in East) will lock up the five seed with another win or Bulls loss. I’m going to take wild guess and say that Pascal Siakam will be rested.

The Toronto Raptors host the last-place Houston Rockets as 11.5-point favourites Friday evening.

Rockets +11.5 (-115): The Rockets may be an awful team, but they’re 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games. In games where the total is set at 225 or higher, the under is 7-1 in Raptors games. The absence of Anunoby should marginally reduce Toronto’s firepower. This is the third-highest total set for any Raptors game this season. - Rockets first half +6.5 (-115) - Rockets +11.5 (-115)

The Toronto Raptors will conclude their home regular season against the Houston Rockets. Here's where to watch, betting lines, and injury reports.

When you look across the court at Houston, remember that rebuilds rarely happen in one season. - It may, however, be a chance to pump up some of Scottie Barnes' box score stats against a lackluster Rockets defense. - This might not be the prettiest game you see all season.

Game thread: Toronto Raptors vs. Houston Rockets (RaptorsHQ)

If Toronto wins one of their next two games, they will have sole possession of the 5th seed. If they lose both, Chicago has the opportunity to tie the Raptors ...

Moreover, if Toronto wins both of their games and the 76ers lose both of their own, Toronto would leapfrog up to 4th place as they hold the tie-breaker over Philly. The reasons why that possibility should never see the light of day is due to Toronto’s absolute stranglehold they put on opposing offenses. If they lose both, Chicago has the opportunity to tie the Raptors by winning out both of their games and bumping Toronto back down to 6th due to the Bulls holding the tie-breaker.

Rockets Thoughts: More losses, more Jalen Green brilliance as ... (Chron)

The Rockets rookie has done something only Allen Iverson has accomplished in the past 40...

What I'd really like to see are extended minutes of Garuba and Sengun together because, in theory, Garuba has the tools to complement Sengun and mitigate some of his defensive weaknesses. Sengun likely will be the starter at center by then (I hope, gulp). And there's a decent chance that the team will use its first-round draft pick on one of either Chet Holmgren, Paolo Banchero or Jabari Smith Jr. And you'd think Rafael Stone will add a veteran to the mix, just as a stabilizing force. In the Rockets' 139-132 loss to the Timberwolves on Sunday night, the Rockets' rookie was again spectacular, scoring 31 points on 12-for-18 shooting from the floor and 4-for-8 on 3s. During that stretch, Iverson had games of 44 (twice), 40 (twice) and 50 points. What such performances do not prove, however - contrary to the assertions of some - is that he is the right point guard for this roster moving forward. It hits home because I've remarked over the years that I thought Iverson had the most electrifying rookie season of my lifetime. (That question is mainly posed in jest - there's a pretty decent chance he'd probably look terrible being suddenly thrust into action.) While Timberwolves center Karl Anthony Towns scored 28 points, Alperen Sengun convinced his coaching staff and teammates to abandon the game plan of doubling Towns on every possession. "I just told myself, I'm good, I'm so good of a passer, being aggressive, trying to score will open up these lanes to try to play-make. Over the course of nine game in April that season, Iverson averaged an astonishing 38.2 points and 8.3 assists on 49% shooting overall and 49.3% on 3s. Over his last 10 games, he has averaged 6.9 assists and 2.5 turnovers. Here's what we saw from the Rockets this week:

He had 18 of Toronto's 57 points in the first half, keeping the game competitive as Houston's lead grew. "It's all just competitive drive and I think the moment of the game overtakes them and they both start competing like heck." "Just whatever the defence gives me," said Trent Jr. when asked about how he approaches the game in the clutch. Toronto began to come to life in the second, as they outscored the Rockets in that quarter 37-30 and Siakam scoring 14 points in the period. "One of the things I always speak about is competitive drive. Trent Jr. and Raptors rookie Barnes combined to score 21 points in the fourth quarter with Barnes electrifying the sold out crowd of 19,800 in attendance at Scotiabank Arena with a fast-break dunk to put the Raptors up by four with just a few minutes to go followed up by Trent Jr.'s game-winning layup just a few minutes later.
