Jim Carrey didn't hold back in an interview with "CBS Mornings," further saying Will Smith should be arrested and sued for the assault at the Oscars.
At the time, he notably left out Rock’s name, but he has since issued a formal apology. It cast a pall over everybody’s shining moment,” the “Liar Liar” star declared. “It was such a selfish moment that cast a pall over the whole thing.” “That insult is gonna last a very long time,” he continued. “I was sickened. Smith scooped the Best Actor Oscar for his role in “King Richard” just minutes after assaulting Rock, with the crowd getting out of their seats to cheer for the star.
If Carrey were in Chris Rock's position, he'd be “suing Will for $200 million,” the actor told CBS's Gayle King.
As the Academy begins formally reviewing the incident, with possible ramifications for Smith, the King Richard star issued an apology to Rock. “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.” If you want to yell from the audience and show disapproval or say something on Twitter…[but] you do not have the right to walk up onstage and smack somebody in the face because they said words.” It cast a pall over everybody’s shining moment…it was just a selfish moment.” Jim Carrey has lent his voice to the cacophony of takes, telling CBS’s Gayle King that he did not approve of the Oscars audience applauding Smith after his best-actor acceptance speech, which came less than an hour after Smith slapped Chris Rock. “I was sickened by the standing ovation,” Carrey added. “Hollywood is just spineless en masse, and it really felt like it was a clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore.”
"Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we aren't the cool club anymore," said Jim Carrey.
“We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore future action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law.” Smith walked onto the stage from his front-row seat and took a swing at Rock with an open palm, generating a loud smack. Smith walked back to his seat and shouted for Rock to leave Pinkett Smith alone. That same day, Smith issued an apology to the comedian, the Academy and viewers at home, saying on Instagram that he was “out of line” and that his actions are “not indicative of the man I want to be.” It’s going to be ubiquitous,” Carrey said. “The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show,” reads the statement.
In an interview with CBS Morning, Jim Carrey slammed Hollywood for cheering for Smith after he won the Academy Award for best actor.
And this isn’t his first time picking on Pinkett Smith. At the 2016 Oscars, during the #oscarssowhite controversy, Pinkett Smith decided to sit out in protest. “You do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face because they said words.” Hollywood is just spineless en masse, and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore.”
The "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" actor pulled no punches after Smith slapped Chris Rock at the awards ceremony.

During an interview with Gayle King, Jim Carrey shared his thoughts on Will Smith's "selfish" choice to slap Chris Rock for a joke the comedian made about ...
"This is a season for healing," she wrote, "and I'm here for it." "A lot of people worked really hard to get to that place and to have their moment in the sun and to get their award for the really hard work they did." The Academy said it "will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law." I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong." "My behavior at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable," Smith wrote in part. When King said the incident "escalated to that level," Carrey disagreed.
'I'd have announced this morning that I was suing for Will for $200m,' actor added.
