"Maybe they're not quite good enough, but some nights (we're) just have a hard time getting it in the bucket and tonight was one of those." The veteran forward, who was acquired by Toronto at the trade deadline, had two points and seven rebounds in 15 minutes of action coming off the bench. Instead they took Barnes, who was named the Eastern Conference rookie of the month for February. "Just figuring out what they were doing on defence," said Flynn of the success he was finding. All-star guard VanVleet and forward OG Anunoby missed their fourth and sixth games, respectively. Trent went 0-for-9 on three-point attempts.

5 things: Raptors lose back-to-back games at home to East tankers (Sportsnet.ca)

Here are five takeaways from the Toronto Raptors' 103-97 loss to the Orlando Magic on Thursday.

The difference in the fourth was Flynn's willingness to drive into the paint, which forced the Magic into rotations which created gaps for his teammates to attack. Very little of it worked in the game, save for a few hustle plays from Watanabe in the fourth, although he gave those back with a few dispiriting mistakes. That leaves the remainder of the team at 8-for-25 on layups, which is simply pathetic. Nick Nurse pulled Trent Jr. shortly after and benched him for the game. One -- The Raptors are playing their worst basketball of the season since returning from the All-Star break. The Raptors should be climbing in the standings, but have instead squandered the softest part of their schedule before heading out west for a difficult six-game road trip.

Orlando Magic at Toronto Raptors (March 4, 2022): 3 Things To ... (Orlando Magic Daily)

The Orlando Magic hit the road for a back-to-back as they take on the struggling Toronto Raptors in a makeup game from a postponed game earlier this year.

The Toronto Raptors, in the meantime, like to play at a slower pace. The Magic still turn to him late in games. The Magic are 20th in the league with 10.7 fast-break points per game this year. Markelle Fultz’s return has put the Orlando Magic’s point guard future in a bit of focus. The team is 10th in the league in pace and is flirting with playing at 100 possessions per 48 minutes. As Cole Anthony said about the Houston Rockets, the Orlando Magic might owe the Toronto Raptors one for a missed shot at the buzzer. But in their last 15 games, they are 10th in the league at 13.7 fast-break points per game. Toronto is still a really strong defensive team though and that will make this an interesting battle of styles, even with the Raptors playing without OG Anunoby. The Magic should be trying to develop an identity and figure out what they need to do to win. Now how will they respond to Wednesday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers when they lost a 15-point lead to start the fourth quarter at home? They have just three wins in their last eight games, including a 108-106 loss to the Detroit Pistons last night. The Orlando Magic have not had the chance to lead deep into the fourth quarter much this season.

Offensive Woes Continue for Raptors & Other Takeaways from ... (CalBearsMaven)

The Toronto Raptors couldn't get anything going offensively against the Orlando Magic in another embarrassing loss without Fred VanVleet and OG Anunoby.

He nailed a pair of fourth-quarter three-pointers, scoring 12 of his 20 points in the final frame, to go with a pair of big assists to Siakam and Barnes that pulled seven with just over two minutes to go. After a solid start to the season for Khem Birch, things have gone sideways in a hurry. He's missing his go-to floaters at a concerning rate and his lack of mobility is costing Toronto defensively where the Raptors are 5.1 points per 100 possessions better with him off the court. Like we were running deep in the shot clock and didn't have anywhere to go." Even as the Raptors have struggled to provide him with any floor spacing, the 27-year-old has found a way to create for himself, getting deep in the paint and taking advantage of mismatches. His biggest mistake late was passing up an open three-pointer to make the extra pass to Barnes whose three-pointer couldn't find the bucket. The Raptors are taking a cautious approach with Fred VanVleet and OG Anunoby. They want the two to be as close to 100% healthy before they take the court again this season. Even when the Raptors created an advantage with Pascal Siakam or Scottie Barnes getting deep in the paint, the forwards on the perimeter couldn't convert. Siakam has been one of Toronto's few bright spots over the past couple of games. "I thought we missed a ton of opportunities at the basket, too, and it wasn't like there wasn't shot opportunities out there. I thought he showed some good composure," Nurse said of Siakam's 13-for-20 outing. The Toronto Raptors can't seem to get anything going offensively these days.
