Edmonton Oilers outlast L.A. Kings in shootout (Globalnews.ca)

The Edmonton Oilers won their eighth-straight home game Wednesday night with a 4-3 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings at Rogers Place.

However, the Kings challenged for goalie interference and Puljujarvi was found guilty of shoving Kings defenceman Tobias Bjornfot into Quick. His pass from behind the net went in off Kings winger Alex Iafallo. The Oilers responded when Cody Ceci drilled a shot past Kings netminder Jonathan Quick for his fifth.

Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid both scored in regulation as well as the shootout as the Oilers earned a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings in Edmonton on ...

Los Angeles started the scoring three minutes into the game with a goal on its first shot. I thought we showed great resiliency coming back from 3-1, but I think we needed to complete the full comeback." "We won the game and, for us, that was the important thing. They're right behind us in the standings and we want to make the gap bigger. It was a big two points for us." It was a tight game, back and forth," Draisaitl said.

'They get a lot of juice on home ice and we're going to need it down the stretch because we're going to see some tough games'

“I think it’s really important,” said Woodcroft. “We want to make sure this building’s one where opposing teams know they’re going to be in for one when they come here to play the Oilers and that’s also a credit to our players because they’re making it a difficult place to play. “We’re a team that is representative of the community we play in front of,” said Woodcroft. “We want to build a hard-working identity where we’re getting the most out of people and people work for each other. “The guys talk about wanting to establish that identity of this being a hard building to play in, in front of our fans and against us. We want to make this building a tough building for other teams to come in to and a hard building to play in. It’s crucial to capitalize on home ice.” Edmonton has just two wins in the last eight road games, which is something that needs to be addressed, but that’s a story for another day. “And for the players, it’s about establishing our game right off the bat and trying to assert a way the game is going to be played. But being on the ice, and on the right side of the fans, is an especially cool feeling for the Stony Plain product. We play in front of the best fans in the world. We want to make sure opponents know that when they come into this building, they have the whole city of Edmonton against them.” In the wake of the pandemic, and after scaling back to 50 per cent capacity with no concessions during one of the recent lockdowns, there was some concern about whether or not people would be nervous about coming back to Rogers Place when all the restrictions were finally lifted. Two years ago, they had more wins on the road (20), than they had at home (17). And they had a far better record on the road (19-7-2) than at home (16-12-0) last season. “It’s something that we needed to improve on over the last couple of years,” said Leon Draisaitl. “So far this season, we have done that.

If “everything he does is in the sense to be playing for the Oilers one day” as Mondou put it, signing this contract is a big step toward that goal. If you ask his coach, Bourgault is already ready for the professional lifestyle, even if he has yet to suit up for the Oilers organization. Extending Jesse Puljujarvi should be Priority One for Oilers GM Ken ... (Edmonton Journal)

It was another night at the office for Edmonton Oilers' forward Jesse Puljujarvi on Wednesday night. In a crucial Pacific Division battle with Los Angeles…

That has changed for the better in recent times and a more focussed investigation of, say, the latter half of the season might show him in a better light. By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc. You may unsubscribe any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of our emails. Kane has a smaller number of regular linemates due to both his late arrival and the fact he has played almost exclusively with McDavid or Draisaitl (some 90% of his minutes with one or both) with little time spent on Line Three. Kailer Yamamoto is the most direct comparable to Puljujarvi. Both were born in 1998, were drafted in the first round one year apart, and are currently playing on an expiring bridge contract with identical; cap hits of $1.175 million. If so, that sea of red figures above is a concern for fans of Yamamoto, as they collectively suggest he’s been something of a drag on the results of his various linemates in 2021-22. On the season Puljujarvi has played some 473 minutes with McDavid. When the two are on the ice together the Oilers have had 60.4% of the shot attempts. Without further ado: Zach Hyman is the “control” element of our study, being locked up for 6 more years after this one and representing no decision at all for the club to make in the summer to come. To streamline this study we’ll dispense with the With and Without columns and simply post the net differential in each category. But across the board they have startlingly better numbers when Pulju is on the ice with them. Using the same four categories, let’s move on to WOWY (With Or Without You) stats which reveal how various teammates have done when paired with J. P. Again, all data as of the current date, gleaned from this page of NST. Let’s start with Corsi and High Danger Chances. We’ve included some extra columns of data here, the With and the Without, to show how the sausage is made. Then on the 3-1 goal, Puljujarvi’s well-timed arrival on the edge of the crease played a role as McDavid’s centring pass was batted into the net by LA’s Alex Iafollo. The own-goal was of course an error but a forced one with Puljujarvi’s stick poised and ready inches behind that of Iafollo. J. P. came oh-so-close to adding a goal of his own minutes later, first making a good pass on the cycle to McDavid in LA territory, then parking his big body on the edge of the crease and battling for position with Tobias Bjornfot as McDavid circled the net into the slot and fired a backhand shot that glanced off Pulju’s shin pad and into the net. The following 12 forwards have played at least 300 minutes at 5v5 for the Oilers so far in 2021-22: The table is sorted by the most important column, Goals For percentage at far right, where Puljujarvi is comfortably in front at 63.2%, based on 43 goals for, 25 against. Since his return from injury on Mar 17, he has rotated from the Draisaitl line to the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins line to the McDavid line, with each unit seemingly getting better when he lines up on its right wing and worse when he gets reassigned.

Preview: Blues at Oilers (BlueJackets.com)

The St. Louis Blues continue their road trip in Western Canada with a matchup against the Edmonton Oilers, their third and final meeting of the season.

O'Reilly's goal against the Canucks was his first in 41 career games vs. Edmonton looks to build their lead on Vegas for third place in the Pacific while also chasing down Los Angeles for second, with a record of 38-25-5 and 81 points as the seventh overall seed in the Western Conference. This balance of scoring is vital as the Blues gear up for the stretch run. After that low point, the Oilers were able to get back on track, immediately entering a six-game point streak as well as winning five in a row just after the All-Star break. The Blues took back third place in the Central Division standings on Wednesday night, moving to 83 points on the season and a record of 37-20-9. BLUES While the month of March carried some difficult stretches, the St. Louis Blues hope to have weathered the storm and are entering the final month of the season on a high note.

The Edmonton Oilers got a little business done this afternoon as they announced via their social media channels that the team has signed prospect, ...

While there’s no doubt that the AHL will be a significant test for the 6’0″ forward, I am very excited to see how he’s able to handle stiffer competition and pro-level goaltenders. He’s not an exceptional skater, but he will be able to skate at an NHL level, and has shown he can make skilled plays on the move and play with pace. And seeing as Bourgault is a late birthday, he’s been already been able to get four junior seasons under his belt before making the eventual jump to the pro game, which should only help to ease the transition to Bakersfield.
