Mike Smith starts for the Oilers in net. The Oilers are looking to make it three in a row with a visit from the Blues tonight. The Oilers will have their hands full with a stout Blues offence featuring four 20+ goal scorers.
Beyond the Colorado Avalanche and Calgary Flames leading their respective divisions, the NHL's Western Conference playoff races remain fairly wide open.
The NHL uses a draft lottery to determine the order at the top of the first round, so the team that finishes in last place is not guaranteed the No. 1 selection. As of 2021, a team may move up a maximum of 10 spots if it wins the lottery, so only 11 teams are eligible for the draw for the No. 1 pick. The Oilers appear to have a solid grip on a spot in the No. 2 vs. These two clubs met on Nov. 14 in St. Louis, with the Oilers taking a 5-4 victory thanks to a final-minute goal from Kailer Yamamoto. Four weeks from today we'll have much more clarity on the first-round matchups, but hey, maybe tonight's matchups will provide some clues as well. Check out some of the best goals from the NHL in March, including Matt Duchene's ridiculous between-the-legs goal.

The Oilers' next big game is against the Los Angeles Kings, the team they are battling with for home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. These ...
This was a fast-paced and very entertaining game, and Oilers fans should be okay with one point on the road against the top team in the league. Since the last time these teams met, Jay Woodcroft has the Oilers on the right track, and they are now dominant at home, where this final game between the teams will take place. Either way, the Oilers will be looking to play hard in this one to give themselves every opportunity to play games in May and beyond. Though the Kings have a better road record than home record this season, they will still feel the advantage of playing at home and avoid any momentum gained by the Oilers if they play two games at home to start. The Oilers have won eight in a row at home, one off their franchise record, so they would love to have the first two games in their home arena in the first round. The top three teams in each division are a lock to make the playoffs, so if the Oilers fall out, the Golden Knights are now the only realistic team to kick them out.
They rank fifth in goals/game at 3.52, and possess the third best power play at 26.2%. Their leading point producer, Jordan Kyrou, sits 40th in NHL scoring with ...
the Kings. Brassard had the only shot and he played the fewest minutes (6:03). Archibald’s inability to travel will force him to sit out at least seven games this month, and likely more. — I won’t be surprised if Woodcroft re-inserts Zack Kassian and Devin Shore in the lineup tonight. Woodcroft has stated many times he wants to keep players in the rotation. Auston Matthews reached 50 goals for the first time in his career last night. McDavid turned 25 in January and seems destined to join Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky in the ultra-rare 100-points-in-10-seasons club. Charlie Lindgren (5) and Joel Hofer (1), started the others due to injuries and COVID. However, Husso has started 20 of the past 30 Blues games. — Jordan Binnington has started 30 games for the Blues while Ville Husso has started 29. The Oilers had 15 (45.5% of their total shots), while the Kings had 11 (34.4% of their shots). The Kings took way more shots from distance, often without traffic in front of Mikko Koskinen, and the Oilers gladly let that happen. It was the third time in the previous five games the Oilers have allowed two goals in fewer than 25 seconds. Koskinen started seven in a row (after Mike Smith was injured) between October 21st and November 5th. It happened against Dallas, Calgary and LA. It is a trend head coach Jay Woodcroft wants to remain in the month of March and not cross over into April. I noticed many from outside the blue line, so I went through the game sheet and added up all the shots.
Game Day 69: Oilers vs Blues This in, projected lines for the Edmonton Oilers tonight against the St. Louis Blues.

He’s having his worst season in the NHL since 2007-08, when he had a .893 save percentage in 13 games for Tampa. This year he’s at .896 for the Oilers in 19 games, with Koskinen at .902 in 40 games and Stuart Skinner at .913 in 13 games. If he can find the form he had all of last season — not so very long ago — Smith is still the Oil’s best bet for the playoffs. I’d have gone to Skinner by now, as he’s crushing it in the AHL, but I can also see the argument for making sure if Smith can recover or not. If he can’t the Oilers can then go with other options in the playoffs. If he’s not getting much done on the attack and his a defensive liability, he had better be a major physical force, but he’s not been that either.
The Edmonton Oilers host the St. Louis Blues down at Rogers Place tonight in a NHL regular season game, as they both look of a win.
Leon Draisaitl looking at the goal scoring race and seeing Matthews at the top is only going to push him to try and score more goals. With the Oilers playing against a solid goalie they need to not fall behind cause of a weak goal against. This is going to be a game where the Edmonton Oilers defense and goalie need to play a solid game. Looking at the standings, the Edmonton Oilers will have to collapse to fall out of their spot. This is going to be the toughest opponent they have played at home since the start of this streak. The Pacific Division is just as tight of a race.
