Also known as "Mad Dog", he is the current and longest-reigning WWE Universal Champion in his second reign, as well as the current WWE Champion in his fourth reign—making him a double world champion. His WWE profile presents the wrestling star as the ultimate opponent, stating: "Glory to The Conqueror, The Beast Incarnate, The Anomaly or whatever godlike title you choose to bestow upon Brock Lesnar. Surely, this creature fits each and every one of them. The site adds: "Whether it was finishing opposing teams off as the enforcer of The Shield or steadily grinding his way toward the WWE Championship as a solo competitor, Reigns has made a lasting impression on anyone who's come into contact with him." The stakes had never been higher, as both the WWE and Universal Championships were for the taking in a "Winner Takes All" match. So with a brace of world titles and professional wrestling reputations in jeopardy, tensions were running high ahead of the headline fight. WrestleMania 38 came to an abrupt end with its main event between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, and there's speculation regarding why.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful noted that Reigns lifted both titles not long after all this and that the wrestler looked fine. At the same time, it seems odd that a scripted injury and not an actual one would lead to the abrupt end of a WrestleMania main event with time to spare. A compilation of photos from Wrestling News pointed out what looked to be some heavy swelling on Roman Reigns’ arm, and something does seem off about the champion’s tricep, though it's hard to tell how much the lights play into it.
Footage has shown that Brock Lesnar was checking on Roman Reigns at the end of their WWE WrestleMania match after Reigns' rough injury scare.

The main event of WrestleMania 38 Night Two saw Reigns defeat Brock Lesnar in a brutal Winner Takes All Title Unification bout.

As Theory and McMahon celebrated, the boss' old rival, Texas hero and professional wrestling icon Stone Cold Steve Austin made his way to the ring. McAfee, as he was celebrating, challenged McMahon to step into the ring. Lesnar, despite the cheap shots, was still able to kick out of Reigns' pin after the referee regained his composure. Lesnar countered a third Superman Punch by taking Reigns to Suplex City and later landed an F-5, however, Reigns kicked out of the ensuing pin attempt. The Beast was in control during the opening moments until Reigns' special counsel Paul Heyman started to distract his former client Lesnar outside the ring. The bout, which was advertised as the biggest WrestleMania match of all time, was a winner takes all unification match.

When the match was over, Edge and Priest stood in the ring together, apparently beginning to form the heel faction that had been rumored. Riddle hit a springboard RKO on Montez Ford from the top rope and Orton followed that up by turning Chad Gable’s leap from the top into a catch RKO and a pin. His WrestleMania entrance included him coming up in a black chair surrounded by fire and black-and-purple ring gear that appeared to be a nod to The Undertaker. There was a bowling ball, a giant hand that slapped Zayn (who also got slammed by Wee Man) on the outside, a nut-shot machine with a boot on it and a giant mousetrap (that didn’t work properly). Knoxville, who did take an exploder suplex through a table and hit a tornado DDT, eventually got the mousetrap to close and trap Zayn for the pin. The boss, who got his first WrestleMania win in his first match since 2012, kicked a football into McAfee’s ribs. Edge recently turned heel, changing his music, look and demeanor to a more Brood-like presentation. The Universal champion got to the ropes, but Lesnar continued to move Reigns’ arm up and down while still in the hold. McMahon’s may have been the most awkward in history as he just crumpled to the ground. He then got too cocky and egged on Mr. McMahon, who is in incredible shape, into a fight. Then Theory was a footnote in the Austin-McMahon story — through he did an incredible pop-up sell job on a Stunner from the Texas Rattlesnake. One thing Theory has going for him is he has a high level of heat that was palpable from the crowd. His moment of ascending to undisputed champion in WWE will not be one of them — but an injury could be partly to blame. Here are the highlights from Night 2 of WrestleMania 2022 that featured solid matches, great celebrity outings and a Mr. McMahon-sized touch of nostalgia:

It would be the biggest match the WWE could produce, and the backstory of how this point is reached is clearly defined. While some may look at the fact that WWE's failure to create new stars and worthy challengers for Roman Reigns along the way as the reason this match is even needed, one cannot argue the appeal this would have, to both casual and committed viewers. Throwing in a Bloodline versus Imperium storyline with a few six-man tag matches on the way to the championship match, at The Royal Rumble or The Elimination Chamber, on the road to next year's WrestleMania would be intriguing, as well. In what would be a match pitting Roman against an opponent more powerful than him, the prospects of Bobby Lashley stepping up to challenge Reigns is one too good to pass on. Gunther could match Roman in the power department making their head-to-head battle a true battle of the titans. Money In The Bank in July now has its main event match, and Roman Reigns has a new, fresh & exciting opponent on the road to SummerSlam. The yet-to-be-named UK event in September would be a great place for it. A matchup of the two biggest stars in the company over the last two years. Randy Orton and Roman Reigns have had multiple encounters in the past, but this meeting would be the first time their roles would be reversed: Orton, the babyface. With two to three months of successful title defenses under his belt, Ricochet's credibility would be restored to the point where a one-on-one encounter with Roman Reigns wouldn't be dismissed. As such, WWE has a ready-made storyline on its hands with Riddle & Orton, and this matchup versus Roman Reigns could be used as a means to get there. With his successful defense of the title against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38, Reigns is now the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, having defeated seemingly every possible challenger for his throne, and in some instances, in a rather dominant fashion.
