Montreal Canadiens vs. Florida Panthers Prediction, NHL Odds (Sports Interaction)

It is typically high-scoring hockey when these squads meet up, with the Over going 7-3 in the past 10 head-to-heads. The Panthers won six of those 10 games.

The Panthers have only covered once in their past seven contests but are still 34-31 ATS on the year. The night eventually went to a high-scoring shootout, where Montreal was outgunned 4-3 and lost the game 3-2. The Habs are 3-3-4 in their past ten games, a stretch that split the Over/Under 5-5. The season series will come to end on April 29th in Montreal. Just five days ago, Florida beat the Canadiens 4-3 in Montreal, to take a 2-0 season series lead. Montreal has lost seven of its last 10 games and is now the only team mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Call of the Wilde: Growing pains continue for Canadiens with 7-4 fall ... (Globalnews.ca)

It was another beautiful loss for Montreal — not beautiful in the score, but beautiful in that they are creating a new way to go about this.

She wanted him to not be dull and monotone like the previous regime would have suggested in interviews, but to be the entertaining person that he is. That was the nature of the organization at the time. The entire organization is rejuvenated under Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes. The freedom that everyone is feeling to do this a different way is refreshing. In this one, the Canadiens tried to go back and forth up the sheet against the fastest team in the league. Montreal does not have the guns yet to do that, and you could see it by the score of the contest. However, when it is the process that is the thing, the learning and the work is never done. And even better than that, he was right back on the ice for his next shift after the error that led to the goal. Like he did when he opened the scoring for the Canadiens. It’s clear that the game is fun again for him. Another strength of St. Louis is he seems to understand that to get the best of them, he needs to believe in them. The Canadiens weren’t really interested in the style of hockey he is good at. He rushes the puck up the ice. He was asked to play a safe, plodding style, focusing on banking the puck off the glass as soon as he got a chance to clear it.

Aaron Ekblad is among the top-scoring defencemen in the NHL with a team-record 57 point but he’s out with a knee injury suffered March 19 in Anaheim. He’s third in the NHL scoring race, seven points behind McDavid, and the Panthers have the second-best record in the NHL behind Colorado. There’s no shortage of 20-goal scorers on the Florida roster. The goaltender of the future in Florida is former Boston College standout Spencer Knight. He has a 13-9-4 record with a 2.94 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. Caufield, who has a three-game points streak, has 13 goals and 25 points in 21 games on St. Louis’s watch. In Allen’s last start, he made a career-high 49 saves Saturday as the Canadiens defeated the arch-rival Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3. The Panthers won 5-2 in Sunrise, Fla., on New Year’s Day but it was closer last Thursday when the Canadiens kept it close before losing 4-3.

Panthers survive — and hope to take lesson from — disastrous ... (Miami Herald)

With a three-goal lead in the second period, the Panthers gave up three goals in 1:42, but regrouped to beat the Canadiens in their newcomers' Florida ...

They got contributions from their stars — Huberdeau scored a game-tying, shorthanded goal with 3:43 left in the first perod for Florida’s first goal — and their fourth line. Left wing Ryan Lomberg, a feisty fan favorite, put the Panthers ahead 2-1 on a one-timer with 2:03 left in the first and gave them their 4-1 lead when he scored his second with 12:03 left in the second. The Panthers are the only team in the NHL averaging more than four goals per game and they scored their fourth Tuesday with 12:03 left in the second period. An awful two-minute stretch at the end of the second period, however, was enough to make for an uneasy second intermission and a competitive third period. It took only 1:42, however, for the Canadiens to tie the game and expose the defensive issues Florida still faces, even after the acquisitions of Chiarot and Hagg. They were up by three on the Montreal Canadiens with less than 25 minutes to go, and Andrew Brunette was already experimenting with different lineup combinations.
