Police have charged a 20-year-old man with second-degree murder after finding dismembered body of his mother in a plastic bag Monday.

On Saturday, police arrested Dallas Ly and charged him with second-degree murder. Police found the body of Tien Ly, a 46-year-old Toronto manicurist near Eastern and Berkshire avenues. There were “obvious” signs of trauma to her body, including dismemberment, police said.

Toronto police responded to a call in the area of Eastern Avenue and Berkshire Avenue after a member of the public discovered a body in a garbage bag.

A worker at the salon told Global News he had painted the distinctive design on Tien Ly’s nails. “Through investigation, it was determined Dallas Ly was responsible for the death of Tien Ly,” Toronto police alleged Sunday in a media release. Images were also shared of a red, long sleeve Armani Exchange shirt she wore.

Const. Laura Brabant, spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service, said initially Ly was not a suspect. "I don't know when the turning point occurred, when he became a suspect." Her body showed signs of trauma and some dismemberment.
