Liverpool take on Watford as Jurgen Klopp's side look to go top of the Premier League. A victory would see Liverpool move two points ahead of Manchester ...

Will Jurgen Klopp's side go top of the table or will Watford spring a surprise? Jurgen Klopp's side ran out 5-0 winners when these sides met at Vicarage Road earlier in the season, but they won't be taking anything for granted as It looks as if Gomez will be at right-back today as Alexander-Arnold is only on the bench. Watford have made it difficult for Jurgen Klopp's team at times, but as things stand Liverpool will be going top of the league. Watford then create a chance themselves, with the ball falling to Sarr, whose effort goes over. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones all start as Liverpool make four changes from their last Premier League game. Liverpool certainly have had things their own way and Kamara is working hard as he looks to stop Salah from making a major impact. Following the subsequent corner Cucho Hernandez requires treatment following a clash of heads. It's expected that Salah will be replaced soon, with Sadio Mane poised to enter the fray. Watford then miss an excellent chance, with Sarr playing in Joao Pedro, who drags his effort wide. 65 mins: Fabinho plays a neat pass in towards Salah, whose effort goes just over. 82 mins: Jurgen Klopp looks a little concerned, with victory still not secure for his side.

That comes between two matches against Benfica in the Champions League quarterfinals. Jota darted across the face of the six-yard box and glanced in a header from a right-wing cross by Joe Gomez in the 22nd minute at Anfield. The ball immediately got transferred forward by Liverpool and Gomez, starting ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold at right back, curled in a pinpoint cross for Jota, who got ahead of goalkeeper Ben Foster to find the net.

Diogo Jota helps see off Watford as Liverpool make it 10 in a row (The Guardian)

Goals from Diogo Jota and Fabinho saw Liverpool beat Watford 2-0 for a 10th successive Premier League win.

Substitute Fabinho swept the penalty into the top corner and Liverpool into pole position. The visitors possessed a clear threat too, on the break and from set pieces, and performed with a composure that belied their lowly league position. Jota, keeping his eye on the ball and not on the keeper soaring towards him, bravely flicked home his 20th goal in all competitions this season. Cucho Hernández had another decent chance for Watford when connecting with Imran Louza’s corner to the near post. Their three clean sheets in the league this season have all come on Roy Hodgson’s watch and, with trusted assistant Ray Lewington alongside him, the former Liverpool manager oversaw a typically well-drilled defensive display from his team. Jürgen Klopp’s team were far from their fluid, dominant best against relegation-threatened Watford but that was an irrelevance alongside a 10th successive league win that took Liverpool top before Manchester City’s visit to Burnley.

The cross by Gomez was very much like one you would see from Liverpool's usual right-back. After a very good chance for Watford at the other end just before, a beautiful cross by Joe Gomez, who is standing in for Trent Alexander-Arnold, found the head of Diogo Jota. A win would see Jurgen Klopp's men go two points clear of Manchester City.

Liverpool can rely on Diogo Jota as Mo Salah struggles to get over ... (ESPN)

LIVERPOOL, England -- Mohamed Salah played like a man who had just missed out on World Cup qualification as Liverpool made it 10 successive Premier League ...

But if Salah is unable to rediscover his form and sharpness in the weeks ahead, Liverpool at least know that Jota is ready, willing and able to fill the void -- a point he made with his headed goal. But while Salah deals with the angst of missing out on AFCON glory and World Cup qualification, Liverpool can rely on Jota. And that's why they are now one step closer to an unprecedented quadruple. The Portugal international scored both in a 2-0 win against Leicester and has also netted the crucial openers in wins against Arsenal, Nottingham Forest (in the FA Cup) and in this game against Watford. To suffer a similar heavy blow so soon afterward -- one that may have denied Salah his final chance to play at the World Cup after his Russia 2018 campaign was marred by the aftereffects of a shoulder injury -- will undoubtedly weigh heavily on Salah, and it was evident against Watford that the forward was nowhere near his best form. But he has also lost his edge in Liverpool's big games, with his goals since returning from AFCON duty coming against Leeds, Norwich, Brighton and one against Inter Milan. Every player has off days, even supreme talents like Salah, but with Liverpool still chasing a quadruple this season, they need their talisman to shake off his World Cup hangover quickly.

Man City, Liverpool both win in EPL; Brentford stuns Chelsea (TSN)

Liverpool completed its 119-day mission to displace Manchester City from atop the English Premier League. It lasted only a matter of hours.

We have to feel the pressure, we have to handle it. What we did in the past, when we won 14 games in a row, now we have to win eight, otherwise we will not be champions.” Only Beckham, with 18, has scored more direct free kick goals in Premier League history than Ward-Prowse, who has moved on to 13. Liverpool and City have games in the Champions League quarterfinals on Tuesday before what could yet be a decisive meeting at City's Etihad Stadium five days later. Ilkay Gundogan scored the other goal. “I really appreciate the situation we are in," said Klopp, who has already led Liverpool to the League Cup title and the latter stages of the FA Cup and Champions League. “I told the boys yesterday, if somebody would have told us in the summer that end of March, early April (we would be) in the situation we are in — in all competitions, won one trophy and a full squad available — we all would have taken it, absolutely.

And before the season is out, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Portugal international claim another header or two. And his goal against Watford was evidence of this, as he got in front of Christian Kabasele and Kiko to plant Gomez’s cross past Foster. Jota has had a very good season for Liverpool, and the £45m the club paid for him seems like a bargain in hindsight. Many of the headers he’s scored this season are a result of Jota anticipating where the cross is going to go and getting there ahead of his marker. The Portuguese forward met Joe Gomez’s teasing cross to head the ball past Watford stopper Ben Foster to give Liverpool the opener and put them on their way to all three points at the start of what is sure to be a monumental next four weeks for the club.

Diogo Jota gives Liverpool huge transfer boost as Jürgen Klopp has ... (Liverpool.com)

The Good, Bad and Ugly: Liverpool battled past a stubborn Watford side to briefly claim top spot, with Diogo Jota scoring a key goal for Jürgen Klopp.

Ben Foster was a little off his line — shockingly, he was not expecting an awkward half-volley from all of 30 yards, with the striker’s body shape all wrong. The upshot is that he has scored two non-penalty goals in his last 11 Liverpool outings, a remarkable slowing-down compared to his best-in-the-world early season form. Indeed, Fabinho is strengthening his case to be the main taker with every penalty kick he converts. His goal summed up the benefits of having him on the left. He has been making waves through the middle, but he proved he can be equally effective from a wide base. Joe Gomez was superb as a Trent Alexander-Arnold understudy, while Fabinho injected calmness (and an excellent penalty) upon his introduction to proceedings.
