Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Vancouver Canucks – Game #55 Preview ... (Maple Leafs Hot Stove)

Preview, analysis, quotes & TV info for the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Vancouver Canucks game on March 5th at Scotiabank Arena.

That is the beauty of the game. A couple of the goals we gave up were recurring themes and things we have been talking about continuing to get better at. There are a lot more things that happen in a game that impact winning, and we need John to lead the way there. The number of looks and shots he has had is not way off of where he has been throughout his career. We are fortunate that we get to celebrate with him. There was the competitiveness to get the puck back, and then he made a highly-skilled play. It is an opportunity for him to come out here in front of our fans. It is just a matter of continuing to evaluate for a young guy like him coming off of a bad injury. I think we have had that sense through this, but I think he is over that now. That would be the game that makes up for the Devils game, type of thing. And holding up his end of the bargain competitively and defensively. Sandin also had himself a rough showing on Wednesday next to Rielly in what is a pretty clear sign the Leafs need an additional experienced option for top-four responsibilities, preferably on the right side, with Jake Muzzin’s status up in the air.

Canucks rally with big third period to beat Maple Leafs 6-4 (ESPN)

The Canucks overcame another big game by Auston Matthews, who scored two goals to give him an NHL-leading 39 this season. John Tavares had a goal and an assist, and Nick Robertson also scored for the Leafs, who got 23 stops from Jack Campbell. “Confidence ...

Toronto responded just over two minutes later when the Maple Leafs power play, which had gone seven contests without scoring, took advantage of a bad decision by Hamonic in the neutral zone that led to a 3-on-1. Vancouver then took the lead at 6:55 on a broken play during which Mitch Marner lost his stick in Toronto's zone. Miller extended his point streak to nine games. We know what type of team we are, and what type of team we have to be.” ... Marner’s point streak stands at six games. “It’s disappointing not getting the win when we played so well. The Canucks overcame another big game by Auston Matthews, who scored two goals to give him an NHL-leading 39 this season. Hamonic’s point shot late in the first went in off Leafs defenseman T.J. Brodie for the Vancouver blue-liner’s second to give the Canucks a 2-1 lead. You don’t want to be in that position, but you’ve got to embrace it.” Matthews, who attempted a Michigan lacrosse-style move earlier in the period, scored his second of the night on another one-timer that went off Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes and past a stick-less Demko at 12:06 to make it 4-3 through 40 minutes. Toronto responded 1:21 later when Robertson — elevated to the second line in his fourth game since being recalled from the AHL — took a pass from Nylander and fired his first regular-season goal past Demko. “We’re confident in our ability.

Canucks' commitment and resiliency shine in comeback win over ... (Sportsnet.ca)

And that play that you talked about was, to me, the play of the game. Asked about the depth of scoring – 13 players had goals -- during the Canucks' four road games, Boudreau veered into a soliloquy about the balance of the Stanley Cup-winning Boston Bruins in 2011 and how if he could ever build a team, they would be his template. It’s probably better to avoid effusively praising the Bruins to a Vancouver audience. It was only last Monday when Boudreau found the Canucks’ start “shocking” in a 7-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Players, including Miller, Pettersson and captain Bo Horvat, have all pledged greater consistency and more acute focus. They had lost 12 straight road games to the Maple Leafs since then. The biggest issue the Canucks have had the last three weeks is consistency. “We get the next seven games at home,” Boudreau said. “It has been a long time coming,” Horvat, who is from London, said. Vancouver has gone from seven games under .500, to five games over .500. And, starting Wednesday, the Canucks have a season-long, seven-game homestand that includes contests against four teams firmly out of the playoff race. The best thing I liked was the bench and how happy they were and everybody jumping up. The Canucks had six different goal scorers. Winger Alex Chiasson was awarded Saturday the gaudy wrestling belt coach Bruce Boudreau has introduced for his in-house player of the game.

Gameday Preview: Canucks vs. Maple Leafs (March 5th) (The Canuck Way)

The Vancouver Canucks look to head home with two more points on the road if they can close out their last game of the season against Toronto with a win.

Vancouver will have to be pesky in front of the net and jump on rebounds. The Maple Leafs have the best powerplay in the league, operating at 29% in comparison to the Canucks 21%, who have shown no lack of discipline. Giving Toronto any opportunity with the extra man will spell trouble. Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe has played backup Petr Mrazek in their last two outings, including their latest 5-1 loss against the Buffalo Sabers. If everything works to plan, Vancouver will find themselves two points back in the Western Conference wild card race. Hometowner Bruce Boudreau will hope to turn the tides once more for his underdog squad.

The Leafs' power play, which had gone seven contests without scoring, took advantage of a bad decision by Hamonic in the neutral zone that led to a 3-on-1. "The Leafs want to exchange chances because they're so good offensively," Boudreau said of his team's second period. Horvat threw a puck in front that the Leafs winger tried to kick away with his skate only to have it drop for Chiasson to snap his sixth past Campbell. Auston Matthews replied with his 38th and 39th goals of the season for Toronto (35-16-4) to retake the NHL lead. "I'm trying to chill out a little bit about dissecting my game." "Every game feels like a do or die for us.

He’s become an effective two-way player, but when the mistakes are showing up on the highlight reel, that’s what sticks in peoples’ minds, unfortunately. And then there was Boeser’s bizarre turnover to Matthews in the second. He’s our leader offensively and he’s our leader as a spokesperson. It’s his second nine-game point streak on the season. Boeser’s goal was a demonstration why. Article content “I’ve used the phrase, you’ve got to make hay when the sun shines,” Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau said post-game. The Canucks now have seven straight games at home. Article content The teams traded scoring chances all night and neither team’s goalie showed their best, though in Toronto goalie Jack Campbell’s case, that’s been an issue for a while: this was the ninth time in 15 appearances he’s given up four goals or more.
