Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens lose to Boston Bruins 3-2 in ... (Globalnews.ca)

Some of the darkest days in this franchise history were in January 2022. Yet only two months later, some of the biggest hopes in 20 years are on the horizon ...

They have their own which is going to be top five in a strong draft as they will get a strong NHL player and then they have Calgary’s first round pick in the Tyler Toffoli deal. Combine that with Alexander Romanov already showing his top four potential on a regular basis and this is the best the blue line has looked in prospects in a long time. Yet only two months later, some of the biggest hopes in 20 years are on the horizon. It’s important to own the ice at one level before you can own it at a higher level. The draft coming up in Montreal should be exciting. With today’s trades, the Canadiens have three first-round draft choices on defence waiting to be the leaders of tomorrow. As much as the players all know it is a business, they still feel the anxiety. You can see their joy on the bench celebrating winners as if they’re in the second round of the playoffs. He took the shot and it was a beauty into the top corner. The Bruins had to work for it. Perhaps it can be unsettling for a Montreal club on tenterhooks for the last 24 hours, wondering if their lives were going to be uprooted with a phone call saying that they had been traded. David Savard returned to the lineup and he jumped right into the new look offence by scoring a rare goal.

Talking Points: Marchand Redeems Himself, Bruins Beat Habs 3-2 ... (Boston Hockey Now)

Brad Marchand scored two goals, including the overtime winner and the Boston Bruins beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2.

To keep pushing the way he did after that turnover early in the third period shows why he’s one of the best leaders in the NHL and a Hart Trophy candidate. As Marchand admitted, he owes his teammate and Bruins defenseman Connor Clifton a nice dinner because Clifton bailed Marchand and the Bruins out by tying the game with 2:59 left in regulation to help force extra time. It’s Boston-Montreal; it’s the best rivalry in my estimation, in sports. I don’t care where the teams are in the standings, it’s always gonna be a game with lots of passion.” – Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy on him and the Bruins playing in Montreal for the first time since Nov. 26, 2019. Marchand’s first goal put the Boston Bruins up 1-0 9:21 into the first period before Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Savard scored his first of the season to tie the game at one just 1:28 later. Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand scored his second goal of the game 34 seconds into overtime to give the Bruins a 3-2 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre on Monday night.

Meet Your New Bruins: 2022 Trade Deadline Edition (The Hockey Writers)

The Boston Bruins added Hampus Lindholm and Josh Brown before the trade deadline. Here's what each player will bring to the team.

Yet, he was not brought in to be among the scoring leaders for the team. Yet, with how frequently injuries occur in this league, don’t be surprised to still see him on the ice often. Yet, whenever the 6-foot-5 defenseman is placed in the lineup, he will help change that years-long narrative. Furthermore, the team has needed another right-handed defenseman, as the quality drops off rapidly after Connor Clifton. Senyshyn, on the other hand, has had his trade request honored and will have the chance to play with his hometown club. Although nobody should doubt Lindholm’s skill level, it will be interesting to see if he is placed on the team’s top pair from the start. Yet, the 28-year-old has since signed an eight-year, $52 million contract extension, so he will be a part of the Bruins’ top four for a very long time. This aspect of his game is something that the team simply needed desperately. His 22 points on the year currently have him ranked second on the team among all defensemen, too. Lindholm will offer the Bruins far more stability on the backend. It’s important to note that Moore’s bad contract was the reason why an extra second-round pick was added to the deal. It’s always exciting when teams make acquisitions, so now feels like a perfect time to shine a light on the Bruins’ new guys. Although they were low in number, one expects they will carry immense importance not only for this season but for years to come.

Boston Bruins give left wing Jake DeBrusk, 'a big part of our team ... (ESPN)

Boston Bruins veteran forward Jake DeBrusk agreed a two-year, $8 million contract extension on Monday, hours before the NHL trade deadline, an abrupt change ...

"The impact he can have on a hockey club, I think we believe in," Sweeney said. "And staying healthy is a big part of that." The Bruins biggest question for the playoffs is the goaltending tandem of Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman, who have never started a playoff game. "We could have moved him prior to the deadline. We could revisit this in the summertime," Sweeney said. The bottom line is, he knows he's an important part and if he plays to his capability, he's going to help us out."

NHL trade deadline grades: Experts assess Bruins' deal for Hampus ... (NBC Sports Boston)

How did the Bruins fare in the Hampus Lindholm trade with the Ducks? Here's a roundup of expert grades for Boston's major move.

Dom Luszczyszyn, The Athletic: B- Lindholm is a very good defensive player but also has enough skating ability and playmaking skill to help drive offense at a decent rate. They acquired depth defenseman Josh Brown from the Ottawa Senators but didn't add any reinforcements up front.

