A game versus a Flyers team that has just three wins since the All-Star break is a good chance to get the Habs back to their winning ways (while still staying in last place in the standings). Montreal Canadiens projected lineup. Forwards ...

In an attempt to break out of the Flyers’ zone, Frost tried to get a pass off to Joel Farabee, but the puck hit Farabee in the skates. With center Scott Laughton out indefinitely after sustaining a concussion against the Panthers on Thursday, the Flyers called up Frost from the Phantoms to replace him. But defensively, Sanheim struggled when the Flyers found themselves on their heels on the power play with less than a minute remaining in the third period. For the majority of their previous two games, losses to the Florida Panthers and the Carolina Hurricanes, the Flyers found themselves defending too frequently. Winger James van Riemsdyk entered the offensive zone with the puck, then patiently held it, putting a perfect pass on Sanheim’s tape as the defenseman drove to the net. It wasn’t enough though, as the Flyers yet again found a way to lose.
Since joining the Flyers from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, York has helped the power play score in each of the last two games.
Yeo doesn’t have a timeline but said Laughton was feeling better when he talked to him Saturday. ... The lines shifted yet again, this time significantly. Yeo recalled they like to throw pucks at the net, and he said he’s recently been impressed with their forecheck. The last game against Montreal lingers sourly in the Flyers’ minds. It’s not like we’re going to change every power play, but at the same time, we have to provide results.” But to add York to the power play, someone had to come off the unit. “I think it’s got to be real fluid,” Yeo said.
Interim head coach Mike Yeo's Philadelphia Flyers (18-30-10) will host interim head coach Martin St. Louis' Montreal Canadiens (15-35-8) at the Wells Fargo ...
The Habs are the NHL's lowest-scoring team (ranked 32nd at 2.43 goals scored per game) and the team with the league's highest goals against average (3.79 ranked 32nd). The Flyers come in ranked 31st offensively at 2.50 goals scored per game. The pint-sized Caufield has scored seven goals and added eight assists for 15 points in his last 13 games. Flyers center Derick Brassard has started to settle back in now that he's been able to string some healthy games together following a series of lengthy absences from the lineup due to a nagging hip issue. Likewise, both teams have struggled at 5-on-5 (97 GA/ 133 GA for Montreal, 105 GF/ 125 GA for the Flyers) and on special teams. Dating back to Feb. 9, the Flyers are 3-8-2 over the last 13 games. Flyers goaltender Carter Hart was every bit as strong in net on Thursday in Florida as he was two nights earlier in making a career-record 47 saves in a 2-1 home win against Vegas. Hart's stat line in Florida (5 GA on 36 shots including four goals against on 19 shots in the first period) might have looked ugly but his actual play was very strong. In the meantime, Hart's net was under siege in the first period in particular and the score easily could have been 7-0 or 8-0 if not for strong saves made by the goalie. On Sunday, Flyers captain Claude Giroux will dress in the 999th regular season game of his NHL career. On Saturday afternoon, the Flyers sustained a 3-1 road loss to the Carolina Hurricanes after the game had been up for grabs (tied 1-1) entering the final four minutes of regulation. In the meantime, Giroux can achieve two other milestones in Sunday's game against Montreal. He is one point away from 900 in his regular season career. In overtime, the Flyers were unable to capitalize on a full two-minute 4-on-3 power play. On Dec. 16 in Montreal, the Flyers dropped a 3-2 (1-0) decision via shootout despite 38 saves from Carter Hart. The Flyers trailed 1-0 after the first period on an Artturi Lehkonen tally.

Carter Hart will return to the pipes following a valiant effort in a losing cause from Martin Jones — hello, goaltender-needy teams — in the loss to the Canes.
Scoring and saves have been hard for the Canadiens to come by with Nick Suzuki providing 41 points and the next closest scorer being Artturi Lehkonen with just 28 in 55 games. They’ve used five goaltenders — the Flyers’ eight from 2018-19 would like a word — to a team save percentage comfortably under .900. In No. 999 for Giroux, he’ll try and build upon the success he’s enjoyed in his career against the Canadiens with 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) in 37 games.

Farabee took a hard hit from Wideman with a minute left. We’re just finding ways to lose right now.” The Canadiens actually were skating 5-on-5 during the tally after pulling their goalie. Cam Atkinson and Kevin Hayes also scored.

The Flyers had some good chances in the third but couldn’t finish and weren’t able to have any sustained zone time. I always feel that a team that is playing the second game of a back-to-back has more jump at the beginning of the game and then wear out in the late stages. Montreal went back to the power play for the fourth time in the game after a Derick Brassard hooking penalty. Another Montreal turnover led to a Cam Atkinson goal, thanks to a nice play made by Joel Farabee giving the Flyers a 3-2 lead. They were more energetic and were able to force a lot of giveaways which was the biggest difference in the period. Montreal had a chance to even things up after Justin Braun took a holding penalty, but they could not get anything going and the Flyers remained on top.
The Flyers are back home as they welcome in a Montreal Canadiens team who have played better under new head coach Martin St. Louis.
Though they have just hired hockey legend Martin St. Louis, who was born and raised not too far away from Montreal, in attempts to spark something new into their club, the Canadiens are still the worst team in the league. Philadelphia losing Laughton with the kind-of season he has been having is a major loss to the club. They have also lost one of their most consistent players in Scott Laughton who is now out indefinitely after suffering a concussion in last Thursday’s 6-3 loss to the Florida Panthers. Laughton took a clean hip check from Florida’s Petteri Lindbohm and was awkwardly sent head-first into the boards as a result of the hard impact from the hit.
