How to Livestream the 2022 Grammys (Vanity Fair)

Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, and BTS are among the performers on music's biggest night.

If you’re eager to get your awards-show Sunday started even earlier, Live From E!: Countdown to the Grammys airs at 4 p.m. E.T./1 p.m. P.T., featuring comedian Nikki Glaser and Grammy-nominated artist Ester Dean. As such, most categories will not be announced during the live telecast. This year’s telecast will also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Other streaming options include Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, DirectTV Stream, Sling TV, and FuboTV, most of which have free-trial options. Olivia Rodrigo and newly minted Oscar winner Billie Eilish, each up for seven awards, will perform. This year, the Recording Academy will be bestowing honors in a staggering 86 categories. (The full list of nominations can be found here.) Let’s be honest: We all view the Grammys as an unofficial concert. Two-time Grammy winner Lil Nas X, nominated in five categories, will take the stage, as will six-time Grammy winner Brandi Carlile, up for five awards of her own, and 12-time winner Lady Gaga, nominated for her latest record with Tony Bennett. Here’s how to livestream the 64th Grammy Awards. Those searching for their pre-show fashion fix can watch the Live From E!: Grammys red carpet coverage at 6 p.m. E. T./3 p.m. P.T., hosted by Laverne Cox and featuring Queer Eye’s Karamo, style correspondent Zanna Roberts Rassi, and pop culture commentator Naz Perez. Live From E! Stream: Grammys, begins at 7 p.m. E.T./4 p.m. P.T. on most of the E! social channels, YouTube, eonline.com, and the E! News app. Questions about the ceremony abound: Who will win best new artist? The 2022 Grammys air on Sunday, April 3, on CBS. Those with a cable subscription can watch the ceremony live on television at their local CBS affiliate, or online at cbs.com, or through the CBS app.

This Year's Grammys Owe More to TikTok Than Ever Before (Slate Magazine)

The biggest and brightest star of that pack is Olivia Rodrigo, who first saw TikTok traffic for her debut single “Drivers License” last January; currently, ...

Examples this year of artists whose TikTok hits were nominated in the big categories include Billie Eilish (“Happier Than Ever”), Doja Cat (“Kiss Me More”), and Lil Nas X (“Montero [Call Me By Your Name]”), the artist whose gigantic career breakthrough in 2019 can be directly attributed to the platform. In January 2021, Saweetie released a song practically tailor-made for TikTok popularity: “Best Friend,” which landed a Best Rap Song nomination this year. It appears in 1.2 million videos on the app, most of them featuring people riffing on the line “that’s my type.” From there, she found her biggest TikTok success off “Tap In,” which now features in 3.5 million videos. After the song’s release in June 2020, it became the subject of—no surprise here— a dance trend started by TikTok user Lesley Gonzalez. Like many TikTok dances, the moves were inspired by the song’s lyrics. This trend, which helped boost the single’s visibility in November 2021, was built around a transition where, in some videos, the users brush their teeth as Keem raps “wake up in the morning/ brush my teeth before I see my queen;” some creators used the transition to show the before and after of them getting ready, in others, a person is joined by someone else immediately after the beat drop, and they lip sync to the line, “wow, who are you?” The nominee with the most TikTok cred thus far, however, is the Bay Area rapper Saweetie. Her single “My Type” went viral in 2019. “Heartbreak Anniversary” is a slow R&B ballad, but thanks to Filipino creator Marc Daniel Bernardo, who came up with the dance and performed it with his dance partner Katkat Manimtim in February 2021 (a year after the song’s release), the song became one of the app’s more enduring tracks last year. Fellow Bieber collaborator The Kid Laroi first made waves on TikTok back in December 2020 with the breakup ballad “Without You,” which now appears in more than 2.4 million videos. The song spread when creators started to use a snippet of the song’s (very problematic) line, “so there you go/ can’t make a wife out of a ho.” Creators mainly used this line for comedic effect, as an ironic reaction to a situation described in the caption of the videos, with some using the audio to call out misogyny. Nowhere is that more obvious than within the Best New Artist category, in which more than half of the nominees have at one point or another soundtracked users For You Pages. The biggest and brightest star of that pack is Olivia Rodrigo, who first saw TikTok traffic for her debut single “Drivers License” last January; currently, there are 1.4 million videos using the song and counting. Giveon’s “Heartbreak Anniversary,” a nominee in the Best R&B Song category, featured in an internationally popular dance trend on the app, with people performing a dance routine loosely based on the songs lyrics in front of a partner or others, with some of those dance videos ending up with millions of views. Sour, the album from which her TikTok hits came, landed an Album of the Year nomination after a massive opening on the Billboard charts.

