But it was when the mention of veterans and providing support for victims of burn pits, a normally bipartisan topic, that Boebert stood to make her case about what many in the GOP see as Biden's failed withdrawal of U.S. troops in Afghanistan last summer. The comment drew an outpouring of boos from Democrats, adding a note of division to an address that received several moments of robust bipartisan applause. Members stood together as Biden called for an end to the opioid epidemic and when he declared that "defund the police" is not the answer to the crisis between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

State of the Union: Biden vows to support Ukraine, tame rising ... (Globalnews.ca)

Biden's speech has taken on new significance with last week's Russian invasion of Ukraine and nuclear saber-rattling by Vladimir Putin.

He called to “fund the police with the resources and training they need to protect our communities.” And as gun violence rises, he returned to calls to ban assault weapons, a blunt request he hadn’t made in months. In an interview with CNN and Reuters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Biden to deliver a strong and “useful” message about Russia’s invasion. “It’s time for Americans to get back to work and fill our great downtowns again,” he declared. He was said his climate change proposals would cut costs for lower- and middle-income families and create new jobs. “Too many families are struggling to keep up with the bills,” Biden said. And, the costs and threats to America and the world keep rising.” He warned of costs to the American economy, as well, but warned ominously that without consequences, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression wouldn’t be contained to Ukraine. But it has taken on new significance with last week’s Russian invasion of Ukraine and nuclear saber-rattling by Putin. But the Capitol was newly fenced due to security concerns after last year’s insurrection. “Inflation is robbing them of the gains they might otherwise feel. He must marshal allied resolve against Russia’s aggression while tending to inflation, COVID-19 fatigue and sagging approval ratings heading into the midterm elections.

In an interview with CNN and Reuters, Ukraine President President Volodymyr Zelensky said he urged Biden to deliver a strong and "useful" message about Russia's invasion. That’s why it’s so important to pass the Bipartisan Innovation Act. It will make record investments in emerging technologies, American manufacturing, and innovation.

Send it to my desk. The practice, a holdover from the Cold War, took on new significance in light of Putin's threats. He also said the Justice Department was launching a task force to go after the "ill-gotten gains" of Russian oligarchs, including their yachts, luxury apartments and private jets. And, the costs and threats to America and the world keep rising." We need to level the playing field with China and other competitors. "Inflation is robbing them of the gains they might otherwise feel. "Too many families are struggling to keep up with the bills," Biden said. He will never weaken the resolve of the free world." He said that there would be costs to the American economy as well, but gave the ominous warning that without consequences, Russian President Vladimir Putin's aggression wouldn't be contained to Ukraine. Biden declared that he and all members of Congress, whatever political differences there may be, were joined "with an unwavering resolve that freedom will always triumph over tyranny." Biden argued Tuesday that things in the country are improving—and in many respects, including on the pandemic, he’s right. But he also scaled back that agenda and broke it into smaller chunks that, in theory, stand a better chance of winning the approval of the most conservative Democrats in his party. But the president’s first State of the Union address was doomed from the start by the very dysfunction it was designed to address. “We, the United States of America, stand with the Ukrainian people.” It was the most unity the joint session of Congress would show all night, with several lawmakers wearing the colors of the Ukrainian flag in solidarity and members of both parties standing in applause as Biden vowed to stand against Vladimir Putin and Kremlin aggression. Joe Biden gave a fine speech Tuesday evening, delivering a lot of nice lines in service of unity and political pragmatism to a divided Congress that has frustrated his agenda over and over again.
