While he explained that they needed to leave slots open for some college signings, the team has now worked out a future deal with one of those minor league players. Douglas is currently playing for the Toronto Marlies on an AHL contract.

The 22-year-old has spent a lot of his season on a line with the Marlies captain. Whether it’s on the fourth line or higher up in the lineup, Douglas is a very effective centre. Looking back to the beginning of the year, there was a need for Douglas to get better in that area. Whether or not anyone thinks it belongs in the game of hockey, dropping the gloves is one of the few ways players can light a spark for their team. If you’ve watched any of Douglas’ games, you’ll know that the 22-year-old will fight when needed. Being that big, the 22-year-old has a much longer reach than most hockey players, but also is a lot stronger.

But according to Barden, Douglas has improved his skating ability throughout the year. This year, playing for the Toronto Marlies, he has accumulated 76 penalty minutes. This year, Douglas has played on an AHL-only contract with the Toronto Marlies where he has scored a total of eight goals, 19 assists and 27 points in 49 games.