How to Watch the Grammys 2022: Live Stream, TV & More (TeenVogue.com)

The 64th annual Grammy Awards has been long-awaited, as the show was originally scheduled to take place on January 31, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. However, ...

Comedian and The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, who hosted the 2021 Grammy Awards, will return to host this year's show. The full list of performers taking the Grammys stage this Sunday are as follows: BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow, Billie Eilish, H. E.R., Jon Batiste, Brothers Osborne, Brandi Carlile, John Legend, Lady Gaga, Nas, Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood, and J Balvin with Maria Becerra. (Last year's ceremony was also postponed and rescheduled, from January to March, as COVID-19 cases spiked in Los Angeles.) The General Field, commonly known as the “Big Four" categories, consists of Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. For 2022, the number of nominees was expanded from eight artists to ten. The 64th Grammy Awards will begin live at 8 P. M. ET. Below, learn all the info you need about this year's show, and find out how to watch the 2022 Grammys. (Check out the full list of nominees here.)

Rodrigo has Song of the Year in the bag. The understated yet punch-packed “Happier Than Ever” is the obvious choice given Eilish has become a Grammy darling over the past two years, but “Sour” ushered in one of the most promising acts since, well, Eilish herself. Album of the Year is always a toss-up (remember when Beck somehow, someway beat Beyoncé in 2015?), and this year will be no different. Two and a half minutes into what starts as a bare-bones acoustic ballad, Eilish turns things up 15 notches and launches into an absolute headbanger more monstrous than anything the Best Rock nominees have put out in years. “Drivers License” was one of the top songs of 2021 for a reason. If all goes to plan for Olivia Rodrigo at the 2022 ceremony, she could become the next to achieve the feat.

Whether or not K-pop sensation BTS will be performing is also up in the air, after several members of the group tested positive for COVID-19. Academy members then vote in the nominating process, and again in the final voting process, where Grammy winners are selected. The big four categories – album of the year, record of the year, song of the year and best new artist – have each been expanded to include 10 nomination slots, up from the original eight. There are 14 Canadian contenders for Grammys. They include Daniel Caesar, who has been nominated five times this year. Each has been nominated for seven Grammy awards. Grammy nominee Kanye West has been banned from performing, and a slew of nominated musicians, including Drake and The Foo Fighters, have bowed out. Jazz singer and pianist Jon Batiste leads with 11 nominations, while Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and H. E.R. have each been nominated for eight awards. Canadians can watch the main show on Paramount+ or Apple TV+, or by using VPNs to access American streaming services. Sunday’s 64th annual event will shine a spotlight on the accomplishments of talented musicians from around the globe. For the first time, the Grammys will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, three months after the pandemic forced the Recording Academy to reschedule the event from Jan. 31. The Grammys are upon us. Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell will be presenting at the show, alongside Megan Thee Stallion, Questlove, Lenny Kravitz, Dua Lipa, Ludacris, Billy Porter, Bonnie Raitt, Keith Urban, Kelsea Ballerini, Avril Lavigne and actors Jared Leto, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Anthony Mackie.

If Finneas O'Connell wins Album of the Year at the 2022 Grammys, it'd be his first time being recognized sans his sister Billie Eilish's work.

