Canucks: Betting odds and prediction vs. Avalanche (March 23rd) (The Canuck Way)

William Akers previews the Canucks upcoming matchup against the Colorado Avalanche by analyzing the betting odds and making a game prediction.

With the over hitting in both games, we’re backing it to hit again in another high-scoring game. Colorado are first in the Central Division by a whopping 17 points, and are very likely to claim the Presidents’ Trophy. Their 45-13-5 record puts them on pace to hit 123 points by the end of the campaign. Let us know your feelings down below in the comment section! Vancouver has been desperate for a while now whilst simultaneously playing poor teams and, despite this, are still finding different ways to let the fanbase down in back-breaking losses. Following three consecutive losses, two of which against sub-par teams, Vancouver’s playoff hopes have dampened with little time remaining in the season. This will be third and final meeting between Vancouver and Colorado this season, with the Avalanche winning both games earlier in the year by scores of 7-1 and 4-2.

Canucks 3, Avalanche 1: Halak proves a point as the forgotten backup (The Province)

Jaroslav Halak wasn't beaten until the 26th shot and backstopping a victory over the high-octane Avalanche was elating.

“I did sense a feeling of relief, especially from players who even acknowledged that fact — and we’ll see what that does. If we could shut them down, and not completely shut them down, but make it hard to win that we’d have a chance to win. “It’s always a good thing to get looks,” a hopeful Boeser said before puck drop. Conor Garland also denied on a wraparound in the second period to open scoring. It started early when Halak made a right-pad save off J.T. Compher. He was calm and square to the puck and there was no panic. “That’s the best game I’ve been a part of with this team,” said Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau. “Every one of them was committed and to play that team on even terms was pretty special. Canucks vs Avalanche Picks and Predictions: Boiling Hot Avs ... (Covers.com)

NHL odds, picks and predictions for Vancouver Canucks at Colorado Avalanche on March 23. NHL betting free picks for moneyline and Over/Under.

This is one of the streakiest teams in all of hockey but enters tonight’s matchup 1-4 SU in their last five. Neither offense is coming in real hot and Kuemper is in his best form of the season. Demko has been overused and this penalty kill could easily give up another three goals just like the previous meeting. Add in a penalty kill that has improved of late and is a perfect 18 for its last 18. The new Colorado defense is also gelling while the Canucks seem to be past their previous Over tear. it added Josh Manson to the blue line and arguably has the best six defensemen in any lineup. They haven't been running up the score lately either, as the Avalanche has scored more than three goals just three times over their last 11 games. He and the Canucks will have their hands full against an offense that is red-hot on the power play and has scored six times in its last 10 opportunities spanning four games. Are the Avs still the best home team in all of hockey despite dropping three of their past eight on home ice? The Avalanche dominated the previous meeting at home, 7-1, and chased Demko after two periods after scoring six goals on 26 shots. Demko is 4-5 SU in those nine games and has allowed three or more goals in seven of his outings. They have a .819 point percentage since January 1 which is tops in the league with a 28-5-3 record.

NHL Odds: Canucks vs. Avs prediction, odds, pick and more - 3/23 ... (ClutchPoints)

The Canucks take on the Avs on the road. It's time to continue our NHL odds series with a Canucks-Avalanche prediction and pick.

Against the Canucks, the Avs will continue to have their way. The last time the Canucks and Avs met, Colorado struck gold on the power play three times in five opportunities. For one, the Canucks have one of the worst – if not the worst – penalty kill in the NHL; Vancouver is only snuffing out opposing power-play attacks 71.35 percent of the time. Vancouver has looked and played like a better team since Bruce Boudreau took over the head-coaching duties for the team in December. And while they have floundered defensively of late, the Canucks remain to have a stout defense in the NHL. Despite their mediocre goal-production and middling possession numbers, the Canucks are a decent 13th in terms of PDO (100.1) this season, largely because of a 5-on-5 .933 SV% – second overall. With Miller still in Canucks thread, the team will look to stop the bleeding. The NHL trade deadline is over and despite all the rumors, JT Miller is still with the Canucks even though Vancouver is virtually out of playoff contention.
