CALGARY FLAMES (42-19-9) AT SAN JOSE SHARKS (29-31-9)
3. Flames D Nikita Zadorov has 99 career NHL points while F Trevor Lewis skated in his 800th game. Tomas Hertl notched his 27th of the season while netminder James Reimer made 22 saves for the Sharks. It was their fourth straight loss (0-3-1). It’s one of the Flames’ three remaining back-to-back game sets and the last one was a double victory over the Arizona Coyotes and Edmonton Oilers at home on March 25 and 26.
Rudimentary defensive mistakes started creeping into Calgary's game, something Sutter simply won't tolerate. Well, if the last two games on the west coast or ...
As usual, Jacob Markstrom came up with some timely saves, particularly on Derek Grant and Dominik Simon early in the third to keep his side a goal ahead. Stone couldn’t have picked a better time to score his first in over a year. Michael Stone, in his 500th NHL game, unleashed a beast of a slapshot early in the third to score Calgary’s eventual game winner.

Less than 24 hours after beating the Anaheim Ducks, the Calgary Flames (42-19-9, 93 points) are back in action… this time in northern California.
Believe it or not, the Flames have lost all three of their previous games against San Jose in regulation. The Sharks have been a tough out all season, but the hope is by next season some of their key prospects will be able to take more prominent roles in the club and push them out of the league’s mushy middle and into playoff contention. The Flames are 8-4-1 this season in the second half of back-to-back sets, and oddly head coach Darryl Sutter rarely tinkers with his lineup on the backside of them. Less than 24 hours after beating the Anaheim Ducks, the Calgary Flames (42-19-9, 93 points) are back in action… We bet he does it, probably before the road trip ends. Oliver Kylington(unspecified injury) remains in Calgary.
It was a rocky road to reaching the 500 NHL game mark, but Michael Stone has been a consummate professional through each one of them. Skating in just.
Come playoff time, a deep roster will almost certainly be required, and it’s nice to know that Stone is not only comfortable playing his off-side, but can do it next to Tanev on the second pairing and perform very well. Being deployed heavily in the offensive zone isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you’re using those zone starts to drive scoring chances, and that’s exactly what this pairing has done. With four goals for and one goal against at 5v5 this season, the Stone-Tanev pairing’s 80% GF% is first on the team among qualifying pairings. In just seven games, this pairing has seen 44 scoring chances for and 20 high-danger chances for, an average of 6.2 SCF and 2.9 HDCF per game. Oliver Kylington has been a revelation for the Flames this season, playing very well alongside Tanev and providing a skillset this team is devoid of when he’s out of the lineup. That being said, this pairing has used their deployment extremely well and has put up exceptional possession numbers in their seven games so far.

The radio call will be streamed through the Sharks Audio Network. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET at SAP Center in San Jose, California. The Sharks can spoil their sweep with a win tonight, but the Pacific Division’s top dogs won’t make it easy. Before hitting the road for a final significant road trip of the season, the Calgary Flames are visiting SAP Center to take on the San Jose Sharks. The Flames have already trekked through SoCal, beating both the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings earlier this week.

The Calgary Flames have completed 70 games of their 2021-22 regular season schedule, the equivalent of nine seven game segments.
(Yikes.) (It could also be puck luck.) But all three pairs played well, and the biggest criticism you can have is that Tanev and Erik Gudbranson’s numbers dipped a bit because the penalty kill struggled. P/60 Sean Monahan going on long-term injury is unfortunate, but from a hockey perspective it makes it easier to have a functional fourth line. P/60 P If you place the playoff cut line at 95 points, the Flames would need about 81 points (81.1) after 70 games to be on track. (A few models are placing the playoff cut line lower than 95 points, so the Flames may or may not be at a playoff pace depending on whatever model you prefer to use.) They’re in very good shape, and virtually assured of a post-season berth. So far this season, the Flames have had one bad (sub-.500) segment, two segments right at .500, and seven segments above the .500 mark. At five-on-five they out-scored the opposition 21-11. Their tenth segment saw them go 4-2-1 over seven games, capturing 9 of a possible 14 points.

Games one and two were episodes of the Adin Hill Show. The Calgary Canucks alumni has a .9420 save percentage against the Flames over two games. Despite having a 5th ranked PK at 83.2% on the season, the Flames have went 77.77% in the last two outings. A goal and an assist from the veteran Micheal Stone. Easily his biggest game of the year. Let’s look at a few points about the game that was.