He also worked with Bieber on his album Justice, which is up for a Grammy this year. The 2022 Grammy Awards are almost here, with the Recording Academy releasing the list of nominees in 2021. The two worked together for the whole of When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which topped U. S. and UK charts. Clocking in at just 37 seconds, “Beautiful Trip” is historically the shortest song to ever chart on the Billboard Hot 100. O’Connell, also known by his stage name of FINNEAS, has been tied to his sister’s work for the most part. His biggest threat is a sentimental sweep for Bennett and Gaga. And it certainly doesn’t hurt that he is a well-liked musician’s musician who has played the game perfectly in his Grammy campaign. And really, there are no clear favorites in the top categories, which should make for a few surprises when the envelopes are at long last opened. Will win, should win: Batiste. Leading with 11 nominations for the kind of prestige project that Grammy voters feel good about acknowledging, Batiste is hard to beat. Will win: Drake. Cardi and Megan will split the female vote, and Drizzy will come pimp-strollng through with the sexiness. Will win: McCartney. If the voting had been within the last week, it would be the Foos all the way after the sudden death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. But otherwise, there’s no way to compete with the living Beatles legend. Will win: Bennett and Gaga. There’s no way the Recording Academy is not going to pay a Big 4 salute to the legendary Bennett, who, suffering from Alzheimer’s disease at 95, will be watching from his New York City home while Gaga reps for both of them at the Grammys. And while they’ve also got a shot at winning Album of the Year, with no clear favorite in this category, they’ve got an even better chance here.

Live updates: Grammys 2022 red carpet and performances (The Washington Post)

Join us as we watch the 64th Academy Awards on Sunday night, and follow along for live updates and analysis of the award winners and best performances.

Unsurprisingly, “Folklore” won album of the year at last year’s Grammys, and if “Evermore” repeats the feat this year, it’ll make 2022 feel like 2021, but also like 2020, potentially cinching pandemic spacetime into a Gordian knot from which we may never be released: Taylortime, all the time, evermore, for real. Improving inclusivity is a noble and essential goal for the Recording Academy, but Grammy night is fundamentally about prestige — and the only way to transform something inherently exclusive into something more inclusive is by inviting new people and dismissing the same-olds. The idea here is that “bigger” means “more inclusive,” which doesn’t really make sense.

Grammys 2022: The night's best, worst and most quotable moments (The Globe and Mail)

Jon Batiste cleaned up, Justin Bieber got shut out, and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky made a pre-taped appearance on music's biggest night.

For his partially censored performance of the song Peaches with fellow Canadian Daniel Caesar, Bieber wore a baseball cap backward. Putting the extra in extravaganza: When host Trevor Noah of The Daily Show said early on that the broadcast would be a “concert where we’re giving out awards,” he wasn’t lying. Leto’s speech was disconnected from the moment at hand. Host Trevor Noah: “Everybody wants to win. After an extended tribute to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died last month, respect was shown to musical luminaries including Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, singer Ronnie Spector and Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim. All were remembered in song by Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., Ben Platt and Rachel Zegler. The 64th annual Grammys was delayed by three months because of COVID-19 concerns and moved to MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas from its traditional home in Los Angeles. The first statuette went to retro-pop duo Silk Sonic for Song of the Year (a songwriters award, for Leave the Door Open, which also took Record of the Year, a performance and production honor). The final award, Album of the Year, was won by Jon Batiste for We Are (Batiste, the night’s big winner, also took home four other trophies). In between, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, delivered a powerful pre-recorded address.

Grammys 2022: The 20 Best, Worst, and Most WTF Moments (Rolling Stone)

Billie Eilish's stunning performance with Finneas was one of Sunday's clear highlights. Emma McIntyre/Getty Images for The Recording Academy. After a 2021 ...

