Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux has been traded to the Florida Panthers, the team announced Saturday. The Flyers will receive forward Owen Tippett ...
Giroux may not be the scorer he once was, but his underlying metrics remain stellar, as he’s adapted his game into more of a balanced, two-way style as he’s aged. In the wake of his 1,000th game – which doubled as a not-so-stealth farewell-to-Philadelphia game – it became abundantly clear that Giroux was on the way out. Giroux was only willing to waive his no-movement clause to Florida.
The Panthers swung a big trade Saturday night, landing Claude Giroux from Philadelphia. Florida made a splash by acquiring Giroux along with Connor Bunnaman ...
Rubtsov, 23, has six points (2g, 4a) in 37 games for the Phantoms this season. The 22nd overall pick in 2016, Rubtsov is in his fourth full pro season having posted 29 points (10g, 19a) in 93 AHL games and appearing in four NHL games for the Flyers. The forward has also appeared in 61 KHL games with 11 points (3g, 8a) to show. Bunnaman, 23, has 11 points (6g, 5a) in 41 games for Lehigh Valley this season and has appeared in 15 games for Philadelphia. A fourth-round pick in 2016 by the Flyers, Bunnaman is in his fourth pro season and has logged 54 points (32g, 22a) in 147 AHL games and three points (1g, 2a) in 54 NHL games.
On Sunday afternoon, the Owen Tippett era of Philadelphia Flyers hockey officially came to South Broad. But who is the red-headed right shot from Ontario?
No, probably not, but frankly, he doesn’t have to be. Is that elite production? A player can be the face of a franchise one day, a performer being celebrated for his 1,000th game in the same, and the next day – literally – he can be in Florida with a younger yet still redheaded winger taking his place on the depth chart.
The Florida Panthers won the Claude Giroux trade sweepstakes, snatching in from the Flyers for a package highlighted by Owen Tippett.
Maybe this trade package is the best the Flyers could get for Giroux, yet it’s going to leave bad tastes in a lot of mouths. Also, Giroux is a rental, stripping another level of leverage. For all the Maple Leafs’ struggles, they’re a dangerous team (especially if they get better goaltending or trade for an upgrade). The Lightning amped up their three-peat by burning through first-rounders much like the Panthers. Don’t count out the Bruins, either, who aggressively added Hampus Lindholm. Literally no flaws to speak of, and with a handsome head of red hair to boot.pic.twitter.com/Kb5KS9SHSA Among other strengths, Giroux continues the pattern of the Panthers adding forwards who can plug into a variety of lineup situations. The Panthers already boast a historic offense.
Claude Giroux was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2006 and for the first time since that time, he will not be a member of the Flyers organization.
As always with a Barry Trotz coached team the Islanders will be physical and tough to play against on the back end. It will be interesting to watch the rest of the season and see who will step up the challenge and become the new face of the franchise. His ability to hold on to possession in tight quarters and patience when searching of the right pass combine to make him one of the most fun players to watch in the league. It is not certain where he will slot into the lineup but the former 10th overall pick will have all eyes in the Wells Fargo Center on him when he steps on the ice. Flyers fan and players alike will be looking for someone to step up and fill the huge void left in the lineup. Nonetheless, the Flyers will have to be much better today if they want any chance of coming away with a victory.
Tippett will wear #74 and be available to play for the Flyers in today's game. The young forward was of course the centerpiece coming back to Philadelphia in ...
Now with the Flyers, Tippett could expect not only more ice-time, but more opportunities to play with the Flyers’ best players, and potentially even appear regularly on the team’s powerplay. Tippett’s AHL production shows he may finally be fully acclimated to the professional game and ready for new challenges. The former 10th overall selection in 2017 has not necessarily failed at the NHL level, but he has not yet reached the expectations that lead to him being selected where he was.
The Philadelphia Flyers will hold Justin Braun out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the New York Islanders while Owen Tippett will make his debut.
He has the size and skating ability to drive the net, and he can score from distance. The 35-year-old is a pending unrestricted free agent and has a $1.8 million cap hit. Newly acquired Owen Tippett is also set to make his debut for the Flyers playing on a line with Morgan Frost and Oskar Lindblom.
