J.K. Rowling Opposes Gender Recognition Reform in Scotland (Hollywood Reporter)

Harry Potter writer J.K. Rowling opposes a Scottish bill to make it easier for trans people to secure legal recognition of their acquired gender.

The bill, if passed, would allow trans people to make a legally binding declaration that they will live permanently as their acquired gender and no longer have to offer medical records or other evidence of a transition. #HappyInternationalWomensDay,” Rowling said on her Twitter account, before adding in another tweet: “Apparently, under a Labour government, today will become We Who Must Not Be Named Day.” The Scottish legislation aims to simplify how trans people apply for legal recognition.

Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling slammed Scotland's new gender bill on Twitter, arguing it “will harm the most vulnerable women in society.

Then Tubbs adds that if she goes to prison, she’s getting a sex change surgery to go into the women's facility. Many argued Tubbs's light sentence of only 2 years in a juvenile detention facility, and her resulting adulation, was the result of poor policymaking from Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon. "So when you come to court, make sure you address me as her."

Thank You, Tinashe, For Telling J.K. Rowling What We're All Thinking (Jezebel)

I should have known this was coming on International Women's Day: A day with the word “women” in the title is like catnip for TERFs!

J.K. Rowling, from one woman to another woman on this International Women’s Day: please shut the fuck up. Rowling holds an outdated and transphobic belief that trans women invalidate the experience of cis-women. We’ve long seen how Rowling has taken it upon herself to be the one of the most visibly transphobic people outside the Murdoch universe.

J.K. Rowling Criticizes Reform Bill That Makes It Easier for Trans ... (Variety)

J.K. Rowling and Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon are in a public disagreement over the country's Gender Recognition Reform Bill.

Sturgeon and Rowling’s public disagreement over the Gender Recognition Reform Bill is taking place a month ahead of the release of “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” the latest “Harry Potter” sequel in which Rowling serves as co-writer and co-producer. Rowling continued to oppose the reform bill in a March 7 Twitter post, writing, “Multiple women’s groups have presented well-sourced evidence to Nicola Sturgeon’s government about the likely negative consequences of this legislation for women and girls, especially the most vulnerable. Several “Harry Potter” stars have spoken out against Rowling for her beliefs, including Daniel Radcliffe. The actor wrote a letter that “transgender women are women…Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.” If the legislation is passed and those consequences ensue as a result, the SNP government can’t pretend it wasn’t warned.” The reform bill no longer mandates medical evidence of gender dysphoria and lowers the age requirement to 16. The certificate allows a trans person to receive a new birth certificate with their correct gender.