It was a crazier getup than anything he wore in House of Gucci, and he read his Best Pop Vocal Album speech in the same cadence as someone delivering a hostage video, complete with a dead-on-arrival joke about agents. The fact that he was completely (and absurdly) shut out in the five categories he was nominated in only seemed to reaffirm his status as one of modern pop’s spiciest provocateurs. As the heartbeat of the music in the Disney Pixar film Soul and the bandleader of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jon Batiste is undeniably gifted. The Grammys as a whole already deserved a “worst” half a year ago when they announced a number of questionable nominations for artists who have been accused of problematic behavior. If you’re gonna stalk your ex, you typically don’t want to get out of your car and wake up the neighborhood by belting a song literally about stalking your ex. The Grammy censors weren’t quick enough to catch Doja Cat when she admitted to having just returned from a remarkably fast “piss” to grab her award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with SZA for “Kiss Me More,” hilariously adjusting the crotch of her garment and all. In fairness, the In Memoriam segment is always a challenge, especially during a year in which we lost massive figures such as Ronnie Spector, Charlie Watts, Meat Loaf, Vicente Fernández, and Taylor Hawkins. But come on, folks — some of these were flat-out careless. Last year, BTS joined the Grammys live from a rooftop in Seoul, proving that “Dynamite” is simply too catchy to be bounded by the traditional rules of time and space. Not even pouring rain — or the fact that she would walk away with zero trophies among the seven she was nominated for, an egregious shutout given the year she had — could ruin the good time she was having on top of a prop mobile home as she belted, “Just leave me aloooo-ho-ho-hone.” But she didn’t lose herself completely; she still remembered to hold up her T-shirt, repping late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, sharing in her triumph. The fact that J Balvin was the only Latin artist to lead a performance on the main stage was beyond embarrassing, especially since the telecast skipped all the Latin categories this year. The repeat Best Pop Duo/Group Performance nominees went full Mission: Impossible this time for “Butter,” starting with an elaborate framing device that involved lasers, computers, and a priceless moment in the audience between V and Olivia Rodrigo (quick, give them both Best Supporting Awards-Show Actor statues!) — and proceeding to remind us that BTS are quite possibly the seven sleekest-grooving, sharpest-dressed, most absurdly magnetic people on the planet. Seriously. We never need to read another word of commentary about the true meaning of the Slap, let alone hear a hacky joke about it at another awards show.

Grammys 2022: Pop artists split big wins as Nashville celebrates ... (The Tennessean)

As Jon Batiste, Silk Sonic and Olivia Rodrigo took the biggest prizes, Chris Stapleton and Brothers Osborne helped Nashville shine on Grammy night.

"To God be the glory," she said. She wasn't in attendance on Sunday, but posted a video message with "Believe For It" producer/songwriter Kyle Lee. The Nashville gospel great swept her three categories with wins for album "Believe For It" and two separate album tracks. "I never thought that I would be able to do music professionally because of my sexuality," Osborne said in his acceptance speech. "The creative arts are subjective, and they reach people at a point in their lives when they need it most." At that moment, he became the first openly gay artist to be currently signed to a major country label. Host Trevor Noah kept it short: "We’re gonna be keeping people’s names out of our mouths," he quipped. But the night was mostly a bust for Nashville artists, at least in terms of prominent wins. I think it just focuses where you would hit me." And everybody in this room has made some kind of a sacrifice to be up here doing this. They're four years old...So I'm thinking a lot about sacrifices, I think, because I missed out on some of their birthday today. The competition was unusually thick at this year’s show, led by several acts that would seem like obvious frontrunners on their own.

Grammys 2022: 12 things to know, from slap jokes to one surprising ... (The Washington Post)

The 2022 Grammy Awards were light on surprises (except one) but had performances from Lady Gaga, Silk Sonic, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, BTS and more.

When their names were called, SZA made it to the stage solo with the help of crutches (and a dress assist from fellow nominee Gaga) while Doja Cat rushed in from off-camera. There was a lot going on in Lady Gaga’s frenzied tribute to her good pal and singing partner Tony Bennett — and not all of it good. Plenty of her contemporaries went home with less, but Rodrigo was seen as the ascendant star heading into the night and had good odds of being anointed by the Recording Academy as a big deal to be reckoned with at future ceremonies. The Recording Academy really likes Silk Sonic. The duo that is Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak opened the show with a tune apt for the Las Vegas setting: “777,” an ode to Sin City and the promise of winning big. The pair went on to win in four categories — song of the year, record of the year, best R&B song and, in a tie with Jazmine Sullivan, best R&B performance — all for their soulful single “Leave the Door Open.” The romantic track, from the pair’s debut album “An Evening With Silk Sonic,” was notably introduced at last year’s ceremony. But as The Washington Post’s pop music critic Chris Richards said, “It is power-to-the-people music that the people can listen to at brunch.”
