Veteran center Greg Monroe will sign a contract with the Timberwolves that covers the final days of the regular season, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic. The move will cap off an active season for Monroe, who signed a 10-day contract with Minnesota in late December and spent time with the Wizards, Bucks and Jazz as well. That said, the Sabres have been better this year than they were last year, as their points percentage has jumped from .330 to .444. The last time the Sabres made the playoffs was the 2010-11 season and they lost in Game 7 of the first round to the Philadelphia Flyers. Their head coach was Lindy Ruff, their captain was Craig Rivet, Thomas Vanek led the team in scoring with 73 points and they went 3-0-1 against the Atlanta Thrashers. While this is the record for futility in the NHL, the Sabres are nowhere near setting a postseason drought record in all of North American major sports. It's also worth noting, though, that the Seahawks are believed to be one of several clubs keeping an eye on the Cleveland Browns while they still have 2018 first-overall draft pick Baker Mayfield on the roster following their trade for Deshaun Watson. Mayfield may be on track to remain attached to the Browns through the end of the draft unless Cleveland simply releases him beforehand. Paddack was selected by the Miami Marlins in the eighth round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft and was traded to San Diego for former three-time All-Star closer Fernando Rodney in June 2016. They may have to be creative to find a deal for the 33-year-old.

As usual, Jacob Markstrom came up with some timely saves, particularly on Derek Grant and Dominik Simon early in the third to keep his side a goal ahead.
