First to cross the finish line!

Arun and Natalia Kumar were among the final four teams competing for the $1 million grand prize on the 33rd season of the hit show.

You applied to the race without letting me know?'" said Arun told The Detroit News before the season premiere in early January. "...Natalia and me have been watching 'The Amazing Race' from episode one. They finished last on two other legs, but were allowed to keep racing because they were non-elimination legs of the race. Natalia, who got married during the long pit stop from filming, actually applied to compete on the show with her now husband. On Wednesday, the four final teams started off in Portugal. Arun and Natalia slipped to last when a rowing challenge also required identifying a Portuguese explorer. Arun of Sterling Heights and Natalia of Canton Township finished fourth on Wednesday's season finale of the Emmy-winning reality show's 33rd season. Even with their fourth place finish, Arun, a co-owner of four Dunkin' franchises in Metro Detroit, and Natalia, a design lead at Ford Motor Company, said they were grateful for their experience together.

So, that’s a lifestyle change to have that taken care of.” “I would say that it was never lost on us that this was an incredible privilege,” Kim Holderness said. “Even though we finished first, which is kind of awesome.” “Everybody had kind of a cheering section, so when one person would do really well, you know, they’d start cheering,” Kim Holderness said. “That’s how we won $1 million dollars.” “That is going to change not just our lives, because we’re not going to have that burden” Kim Holderness said. But Wednesday’s two-hour finale was still a nail-biter, coming down to the wire. That’s how we won,” he said. Did Amazing Race 33's winners make history, break a streak, or ... (reality blurred)

While Raquel and Cayla were ahead for most of the final leg, they did not become just the fourth (!) female team in The Amazing Race's 33-season history to win ...

I would have loved to see them have to choose the actual objects, but I suppose that would have made it much harder to judge whether they were doing it correctly or not, and having a subjective task in the final leg is not my favorite choice. Alas, they didn’t appear to be as strategic about making changes every time they got a fault (ha!), and Kim and Penn heard “game, set, match!” first, and won the $1 million. “I can’t see all the way down there,” Penn said, and I felt for them: even in HD, it was hard to see those columns at the end. Even with some very thin legs, it felt to me like a throwback to earlier seasons, especially with the post-restart season not having any U-Turns or Yields. Penn got creative: “I’m going to turn this into a running challenge,” and ran to the monk to just keep giving numbers until he landed on the right one. They began the race strong, but placed third for five of the final six legs, and were in fourth place that other leg. Before the second Roadblock, teams had to work together to paint a sardine can image on a door. The first Roadblock, choosing a rowboat with a Portuguese explorer’s name on it and then rowing across a marina, was a good combination of brains and brawn—though luck helped too, as Kim just “picked the prettiest boat” and happened to be right. The two tasks in Los Angeles involved both team members. Yikes. They did ask strangers to map routes for them, though. “Internet Personalities” Kim and Penn were very strong throughout the race, and finished third or higher from episode three on. Kim told us she took meticulous notes and drew pictures after each leg—and the final race-recap task was matching photos to descriptions of things they’d done.
