At 6:57, Draisaitl scored on a rush to put Edmonton back ahead 3-2 with his 42nd goal of the season, second-most in the league. The last time a Stars goalie made 19 starts in 21 games was 2014-15 by Kari Lehtonen. They also lost for the first time after leading after one period (19-1-0) and completed a back-to-back after losing in overtime at Colorado on Monday. No quit in this man!

📺: @ESPNPlus "With this league, you can be in and out [of a playoff berth] every game," Seguin said. Kailer Yamamoto, Leon Draisaitl and Evander Kane scored for the Oilers, who are 21-1-0 when scoring first this season.

- Puljujarvi had a rebound game and thought he was impactful on the ice. That wasn’t all as the Oilers were able to find Shore bursting out of the penalty box who found Leon Draisaitl on an odd-man rush. Connor McDavid and Evander Kane combined on a rush to tie things right back up with Kane’s 14th of the year. It was actually quite a decent start for the Oil as they were starting to get back to there from before the Dallas goals. It was going a little too good it seems as Devin Shore took a lazy penalty to send Edmonton back to the PK. Oilers had to score at least once in the third if they wanted some points. The Edmonton Oilers dropped a 5-3 decision to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night. They wouldn’t be able to extend their lead but Brad Malone came close after the fact, wiring a snapshot off the crossbar. The first few shifts were almost exclusively in the Stars' end as the top two lines were finding ways to keep plays alive. Jesse Puljujarvi had another glorious chance for the Oilers on a 2-on-1 but his shot missed the net. Edmonton was the team with the early jump off the opening draw. He tipped a bomb from Evan Bouchard that beat Jake Oettinger. Oilers with the 1-0 lead.

With victory up for grabs, Oilers let two points slip away in 24 seconds (Sportsnet.ca)

The Edmonton Oilers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on Tuesday. The Dallas Stars scored twice in 24 seconds to pull off a come-from-behind 5-3 win.

“We’re disappointed that we didn’t walk out of here with points, but these are the types of games that we should expect as we head down the stretch.,” Woodcroft said. Edmonton lost an overtime game on Monday in Colorado that felt like a win, they played so well. You could argue, however, that this game was lost when Jesse Puljujarvi drew a penalty at 11:36 of the third, with Edmonton nursing a 3-2 lead. The Devin Shore line was on for one, the Connor McDavid line for another — so there’s plenty of blame to share as the Oilers missed a chance to get further ahead of the flagging Vegas Golden Knights, 4-0 losers in Winnipeg. We’ve got to be better in front of him, especially at the end of the game.” And they could have defended a 3-2 lead to the finish line, maybe popped an empty-netter for a two-goal win.

Oilers: 3 Roster Management Mistakes Made in 2021-22 (The Hockey Writers)

No general manager or coach is perfect and the Edmonton Oilers' season definitely hasn't been that either, but there have been a few mistakes or ...

As solid of a player as he has been, the cap that Ken Holland failed to have the Chicago Blackhawks retain has caused a bind for this season and next with key contracts coming up and Philip Broberg and Markus Niemelainen stepping up quicker than anticipated. There has seemingly been an opportunity to acquire a number of goaltenders this season as the goalie market wasn’t very active and not many moved at all. Trades and who plays on a daily basis is all in the hands of the management, whether it’s the general manager or the coach. The team was limited to depth moves due to the lack of cap space that Holland was somewhat responsible for. But while the Oilers had always stacked the top-six, the bottom-six suffered year after year and the lack of depth was always put into question and even taken advantage of in games. At least for this year, there is the worry about rushing Skinner to the NHL and throwing him in a situation to harm his confidence and all the work and patience the Oilers have had with him. It’s not the management’s fault that Nugent-Hopkins has been injured for a month on two separate occasions this season, but his utilization in the lineup is. Even though Mike Smith has been a disappointment overall from the standards he is held to from last season, he has had some bright spots for the Oilers and given a bit of hope since there were no moves made to acquire help in net. Just a few more starts here and there to take the pressure off of Koskinen in the starter role or Smith when he’s been playing badly could have helped the team as a whole. Skinner is now 13-3-4 with a .922 SV% in the AHL after posting a .913 SV% in the NHL in 12 starts this season. As many know, the Oilers have run with three goaltenders this season, Mikko Koskinen, Smith, and Stuart Skinner. Koskinen has taken the starter role for most of the season and ran with it, recording a great win/loss record despite posting questionable numbers overall. The third is the trades or lack thereof in upgrading the team, partly due to cap management and somewhat addressing the needs.