Haggs: Boston Bruins Got What They Needed At Trade Deadline (Boston Hockey Now)

The Boston Bruins are markedly better post-deadline with Hampus Lindholm than they were leading up to it, and that's what matters.

Certainly, the Pittsburgh Penguins have to be feared and respected with Tristan Jarry in net while beating Boston to the punch for a helpful forward piece in Rakell. You walk through the door after you make it, and some guys are perked up. And ultimately, that’s where we’ve been the last few years, so we’ve tried to do that. The Bruins no longer grapple with scoring depth issues since slotting Hall and Pastrnak together, and since Trent Frederic, Charlie Coyle and Craig Smith formed a physical, hard-working third line capable of popping in goals as well. But several of our guys have really stepped up and played well and feel that we’re in a good spot overall with our hockey club.” We’ve knocked on the door and I want to knock again. It’s unclear whether Rakell and DeBrusk would have been swapped in the same deal, or if Sweeney was sitting on a DeBrusk deal contingent on acquiring Lindholm’s best buddy from the Ducks. “You have two goaltenders who are going to go through a stretch run in the playoffs for the first time. Sure, the Boston Bruins had to show Lindholm the money with a max term contract, but $6.5 million isn’t an overwhelming figure for a top pair defenseman. You’ve got a player in Hampus that is not just coming to impact our team now but moving forward…Josh [Brown] adds a physical presence and a size factor that I think everybody acknowledges that you’re gonna need as you go through the playoff stretch. We added to the back end to hopefully get through all of that. Just watching Brown pound 6-foot-7 Winnipeg defenseman Logan Stanley lets everybody know that the Bruins have somebody they can deploy if they anticipate some nastiness in any particular game down the stretch.

Sweeney, DeBrusk React Following NHL Trade Deadline (NHL.com)

Boston's GM says team is in good spot; winger shifts focus to winning Stanley Cup.

"I don't look at it as a negative situation," DeBrusk said of remaining with the Bruins. "Any time that you can play for a team that has a chance to win the Stanley Cup, that's a positive. There's not any urgency to rush through the healing process, and then we get a better feeling as to where he's going to go going forward." "That's his decision, he's the only one that can have a timeline on it. Today wasn't any different in terms of where teams thought he fit into their group and what they were trying to do," said Sweeney. "Some teams were down the road on other things and we'll pivot back maybe. Bottom line is he knows he's an important part if he plays to his capabilities, he's going to help us and help himself." "You have two goaltenders who are going to go through a stretch run in the playoffs for the first time. In a somewhat unexpected move, the Bruins announced on Monday morning that Jake DeBrusk had been signed to a two-year contract extension with an annual cap hit of $4 million. We hopefully added to the back end to hopefully get through all of that. Sweeney went on to say that the deadline pick-ups of Lindholm and Brown, in tandem with the offseason acquisitions of Erik Haula, Nick Foligno, Linus Ullmark, Tomas Nosek, and Derek Forbort, have made the Bruins a deeper club. But several of our guys have really stepped up and played well and feel that we're in a good spot overall with our hockey club." "We've knocked on the door and I want to knock again. It honestly does," said Sweeney. "You ask so much of the players in the organization and what they do, and you hope those two things align and the team is playing well.

In his first comments after the NHL trade deadline passed and he remained with the Boston Bruins, Jake DeBrusk said that it was nice to have some clarity.

It's all about winning the Stanley Cup at this point and I think anybody can get behind that." "I'll do anything I can to stay there and help the team win. I'm comfortable with these guys, I grew up with this team."

Jake DeBrusk signs two-year extension with Bruins, isn't traded by ... (Sportsnet.ca)

The Boston Bruins have signed forward Jake DeBrusk to a two-year contract extension with an average annual value of $4 million.

DeBrusk had made a trade request earlier this season and it was thought he might still be moved before Monday's deadline. Bruins general manager Don Sweeney confirmed back in November of 2021 that DeBrusk was looking to get moved as he struggled to carve out a consistent top-six role in Boston. DeBrusk was a pending restricted free agent and now by having him signed to a new deal, there is more cost certainty for a team looking to acquire the 25-year-old in the off-season. The Boston Bruins have signed forward Jake DeBrusk to a two-year contract extension with an average annual value of $4 million.

Alexander Romanov was called for tripping, giving the Bruins a power play in the final seconds of the second period. The Bruins broke the ice following a Canadiens turnover at 9:21 of the first period. “It’s a difficult day for the players but with my short experience as a coach I can say it’s a difficult day for the coach too,” St. Louis said. “I had to add a little extra on that one because that save so luckily we won.” “I was just really happy that we didn't lose because of that turnover,” Marchand said. Instead, he’s just happy that his Boston Bruins came back to win 3-2 in overtime against the Montreal Canadiens.
