During the latter, H.E.R. jumped behind a glitter-covered drum kit and demolished a drum solo. The track has been covered by many artists throughout the years,  including everyone from Metallica to Spice Girl Mel B. Travis Barker, Lenny Kravitz and H. E.R. performed Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way" at the 2022 Grammy Awards. H.E.R. and Kravitz both shredded through the song as though their lives depended on it.

E.R was nominated for several awards this year: Album of the Year and Best R&B Album for Back of My Mind, Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for “Damage,” plus a Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song nod for “Hold Us Together (Hope Mix)” with Tauren Wells. Her Judas and the Black Messiah song “Fight for You” won Best Traditional R&B Performance and was nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media. With Jam and Lewis, she opened with “Damage.” Barker joined for “We Made It,” and she closed with a Kravitz-assisted rendition of “Are You Gonna Go My Way.” Check it happen below. H. Before long, H.E.R. segued into a high-energy “Are You Gonna Go My Way” performance with help from Kravitz and Barker on drums.

H. E.R.’s debut album, Back of My Mind, will vie for the Grammy album of the year trophy later tonight. The artist has an extensive tour on tap this spring and summer in support of Back of My Mind, which peaked at No. 6 on The Billboard 200. The performance began with H. E.R. (real name: Gabriella Wilson) joined by Minneapolis production legends Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for her song “Damage,” which was nominated tonight for best R&B performance but lost out to Jazmine Sullivan’s “Pick Up Your Feelings.”

Speaking to Billboard, H. E.R opened up about her songwriting process: “Everything that I’ve released represents me,” she began. H. E.R opened the performance alone on stage dressed in a glittering purple suit. The musician was also nominated for Album of the Year for Back Of My Mind, but the award ended up going to We Are by Jon Batiste. Back Of My Mind also lost out on Best R&B album to Jazmine Sullivan’s Heaux Tales. While ‘Damage’ was nominated for Best R&B performance, it lost to a tie between Sullivan’s ‘Pick Up Your Feelings’ and ‘Leave The Door Open’. Her single ‘Fight For You’ won Best Traditional R&B Performance, but lost out to Silk Sonic’s ‘Leave the Door Open’ when it came to Song Of The Year, for which H.E.R was also nominated. H. E.R was then joined on stage by fellow drummer Travis Barker and rock icon Lenny Kravitz, with whom she performed a cover of Kravitz’s 1993 hit ‘Are You Gonna Go My Way?’. In the trio’s hands, the Grammys became an immersive rock concert, with H.E.R and Kravitz trading guitar riffs over Barker’s thrashing drums. Flanked by a keytarist and bassist decked out in two-tone suits, she kicked off with a rendition of ‘Damage’ from her debut studio album, Back of My Mind. After successfully wowing the crowd with her velvet-lined vocal runs, she took to a drum kit to deliver an earth-shattering solo.
